I always suspected that the pump was too small/didn't move enough water. It was installed when we bought our house. This pump has made a huge differnce. We used to run the old pump 24/7 and it couldn't do what this pump doees in less than half the time. We run it 10hrs. per day. 10am-8pm and have beautiful crystal clear water in our 18x33x48" above ground pool. 15-16000 gallons.

AquaQuik 4511 3/4-Horsepower Pool Sand Filter Review

I am using this on a 10 ft round 3 ft deep intex pool for about a week now and the pool is crystal clear. I plug it in for a short time each day. The skimmer is great, the sand is good for at least 7 years, thats 7 years of not buying filters, the fittings are perfect for intex pools and 1 1/4 and 1 1/2" hose connections, all included or built in. My nly complaint is that the intake from the pump should have a gasket of some sort, but I am going to silicone the hose on since I have no intentions or reason to ever take it off. That is sooo minor, but it really is my only complaint so I thought I'd share. Oh and this thing is super quiet, and the 1/2 hp is more than enough to get the job done! This thing really puts out quiet a force, and the suction is unbelievable. I will NEVER EVER buy or ues an intex pump, EVER. They are junk and not fit to filter my fish tank. This will last for years and when we up grade to a bigger pool will be able to do the job too!July 5th, 2010 UPDATE

Okay guys & gals, still have the filter. Still working great. A few things to note, the hose from the pump to the filter will not last, it will eventually crack and if pluggeg in and unattended, will pump your pool empty. I've tried several pool stores to find a replacement part but nobody has anything close. There is a great solution however, took the pool pump to Lowes and went to the PVC section and matched up fittings and pipes. Then I went to the pool pump section and bought a rubber connector. I piped the pump to the filter and problem solved. I'll put pictures up sometime.

Secondly, people have mentioned the leak that comes from the top of the filter. Last year I called game (number on the filter) and the sent me a new top for free no questions asked. This year the new one began leaking worse than the old one. I took the old one out and inspected it, I found that some of the screws on the underside were not tight. I tightened them up and put it on and guess what? No more leaking. I went ahead and dissassembled the newer on with the bad leak (just remove all the screws on the underside) and I found that there is a little rubber gasket that was torn. Thats basically it. They have a piece of plastic that seperates the spring from the gasket, when the plastic cracks the rubber gasket basically gets eaten and you start leaking water. Solution, throw plastic away (recycle) and put a metal washer in its place with a new rubber gasket. Should be able to get both at the hardware store for less than $3.00.

I stand by this being worth the money. Some people may not be happy because they expected to get a great deal on a sand filter and never have to do maintenance ever again. Welcome to pool ownership. Any filter on any pool will eventually need something. After having gotten two seasons of crystal clear swimming out of this, I can deal with replacing things like hoses and gaskets just fine. I hope this helps someone. I will put up pics when I get around to it.

Box was mislabeled by Amazon and contained filter only.Cost of $279 would be very good price for filter/pump assembly but Amazon sells the filter separately for about $160, so no one wouldpay $279 for just filter.They provided return label so could be returned at no cost to me.

Intex Hose Conversion Adapters Kit Review

(More customer reviews)First off, I don't know why anyone would order these adapters from any place other than Intex directly - the manufacturer.They sell them for about $2.50ea and you can get two, delivered anywhere for about $10.

Second, while they do attach nicely, they do cause the rest of the hose and attachments to stick out and pull down on the protruding 1 1/4" black nozzle as another poster indicated.

Finally, there is a design flaw in that the black gasket, on the end of the adapter that attaches to the plunger valve, is mated to a rim rim that is hollow.You can see this by just pulling the gasket back on that edge.Once assembled everything will work fine for a while.But after a few minutes, the gasket gets sucked into the hollow rim and causes air to enter the system resulting in a "buzzing" around the adapter and significantly reduced water flow - probably not good for the pump either.The rim really should be a solid flat surface for the gasket to mate to.This is probably caused by the a pump that is designed for 1 1/2" openings moving water through the a 1 1/4" adapter.

I considered fixing this by filling the hollow edge with liquid resin available from a craft store.I ultimately just cut out the 1 1/4" inflow and outflow black tube and installed the strainer/nozzle assemblies that came with the pump, ditching the adapters altogether.Everything works fine and I have an 1 1/2" path through the whole system. An added benefit is that the assemblies now don't pull down on the pool liner as they are closer and have much more surface area in contact with the liner.

