(More customer reviews)I was really excited about this because of the multi-function use. At the same time, I was skeptical. Our little dog likes to pee in small places on the carpet, so we needed good carpet cleaner that would deep clean these areas.

The carpet cleaner works very well. Both the large cleaner extension and the handheld spray and suction the water, which most others do not do. It was a decision between this and the Hoover Agility. The Agility does not seem to have a sprayer on the extension hose.

When it comes to the vacuum, it's not that great. The suction is only good enough for area rugs. The carpet extension has a air powered brush that stops working on normal carpet and it only cleans the top surface debris.

So, if you want something for hardwood and deep carpet cleaning this is great. Just don't try to replace a regular vacuum cleaning with this.

(More customer reviews)I recommend purchasing these machines straight from the manufacturer, he'll give you all the info you need and it is less expensive.Just google "precipitation water generators".The man is brilliant and is inventing simply amazing things, such as these water generators.

I searched for years to figure out how to filter out all the chemicals, metals, bacteria, prescription medications, ect. that is contaminating the municipal drinking water.This is it.The filtration process in this unit alone is probably enough to filter out most everything from the city drinking water, but even better; since the water you'll be drinking comes from the humidity, none of that junk is there to begin with.

The higher the humidity level in your area, the quicker and more efficiently it will make water.

It took a while to get the new appliance smell out of the drinking water but after that, the water coming from it was, without a doubt, the cleanest tasting drinking water I've ever tasted.My friend told me it was like drinking snow and I know it's even better than that.

However, I speak of the unit in past tense because currently I am not using it.Unfortunately, I let mine sit for quite some time and mold grew in the collection tank.The unit cycles the water to keep it purified, but when there is enough mold growing it just can't be filtered well enough and it mold gets in your glass.
For this reason, I had originally planned to rate this appliance with four stars.But to downplay such an amazing piece of equipment because of my own neglect is arrogantly ignorant.So my suggestion: Use it and follow the recommended cleaning instructions.

If I could make one improvement to this machine it would be to have an option to keep the unit on but be able to turn off the water production.

The pitcher must be used.The filter cannot dry out, nor can the water be left to sit for more than "3-4 days" without replacement.
I like this filter, but I also need to get a water filter that fits directly on my faucet, because there are too many occasions where it is inconvenient to get and use the pitcher from the refrigerator.
Knowing when to replace the filter and where to get it from are problems.They suggest replacing it every 160 quarts (80 pitchers); or two months ...

(More customer reviews)I bought this compost pail eight months ago, and am very happy I did.I have reduced the amount of weekly trash and in combination with a composter in my postage-stamp-size backyard, have set up a system where I'm making great compost for my potted plants, my little garden, my house plants.The compost pail, which sits on my kitchen counter, is virtually odorless (I haven't changed the filter yet--I just periodically rinse it).

The only reason I'm giving it four rather than five stars is that now, in the warmer months, it's attracting fruit flies. Every time I lift the lid a little swarm of them (5 or 6) flies out.They fly right back in, however, for it's Paradise Hotel for them. I don't think the charcoal filter does anything in terms of keeping them out.I may try a bit of mosquito netting and see if that helps.

As a noveau environmentalist, I'd advise against what the other reviewer suggests:don't use a plastic trash bag!That kind of defeats the purpose, for plastic is a big environmental problem. This pail is small and easy to clean.I just dump the scraps into my composter, then rinse the pail with water that I pour into the composter thereafter.If you're fussy, you can wash it with a bit of dish soap in the kitchen sink. Mine, thanks to coffee grounds (worms love 'em), fruit and veggie peelings, actually never gets at all funky.

Generally it's recommended that you not put any animal byproducts or grains in your compost--among other things, those are what usually makes things smelly and can also lead to disease or to strange things sprouting up in your soil.

