Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White Review

Cuisinart DCC-100 Coffee Bar Classic 10-Cup Coffeemaker, White
Average Reviews:

We were generally happy with the Cuisinart DCC-100-- while it lasted. A few months ago it started working intermittently. It wouldn't always brew the coffee. Finally it stopped working altogether. The hot plate was not very warm, and it looked as though the problem might be the thermostat. So we took the coffeemaker apart. There appear to be two coils--a high power unit for brewing the coffee, and a lower power coil for keeping it warm. A thermostat in a round white ceramic package monitors the temperature. It was open, even at room temperature, so the high power coil never went on. Took it apart. Found a very brittle plastic ring, and very corroded contacts. Opinion-- the thermostat is of poor quality. The contact materials appear to be of poor quality, very pitted, unable to sustain extended use. The brown plastic ring that actuates the contacts appears to be made of a material that cannot sustain the heat. This is based on a sample of just one unit, but my recommendation is to stay clear of this unit unless/until Cuisanart finds a new thermostat vendor and publicizes that action.

15' x 36" Easy Set Above Ground Swimming Pool Review

15' x 36' Easy Set Above Ground Swimming Pool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You can't get more for your money than one of these pools, period. If it lasts 2 or 3 seasons so what. I replaced an Aqua Leasure after 2 or 3 with an Intex 15X42. Both worked very well. The sides of the Intex are a little more upright so you have more usable area inside the pool which I like. This makes the sides a little less stable but even with 9 year olds jumping over the sides you don't lose any or hardly any water unless they a couple of them lay on the upper air ring and try to push it down. The Intex and Aqua are both very sensitive to level ground. Mine is on the patio concrete which slopes away from the house for rain run off purposes. Even this causes considerable uneveness in the water level. I added some carpet pieces to the "low side" just under the outside edge. Helped a little I think. Again, so what. Water is full on one side a few inches low on the other. No one but me even notice. But don't try to set up on more slope than I'm discribing. Filter works fine. Skimmer pole is very sturdy. Ladder works fine and does not rust for some reason like the Aqua Leisure did. I use clorine strips to test water. Just dip and read. Very easy. Be sure to keep clorine level up. I added clorine after tester showed white or none. Wrong, add before clorine goes to zero level or you will get dark emerald green swamp water as a surprise one day. Triple clorine or so solved problem. Leslie pools were very helpful and refused to sell me more expensive fix I was demanding."Just try the extra clorine first, sir". Intex comes with nice cover too. Helps keep pool clean, but if dirty you can do two things. Put garden hose in pool with a weight on the end and run water to fill the hose. Turn off and remove from hose bib and take quickly to lower ground setting up a siphon. Get in pool and "vacume" up the dirt with slow even strokes. On a hot day, if you like to keep a clean pool, very pleasurable job. Oh, before the vacume get in and run around the pool creating a spinning vortex or what ever you call it. In 30 minutes or more the dirt will consentrate on ridges in the bottom. (hard not to have some)
Setup is of course much longer than the 15 minutes or so advertized. The reason is because it is a little hard to spread the pool out evenly. The warmer the weather the better to soften the plastic. And once you get a inch of wate in the pool it becomes VERY heavy and hard to change. Use the plastic tarp for sure so you don't slide the pool on concrete or something abrasive. Infact try not to slide the pool at all. Lift and fold instead. I had to move the pool once this year (Wifes idea)folded and placed on piano mover (lowboy with casters). Left in the sun and when I went to move it, sides had fallen down and were scraping on concrete for about 10 ft of travel. Yup, three holes.(Wifes fault) Used the hole patch stuff from the inside and no leaks. Here in southern Cal I keep it up for maybe 4 month per year. After that kids don't seem to use it and water is not near as warm. My child loves it, neighbors love it. Neighbor put in pool so it got lots less use this season but they still come over to both houses. I paid $210 at Leslies Pools in Fontana CA location (big selection)Have seen them less and 50% higher other places. These are real pools by the way. You'll want to spend a little time with them cleaning and checking clorine, using filter etc. But after 4 months my pool is in the garage waiting for next year and there "real" pool is in need of a pool boy all year with all the other costs. Ok, their pool looks nicer with all that concrete and faux rock and plants and lighting. But for $200 bucks this pool is a deal. If I have the time I'll try to upload some video later.