I hooked up the vacuum I purchased and it worked like it was supposed to (what a concept).The water was crystal clear in 2 hours and the bottom clean.I am very impressed.It was slightly hard to install because the directions are not real clear, but if you have some mechanical ability, it can be done.One thing - the hoses were impossible to put on the barbs until I used the hair dryer to soften up the hose ends.

It even cleaned up the debris off the bottom without even vacuuming the pool! I highly recommend this pump to anyone tired of messing with the under powered pumps that come with the easy set pools. (More customer reviews)If any of you out there have one of those Intex, above-ground, metal framed pools...then this is a must have!!I have had my pool now for 3 years.Each year I have gone the chlorine route and had to buy expensive chemicals, add them all the time, check the water all the time, etc.But this year I purchased one of these, hooked it to my existing pump; followed the directions....And you just set it and forget it!!It sounded too good to be true...but it is true!! All you have to do is to push a button every once in a while to run the Boost cycle (after hard rains and about once a week-same as what you would call a Shock treatment with chemicals) and change the filter when in need.The new 2010 model even will give you a code if your salt level gets too low...or too high...or even if your water flow is low. You cannot taste the salt..no burning eyes, bathing suits dont change their colors..and the water is just as clear....I LOVE IT...and would highly recommend it.I can actually enjoy my pool!!It will pay for itself in the first season!!

Intex 56635E 1,500-Gallon Filter Pump Review

(More customer reviews)this pump came with my Intex inflatable ring pool (18x48) I bought in 2007.The pump action is plenty strong for taking care ofbusiness with a pool this size.However, the impeller design leaves much to be desired.The impeller is attached to a plastic covered magnet which spins to create the pump action.After a year (about 4 months of use where I live) the plastic cover over the magnet broke and the magnet is beginning to rust out.It still works at an impaired level, and it makes a lot of noise.I bought this on June 23, 2007.I called Intex on July 7 2008 - 2 weeks out of warranty, and the Intex rep said "there is nothing we can do for you."I asked about a replacement impeller, he said they dont sell just the impeller (which is rediculous, as they break all the time).I asked if they could cover me under the warranty as it's only been a couple weeks outside of the year.He said "we can't do that."So now I'm stuck having to shell out for a new pump once the rest of the plastic dislodges from the impeller.Save your money.Intex pools are great, but buy a different brand name pump to service the pool if you can.These pumps are not built to last.As for Intex customer support, their policy is 1 year and I can't argue with them, though not working with a customer when their product is only 2 weeks out of warranty is pretty pathetic.

Putting out 15psi and very little noise from pump. Only draw back is it only has one speed HIGH. Getting ready to open pool up next week. Time will tell how well it works. I believe for the money you can not beat it, Rec. Warehouse wanted over $300. The pressure coming out of the return hose is great. Hope this helps you!

Intex 58603E Recreation 530-Gallon Pool Filter Pump Review

Last summer we stored our brand new pump carefully knowing how sensitive these pumps are. We set up our pool this spring and plugged in our carefully-stored pump- nothing. There is no reason why this should not work other than shoddy workmanship. Don't waste your money.

Intex 2,100-Gallon Sand Filter Pump Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this pump about a week ago to replace the 1500gph pump that came with my intex easy set 18'x48" round pool. This was very convenient due to the fact that it was made by intex and was very simple to hook up to the existing setup. I have been really impressed so far with the design and function of intex components, particularly relating to the hose connections. Nothing beats the threaded hose connections and the convenient shut-off valves in the pool walls.

This pump comes with the pump motor and sand filter. The only thing I had to supply was two 50lb bags of silica filter sand. The connections and assembly were typical intex easy for a do it yourselfer no tools needed, which seems to be a theme with intex products. The motor is quite powerful and the sand filter is second to none. It is also quite convenient because you don't have to replace a paper filter every two weeks. Water has been crystal clear. Once I bought the sand I had this thing up and running in about 25 minutes. It works with all of the existing connections on the 18' diameter and larger pools. If you have a smaller pool you have to use some adapters that come with the pump kit. A new set of hoses is included as well with the very convenient threaded connections.

Overall I love this pump so far!

CON: My only small gripe is the O-ring seal in the leaf catcher lid. You really have to tighten it just right to get a good seal (if not it will drip all day). If it's too loose it leaks, if it's too tight it leaks. You really have to mess with it so it won't leak. This did not become apparent until the first time I had to remove the lid to pull out the strainer for cleaning. Going to have to deduct a star for that. Minor inconvenience, but the pump is still a lot of bang for the buck and I don't regret my purchase one bit.