Clear2O Premium Water Filtration Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)I didn't buy this through Amazon but on impulse at Target. For 10 years I've used a Pur pitcher for my drinking water. Within the last 2 years I've noticed a major change in the quality of the filters. In less than half the usual usage time, they would develop what my wife calls "slow filter." This means that you fill the pitcher and it can take an hour or more to filter through. The first couple I wrote off as defective, then I complained to Pur and got some free filters, but it just keeps happening. These filters are too expensive to die prematurely.

So I tried the Clear20. At first I was put off by the complexity of the set-up, but assuming your faucet is standard and not fancy it just requires replacing the aerator with the Clear20 aerator that is compatible with their filling hose.

The aerator is something that stays on your faucet all the time. When you want to fill the pitcher, you put it in the sink, flip the hose up from the handle (it stays attached there) and click it onto the nipple. Then you fill the pitcher. It takes something like 60 seconds.

Here's the thing that may not be clear to you: the Clear20 uses the power of the tap to push the water through the filter at high speed. When you're done filling the pitcher, you have a full pitcher of water ready to drink. If you've ever waited for Pur and Brita to drip though, you will REALLY appreciate this feature. Let me repeat: the pitcher fills in about 60 seconds and the water is instantly filtered.

Basically what they've done is to put a faucet-mount filter into a pitcher. It was a genius move and I love it.

The other innovation/difference with the Clear20 pitcher is that the filter is rated for 50 gallons, not a vague time period. There is an indicator on top of the pitcher. When you've gone through 40 gallons it turns yellow; you have 10 gallons remaining in the yellow period, then you have to replace the filter. They're a little more expensive than the Pur filters but they are rated for 10 gallons more. Also, you can easily buy them online andClear20 even has a filter subscription club so you don't have to think about it.

Assuming these filters don't develop "slow filter" like Pur, they're going to be awesome.

Cuisinart WCH-950 CleanWater 2-Gallon Countertop Water-Filtration System Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these last week at Bed Bath and Beyond. I didn't even know I needed one until I saw it. As with most Cuisinart products, the design of the unit is quite nice. But aesthetics aren't everything.

To begin with, the directions aren't very clear. I attempted to pre-soak the filter as directed, but it didn't seem to do anything. Also, the initial filtering of the water took a lot longer than the instructions stated. I believe they said it would take about 15 minutes for the water to filter through into the dispenser. Mine took almost an hour. Who knows, maybe I didn't soak the filter properly. But that was just the beginning of my problems.

Once the water was filtered, I switched the device on. It was a lot louder than I thought it would be. Actually, I wasn't expecting much noise at all. The device does quiet down a bit, after it has reached its target temperatures for the hot and cold. But after you dispense some water, it kicks back in again. If you have a large kitchen, the sound of the device might not be a problem for you. After all, it's a small price to pay for instantly available hot and cold filtered water. OK, "instantly" might not be the best choice of words.

To dispense water from either side, you have to press in and hold the appropriate button. The water comes out in a steady stream, but a very thin stream. Which means, it takes a long time just to fill up one cup. Even as a single man, this kind of wait was unbearable. I can't imagine someone with a family using this device. In any case, if you do end up purchasing this device, I wish you luck. I ended up returning mine just a few days after I purchased it.

Pur Ultimate Faucet Mount Brushed Stainless Steel Horizontal Filtration System Review

(More customer reviews)I have been using various Pur faucet filters through at least 5 units now.Originally the plastic rotate units, then 2 stainless in a row as I moved each time I'd just buy a new one leave the old behind.They are great.....

EXCEPT that the case tends to crack nearest the faucet hookup.This is particularly quick to happen on the units that rotate.But it has also happened to me with the stainless steel unit just happened to me on a SECOND stainless now.

ALSO the screw-on cap in front is a PAIN to remove.It's round and smooth and hard to find any grip on it when it's screwed in tight.They really should put a couple of flat edges to give your fingers somewhere to grab.Installing is difficult as well getting that last bit of turn-down to get it flush.

I keep coming back to Pur though even with these defects they are a great value.