Intex Easy Set 15-Foot-by-42-Inch Round Pool Set Review

Intex Easy Set 15-Foot-by-42 inch Round Pool Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this pool last year for my family. It might only take 15 minutes to set up if you have help...it took more than 15 minutes just to get the ground cloth the way I wanted it. Your ground MUST, MUST, MUST be level. If it's off more than 1 inch you're in trouble. Don't try filling it higher than the instructions say or you'll have one of your children going over the top (which they loved and asked if they could do again, I said no) with 100 gallons of water or so. The instructions say to run the filter for something like 5-6 hours per day. No, you need to run the filter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Forget the little floating Chlorine tablet thing.Go buy the small 1 inch chlorine tablets and fill the center of the filter after it's in the pump container with the tablet. Refill every 2-3 weeks when you change or clean the filter. You can take the filter out and clean it with the hose and/or soap and water/hose instead of putting out $7.00 every 3 weeks for a new filter. I've learned all this by doing it the wrong way and then talking with the pool guys and learning the right way. But after it's all set up and going it's so much fun, even for the adults. You just have to be committed to keeping it going. And you save water by not having to dump it out every few days.

Intex Wet Set 15 ft x 42 in Frame Set Pool Review

Intex Wet Set 15 ft x 42 in Frame Set Pool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this pool last Memorial Day (2006) and have left it up all winter (fortunately we really don't have winter near Houston though) and it has been great. It took almost two weeks to get the chemicals/levels of the water correct and since then it has been clear with very little maintenance. We leave the pump running pretty much all the time and keep a chlorine floater in all the time and other than cleaning the filter and replacing it every few months and occasional vacuuming that's it! MUCH better than an inflatable ring pool (we had one the year before and took it down and gave it away), definitely worth a few more $.We shopped and shopped and haven't regretted this purchase at all. It's that time of year that I started shopping every year before for an inexpensive pool so hope this helps anyone looking.

Intex Easy Set Pool with Filter 12' x 36" 56931EG Review

Intex Easy Set Pool with Filter 12' x 36' 56931EG
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this pool from another source this summer.I should note that the 12'x36" pool does not come with all the accessories that the 12'x3' pool has.If you see both available when you buy, whether online or at your local warehouse store, be sure to get the one listed at 3 feet!It includes several things not in the 36" box such as a ladder, cover, and a couple of tools (skimming net and an attachment to clean the bottom of the pool).
We have been extremely pleased with the pool. Our yard is not *perfectly* flat, so there is a 2" variance after the water is in the pool. That said, it does not impact the fun the kids are having. As with any huge amount of water, you must take extra care to keep it clean.Invest in the proper chemicals and a testing kit and run the pump each day for a minimum of four hours.
My children are quite young, so this is the ideal size to teach them how to swim.My younger child (2) can stand in the water and it is only chest height on her (water height is about 27").I don't think it would hold much allure for a child over the age of ten.Be prepared to be in the pool with the kids a lot if they are young.Luckily with the ladder that it isn't much of an issue.
Frankly for the price, if it only lasts two years I will think we got a steal.I would recommend this to anyone who wants a pool that is good for younger kids and wants a pool that can be taken down once the summer is over.Happy swimming!

BUNN NHBX-W Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White Review

BUNN NHBX-W Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir. With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.

Black & Decker SDC850 SpaceMaker 8-Cup Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe Review

Black & Decker SDC850 SpaceMaker 8-Cup Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I pre ordered one of the SDC850's a month ago and it showed up yesterday.Nice looking unit, but pretty por performance.

Mounting "Simply grasp the top panel and pull it off"I'm 6ft 185 lbs and couldn't get the top panel to slide off, maybe some C4 would help?No problem, it can be mounted in one piece.

The template doesn't have the measurements that the directions say it does.OK, figure that out and drill the holes.

Using the spacers required for my cabinets I find that the only screws that will work are the longest ones - which are so long that they bottom out in the front right hole.Out to the garage to cut the screw shorter.

Next I attempt to pull out the filter basket - won't come out.I pull on it hard enough to start flexing the entire coffee maker and it comes free.Turns out that the hole in the filter basket that engauges the retaining pin has a plastic "turd" still on it.Trim that off and it works well.

All mounted up, give the coffee maker a try.It brews a good cup of coffee. However, it doesn't seem possible to pour that cup of coffee without getting some all over the counter.

EDIT: It appears that my caraffe is defective, which is the reason for the inability to pour cleanly. The coffee leaks between where the stainless bottom and plastic top are glued together.I'll be contacting B&D warranty for a replacement.

UPDATE #2: Got ahold of B&D warranty and it appears that they have no parts or even any full units in stock.New pot is on order for me with no ETA.

Update #3: It's now April 3rd and Black and Decker still does not have any replacement caraffes to send. I should have returned the whole thing immediately.

Update #4: May 5th and still no caraffe.B&D's warranty service is unimpressive to say the least.

Final Update:May 15th finally received a complete replacement unit from B&D.Thankfully this one doesn't leak.