Intex 1,500 gph Above Ground Pool Replacement Filter Pump Only Review

(More customer reviews)First of all, this "toy" does not exhibit a "fun" value, nor does it have an "educational" value, but I couldn't post this review without giving it a star rating...LOL.

I have this pump that came with my easy-set, metal-frame pool.It works great, but not without other regular maintanence tasks that is required to keep your pool clean and healthy.Sounds like the previous reviewers expect the filter to work on its own, continuously, like with an in-ground pool.This is not the case.

As for the one previous reviewer that says it doesn't filter sediment, that's because you need to use the vacuum.The vacuum (at least with my pool) had a separate canister, whereby you insert a tighly-woven mesh bag, and connect the hoses to the filter and vacuum the pool bottom.I do this every 2-3 days, depending on pool usage.Plus, it's very helpful to have a tub of clean water for pool users to rinse their feet before climbing the ladder to enter the pool.This had cut down the sediment problem immensely.

At any rate, after a thorough vacuuming of the pool bottom, I find that the mesh bag is loaded with sediment and other stuff.After vacuuming, I switch the vacuum canister with the skimmer piece and let the filter run 6-8 hours (overnight works well for me).

Another problem that may inhibit the filter's function for the previous reviewers is you cannot leave the filter connected to the pool hoses 24/7.The filter cartridge stays submerged and will eventually mold - greatly reducing the filtering rate and getting yucky water slowly filtering back into the pool when you do turn the filter pump on.This happened with another friend of mine and once he started disconnecting hoses and changing the canisters more frequently, the problem stopped.

You need to close the plunger valves, disconnect the hose from the filter (I leave the other end attached to the plungers)and open the side valve on the filter to fully drain the water. From there, I check the status of the filter cartridge -- sometimes it can last 2-3 filtering runs (when I leave it on over night) and other times, it needs immediate replacing.During heavy usage months, I go through a least 1-2 cartridges a week.

Also, by disconnecting the hose from the filter itself, you can check the outside connection point.Sometimes I find grass blades (that slithered through the skimmer) trapped and blocking the intake point to the filter.However, this is rare.I also put chlorine shock through my skimmer, while the filter is on, once a week.This helps to keep the filter mechanisms cleaned, too.

Having a pool is lots of fun for my family and their friends, that come over...but, with the fun, comes responsibility.Maintaining proper PH/chlorine levels is an absolute must.High PH reading with not only affect the clarity of your water and the comfort of your swimmers, but the acidic reading (PH 7.8 and higher) will wear out the filter as the acid water goes through.

Invest in a 3-way pool kit (about $10) and check the PH and chlorine daily.This will help prolong the life of your pool and the filter.Once the pool is stabilized (the PH and Chlorine levels are harmonized), this routine maintanence doesn't take long.Frequent and proper filtering, vacuuming, chlorine (some people use the floating duck to slowly dissolve chlorine daily...for me, I do a weekly shock treatment instead without problems) will keep everyone happy.

If you are not diligent with the pool upkeep, then you will have problems with algae, etc... and will end up wasting water from having to drain it and start over.Good luck!

(More customer reviews)I was way disappointed in the filter that came with my pool as it was horribly underpowered last year.We had trouble finding a replacement last year during the season and I stumbled upon this one.It works GREAT.Upon ordering, I received it in about four days.It turned over the pool in no time and the water was sparkling with just a half day's run time.The previous filter had been on for two days at a clip and would not handle the pool.The only problem I had with this pump is the picture is not accurate.The picture shows a larger pump with the medium canister separate from the pump; that was a big selling point for me.This is a single canister with the pump inside and under the filter medium.I would have ponied up the extra $30 for the larger pump had I known.I was UPSET upon receiving it, as I felt I had been duped, but its performance has been exceptional.I would still buy the larger one for my pool (~14'round x 33" deep) if only to save on the operating costs.Other than that however no complaints!

(More customer reviews)Amazon gives me a toy rating system for this pool pump - but it is everything but!!A terrific pump that I bought as a replacement for an 18 x 4 foot pool - as I was looking for a pump that I could really "vacuum" with.This filter was the ticket.It has ample power and suction to perform my task without a problem.The larger filter is wonderful in that now I no longer have to do the filter cleaning every other day but can go 1-2 weeks!!No more surface skimming either! I simply turn the pump on for 10 minutes before we get in and the skimmer basket combined with this pump does it for me!!In summary - I now love my pool a whole lot more!!