Once, long ago, PUR was a great company with great water filtering technology. I still love their filters! Unfortunately, a big bad company named Proctor and Gamble bought them and messed them over in favor of customer abuse. This was accomplished using two methods. The first method is called 'planned obsolescence' whereby their faucet mount apparatus leak and die briefly after the end of the warranty period. (It didn't used to be that way in the good old days). The second method is called 'timed death' whereby their apparatus lock up their enclosed filters at a preset volume of filtered water, whether the filter is actually used up or not.

Planned obsolescence can be overcome by calling up Proctor and Gamble BEFORE your warranty runs out, and letting them know that your PUR apparatus is squirting water all over your kitchen. Ask them to send you a replacement or a replacement certificate. If need be, call repeatedly asking to speak to the President of P&G, never taking 'no' for an answer. Then take your certificate and get another PUR apparatus. This will provide you with a lifetime for the apparatus more representative of the lifetime of original PUR apparatus. You've cheated no one. P&G's cheat on you has been overcome.

The timed death lockout of your filter is extremely easy to overcome. Pull out the filter from the apparatus. This resets the nasty timing device to zero again. Put your filter back in. TADA! You're done. Your filter will work as before. Note, however, that PUR filters do eventually get clogged with stuff. You'll know when to change it.

I hope that helps everyone restore goodness to the universe. I still love PUR filters better than any other brand and wouldn't be without them. It's P&G's customer abuse that's not worth liking. Shame on you P&G.

Brita 42378 Deluxe Water Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)First off, I have to say Brita's filters make tap water taste really great. We had this with us in Germany, where the water is really disgusting right from the tap. That water was completely undrinkable but the Brita pitcher made liters and liters of fresh-tasting water that rivaled the expensive bottled French stuff. We felt it was well worth the real estate it took up in our typically shoebox sized Euro-fridge. And the pitcher is easy on the eyes, with nice, sleek styling.
There are a few "gotcha's" with this pitcher. For one thing, the small cover on the spout is fragile. If you drop the lid (easy to do if wet) it will break. This is minor as the pitcher will work fine without it. The end-of-filter life is a timer, not a sensor of filter quality. If you go through gallons of water, the filter will expire before the indicator tells you. You can tell this by the bad taste. You have to watch that the filter does not dry out, so you should not leave the pitcher dry when you empty it out. This takes some discipline from the kids (and dare I say, adults) to fill it up immediately.
The Brita does filter relatively quickly. However, if you need more than 3/4 of a gallon at a time of water, or you go through a lot of water (we do), you may want a sink filter or an in-line filter instead. But for cold, delicious water at a reasonable cost, you can't beat this pitcher. We ended up buying a sink filter instead and retired our pitcher, but it really did well by us for quite a while.

(More customer reviews)Our water comes from a well. It's good water - no bacteria - but, coming from the earth, while being reasonably clean, it's not exactly 'pure'. We have a filter in the basement but, since it's our kids who drink it, we used to have a faucet filter as well. Well... we decided that the faucet filters were more trouble than their worth so we switched to this unit.

It's quite easy to operate - attach the filter (2-5 seconds), fill the top with water and clean water trickles into the lower half. Cover the top and... add more water to the top half as needed. Every few months replace the filter and give it a good overall wash. That's IT.

WE WILL NEVER GO BACK :)

To summarize the good things about this implement:

- Pretty good capacity. Not so sure how much but it should be more than 1 gallon on a full load.
- Can keep it in the fridge or outside. We keep ours on the kitchen counter.
- It looks cool. It really does. It's designed and colored to convey 'freshness' and 'coolness'.
- I NEVER sensed anything 'chemical' about the water's smell of taste. It is possible that it depends of the quality of the water you pour in but the filter does a good job.
- The filters can be used for several months and they are worth the expense in my view.
- It lets your faucet operate the way it's supposed to. No faucet disfigurement or constraints from a faucet-attached filter.

I can't think of any major 'minuses'. If you hate faucet-attached filters but you'd still like extra clean-fresh water for drinking or cooking or tea and coffee brewing, this is what you need.