Intex Ultra Metal Frame Pool w/ New Child Safety Barrier Ladder - 18' x 52" complete set Review

Intex Ultra Metal Frame Pool w/ New Child Safety Barrier Ladder - 18' x 52' complete set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We looked at getting a "real" pool but couldn't justify the cost. This arrived quickly and was complete. We did pay the extra to have the site prepared, we have a pretty good slope to our yard and really did not like the idea of all of that digging.Once the water compacted the soil, there is still a very minor dip at one end, only about one inch difference total but enough to notice with the water level.I personally don't think that is possible to have dirt completely level.Be sure to check for stones, even a few inches down from the surface. The weight of the water will accent these bumps pretty well.
I had read other reviews that said it was a pain to put up and with three small kids, we opted for a pool installer to set it up.Wish we hadn't.It was Lincoln logs, easy as pie to put together. You definitely need two or more people though. The pieces fit together easily but snugly, especially once the water started going in.The kids have a tendency to hang on the sides as they adjust goggles and whatnot, but it is fine.We did upgrade the ladder to one with a bigger platform and a gate for the kids' safety.
The pump is wonderful. We had a 12' round with the most pitiful pump the year before. We had algae and sediment problems all summer. It was a serious pain. This pump actually moves a lot of water.I had purchased a used PoolFrog system from Ebay and put that in line with the pump. One mineral cartridge a season, and one BacPac every 6 weeks, and I swear that I never had to add a single thing all summer. The water was clear and beautiful every day.
The cleaning kit that came with pool works great too.The skimmer and vacuum really get the sand and grass off the bottom. It never looked bad until I was done sweeping, then I looked at what it picked up.Yuck!I had to sweep about two or three times over the season, simply because of grass stuck to feet and things.
Honestly, we love it.It is big enough for several kids and a few adults, it isn't obnoxious blue, and I get to spend more time IN my pool, than MAINTAINING my pool.
Don't follow the enclosed directions for winterizing. You will crack the plunger valves like we did.A cheap fix though, $30 for two new valves and it is as good as new.We live in NE Ohio and left it up for the winter with a chemical kit in it before and it was fine.
The solar cover that comes with it is sad.Upgrade to a bubble one.
That's it.
We love it.Couldn't be happier.
****It is now more than halfway into the second season and the pool is still great. We actually added a solar heater to the pool this year and the pump works fine with it.Our local pool store tried to tell us the pump wasn't strong enough to push the water through the heater and the frog but it is fantastic. We actually have to turn the pump off sometimes to keep the water from getting too warm. The vacuum works with the heater intalled also.No tears, fading or discoloration of the liner, interior or exterior.Still love it.****

This is a replacement for my old Cuisinart coffee maker which I had for about six years or so (the predecessor to this model). I loved my old one even with some of the little quirks it had. It beat out any Braun or Krupp pot which I had ever owned. This new updated model is a winner. All of the small annoyances have been solved, such as the small fill tank opening, the dripping cover that leaked back into the fill tank, and finally, thank you Cuisinart people, a water level guide on the outside of the unit. The front knobs on the front are now also easier to see and use. As my other Cuisinart did, it brews superior coffee and quickly. I find it takes about one minute per cup... 12 minutes for twelve cups, not bad at all. Yes, the unit does make some clicking and popping noises when it is new, so did my old one. But that goes away in time as the unit gets "broken in". I do not think you can find a better coffee maker on the market.

I've owned this humidifier for over a year now and I am in the process of looking for it on sale to replace all my other ones in the home. It's filterless so I haven't had to worry about moldy smells or finding a filter in the middle of winter at ridiculous prices.Anywho, this one is in my kids' room and I keep it at a low setting and it gives off this soft hum that actually drowns out other home noises.I fill it up every third day and I haven't had problems with water spilling or any other malfunction (like I've read in other reviews).Once a month I clean the base with a clorox wipe and I'm set.I also add an anti microbial solution (from Kaz)every time I refill it and it helps keep it clean and odorless.

These humidifier filters are as cheap as they get and lasts forever! We live in the Southwestern desert and our family members all have naturally dry skin so our humidifiers practically run year around (one in each bedroom, 365 nights a year).I only need to replace these filters about twice a year because, every month, I soak them in vinegar to remove the hard water deposits. This keeps the filters supple and able to absorb/output more moisture into the air.Don't buy the cheap "fakes" on eBay; get the original Vornado filters; they'll last a whole lot longer than the "fakes".Love the Vornado humidifiers too -- easiest to use and clean!

First of all, this "toy" does not exhibit a "fun" value, nor does it have an "educational" value, but I couldn't post this review without giving it a star rating...LOL.

I have this pump that came with my easy-set, metal-frame pool.It works great, but not without other regular maintanence tasks that is required to keep your pool clean and healthy.Sounds like the previous reviewers expect the filter to work on its own, continuously, like with an in-ground pool. This is not the case.