At first I used to buy bottled water but after realizing how many plastic bottles I was dumping in the trash every week I decided to find a more eco-friendly way to satisfy my thirst.

This product is great! The water tastes amazing, better than most bottled waters and the jug is huge. It also comes with 24oz bottles so I always have clean water available.

I 100% recommend this to anyone using bottled water, get your fix of clean water but contribute to a less polluted planet at the same time. (plus it will probably save you a couple of $$ ever month as well)

(More customer reviews)I may be reiterating what many of the reviewers before me have said, but I may have a few helpful points to add.

First, they should have never used plastic adapters.Kitchen faucets with internal threads are quite common and the likelihood is high that you will have to use one of the included adapters to attach the filter to that kind of faucet.The plastic threading simply can't withstand the water pressure that will inevitably push on it when you turn the water on all the way.

It would have been very easy for them to use quality steel parts, and I'm sure most people would have been happy to even pay $5-10 more for something that will actually last.It is especially surprising that they would cut corners on a product where the real profit comes from the replacement filters rather than the original purchase.Who knows what they were thinking (or if they were thinking at all), but this product simply doesn't work when setup correctly.

The use of plastic is not where the problems end, however, because there is literally less than a half an inch of exposed threading within the top portion of the adapter.The adapters themselves also have around a quarter inch of threading.This is really a shame, because even using a weak material like plastic might be sufficient if they had enough threads engaging to strengthen the connection.

That said, if you are set on using this product (or forced to), here are a couple of things you can do to help alleviate the problem.I've gotten mine to work long enough for me to order something from one of their competitors.

- Turn the water pressure down on your faucet.In case you don't know how, there are usually two levers (one hot, one cold) underneath your sink that control the water supply.Try tightening them until the water flow is slow enough that it won't blow the filter off.

- Try epoxy or a similar plastic bonding agent.I used epoxy to bond the adapter to the filter mount.You can then screw it on by holding the rotating ring in place.This is an irreversible and permanent solution, but it will make it so that there is only one point that will leak.

- Another poster suggested you can contact Brita to get a metal replacement adapter.That may be a good solution.However, keep in mind that you will still have to screw the metal adapter into a short length of plastic threading.That may simply shift the weakest point to a different part of the mount.

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Zen Water Filtration system about two weeks.I had been using a faucet based Pur filter, which kept leaking as splashing water everywhere.I choose this type of system because of the alkaline aspects of it.Water with Alkaline provides antioxidants, and helps to raise the pH levels, which is good for a lot of health conditions.

The Zen Water system arrived within a few days of ordering it.My order included both the 4 gallon dispenser and countertop models.

I was able to set the countertop model up with about 20 minutes, after reading the cryptic documentation.However, a picture is worth a thousand words, and based on the picture, I was able to set it up.

When I opened the box, I was surprised to discover that both items were in the same box, so I had to sort through the contents very carefully.

Needless to say, it is now sitting on my countertop.It took about 20 minutes before I could see some water coming into the dispensing chamber.When it was about 1 quarter full, I tried tasting the water, and I have to admit, I was not impressed.However, I waited until the chamber was completely full, and it tasted very good.The water has a very smooth taste and I don't taste any powder or residue from going through the filtration process or that I experienced using the Pur water filter.

I tried comparing the water taste with water from several other systems: from my faucet, Brita and Pur water filters. The Zen Water system tasted significantly different.The water from my faucet made me think that I was drinking pure chlorine, the water from the Brita and Pur filter tastes like there was chauky it, but the water from the Zen Water Filtration system had no odor, and was very easy to drink.

I intend on buying a few stainless steel water bottles so that I can replace the Brita filter that I was using at work.

I compared this water filter with the Santevia system, which cost $200.They both use the same filtering methodology.The Santevia does mention that it is BPA free (for those who don't know, that means that the plastic will not bleed into your drinking water, which occurs when using plastic bottles).I have compared the taste of the Santevia with the Zen filter and the tastes are very similar. The overall construction of the parts seems relatively the same.So for me it made more sense to purchase this model.