As for the one previous reviewer that says it doesn't filter sediment, that's because you need to use the vacuum. The vacuum (at least with my pool) had a separate canister, whereby you insert a tighly-woven mesh bag, and connect the hoses to the filter and vacuum the pool bottom.I do this every 2-3 days, depending on pool usage.Plus, it's very helpful to have a tub of clean water for pool users to rinse their feet before climbing the ladder to enter the pool. This had cut down the sediment problem immensely.

At any rate, after a thorough vacuuming of the pool bottom, I find that the mesh bag is loaded with sediment and other stuff. After vacuuming, I switch the vacuum canister with the skimmer piece and let the filter run 6-8 hours (overnight works well for me).

Another problem that may inhibit the filter's function for the previous reviewers is you cannot leave the filter connected to the pool hoses 24/7.The filter cartridge stays submerged and will eventually mold - greatly reducing the filtering rate and getting yucky water slowly filtering back into the pool when you do turn the filter pump on.This happened with another friend of mine and once he started disconnecting hoses and changing the canisters more frequently, the problem stopped.

You need to close the plunger valves, disconnect the hose from the filter (I leave the other end attached to the plungers)and open the side valve on the filter to fully drain the water. From there, I check the status of the filter cartridge -- sometimes it can last 2-3 filtering runs (when I leave it on over night) and other times, it needs immediate replacing.During heavy usage months, I go through a least 1-2 cartridges a week.

Also, by disconnecting the hose from the filter itself, you can check the outside connection point.Sometimes I find grass blades (that slithered through the skimmer) trapped and blocking the intake point to the filter. However, this is rare.I also put chlorine shock through my skimmer, while the filter is on, once a week. This helps to keep the filter mechanisms cleaned, too.

Having a pool is lots of fun for my family and their friends, that come over...but, with the fun, comes responsibility.Maintaining proper PH/chlorine levels is an absolute must.High PH reading with not only affect the clarity of your water and the comfort of your swimmers, but the acidic reading (PH 7.8 and higher) will wear out the filter as the acid water goes through.

Invest in a 3-way pool kit (about $10) and check the PH and chlorine daily. This will help prolong the life of your pool and the filter.Once the pool is stabilized (the PH and Chlorine levels are harmonized), this routine maintanence doesn't take long.Frequent and proper filtering, vacuuming, chlorine (some people use the floating duck to slowly dissolve chlorine daily...for me, I do a weekly shock treatment instead without problems) will keep everyone happy.

If you are not diligent with the pool upkeep, then you will have problems with algae, etc... and will end up wasting water from having to drain it and start over.Good luck!

Tablets are used to keep the water in a home humidifier from getting gross and keep scale from building on the unit. They seem to work as advertised. They dissolve quickly and easily keep water fresh for a week with the medium-high humidity setting I am using in the Northeast.

Cuisinart GTF-B Gold Tone Coffee Filter Review

Cuisinart GTF-B Gold Tone Coffee Filter
Average Reviews:

The previous reviewer is correct about the "sediment" from the filter.Typically gold filters allow the oils and other properties of the ground bean to pass though, instead of being stuck in the paper filter. This gives a darker richer coffee. It also means you have a small "shot" of more dense coffee at the end of your cup.You can either drink it or not, some people really like the taste of the gold filter, others are used to the paper and don't like it at all.I guess it's just a matter of taste.

The company charges more for these Culligan D-250A filters
but ships the cheeper non Culligan brand filters.
So u may as well just buy the cheeper non Culligan brand filter.
In fact after this experience I am not sure I would trust anything on Amazon again.
especially since both filters are listed by the same company on Amazon ... so its a bait and switch.

Capresso 4440.90 3-pack Charcoal Water Filters Review

Capresso 4440.90 3-pack Charcoal Water Filters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Beginning with the Coffee Team Plus, Capresso introduced the concept of a water filter in the water tank of their automatic coffee makers. If you use tap water, the filter is a wonderful idea. It removes impurities and chlorine before the water is heated. Clean water and a clean coffee maker = great coffee.
The manufacturer's recommendation is to change filters every 6 weeks or 60 pots of coffee. I usually change them every two months, or so. I imagine the effectiveness of the filter may depend on the quality of the water you use. I haven't had a problem yet.
Usage tip: Each filter is individually wrapped in plastic to keep it fresh until opened. When you open a filter, first soak it in cold water for about 15 minutes. Then rinse it under running water for another minute or two until the water dripping from the filter is clear. If you still see black particles dripping from the filter, run a pot of water through the coffee maker, with the new filter inserted, without coffee beans and discard the water afterward, or use the water for plants (when it is cooled, of course.)
