Megahome Glass Collection Bottle 1 Gallon Review

Megahome Glass Collection Bottle 1 Gallon
Average Reviews:

$45 for a glass container?Way too much, but nothing else will fit the distiller properly. You could buy a microwave oven for that much! Some assembly required and NO instructions; not too hard to figure out though.Looks nice, but a full gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds so don't try to lift the full container just by the handle.

Bodum Biasca 40-Ounce Glass Iced Tea Maker Review

Bodum Biasca 40-Ounce Glass Iced Tea Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Had previously owned the Bodum Ceylon 51oz Iced Tea Pitcher, but the "infuser" was useless from the start and the lid broke after a few uses... so I was excited to see the Biasca Ice Tea Jug as an updated ice tea solution.

First off - please note that this is a COLD BREW iced tea maker which requires 5-6 hours of cold steeping in the fridge. This also means that hot water should never be used. The idea behind a cold brew is to cut down the bitterness or astringency of regular brew iced tea, and also to enhance the more subtle flavors of whichever leaf you're using.

This process and jug produces a very soft, light and delicate iced tea.If you're looking for brisk - keep looking.Even adding heaps of extra tea does not go far in strengthening a cold brew.

Regarding the Biasca, I LOVE the design - my version had a bright green lid and looked fun and modern. The overall size of the jug is also appreciated as it has a small diameter and a comfortable, slim handle.Plus the lid is fantastic - a good rubber seal and a fine mesh that keeps all leaves in the jug and out of your mug.Wonderful!

I wish I could continue enjoying that wonderful design, however, on only my second use, I set a full jug back in the fridge and the bottom two inches of the jug broke off and sent glass and thousands of tiny tea leaves all over my fridge and kitchen floor.

Be warned - this item is extremely fragile!I did not bang or slam the jug against anything, not did I use hot water - and yet it still broke.I'm sure you'll have better luck than I if you understand this going in.Treat it with kid gloves and I'm sure it will be a great iced tea maker for you!

But for me, being that this is the second Bodum tea product that has broken within a few uses, I think I'm calling it a day with their iced tea goods.

As a side note - I'm still a fan of Bodum products. I own many Bodum glasses and a glass teapot and have not had any issues with those even after a few years of use.Just something about their iced tea items....

Product Description:
The distinctive Biasca Iced Tea Jug by Bodum is named after a small town located in the south of Switzerland where it gets unusually warm during otherwise chilly summers. For locals, cold brewed green tea provides exactly the energy kick needed after hiking in the nearby mountains. To recreate this experience at home, place a desired amount of green tea leaves in the Biasca jug and fill it with cold water. Let it steep over night.Add ice cubes and sugar, as desired, the next day. The Biasca features a filter that is integrated into the lid designed to keep the green tea leaves in the jug when pouring tea. The Biasca can also be used to create refreshing infused water and other infused drinks. Additionally, the lid sits tightly on the jug's opening to properly store beverages. The Biasca jug is made of heat-resistant, ultra-light borosilicate glass and does not get cloudy in the dishwasher, even after repeated use. The removable lid is made of plastic with a silicone gasket and an integrated, finely meshed plastic filter. The jug has a capacity of 1.2l (40-ounce) and measures 27 cm (10.6) high.

This is the Best Gallon Pitcher available, works great. Cost a little more than some others but well worth it. Gallon size is great if you have a family. We also have a 2 quart of similar classic design, it's a great pitcher but rather small for our use. Actually have and use two of these gallon pitchers. Was skeptical of how well the gallon size would work, but ordered a second one after using it awhile.

Pitcher Filter Review

Pitcher Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nice filter design. When the pitcher is half empty, fill it from the tap. This way you always have at least 1 quart of filtered water ready. You can still pour from the filtered water at the bottom, as the top half with the tap water trickles through the filter.
The pitcher must be used. The filter cannot dry out, nor can the water be left to sit for more than "3-4 days" without replacement.
I like this filter, but I also need to get a water filter that fits directly on my faucet, because there are too many occasions where it is inconvenient to get and use the pitcher from the refrigerator.
Knowing when to replace the filter and where to get it from are problems. They suggest replacing it every 160 quarts (80 pitchers); or two months ...

Clear2O Premium Water Filtration Pitcher Review

Clear2O Premium Water Filtration Pitcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't buy this through Amazon but on impulse at Target. For 10 years I've used a Pur pitcher for my drinking water. Within the last 2 years I've noticed a major change in the quality of the filters. In less than half the usual usage time, they would develop what my wife calls "slow filter." This means that you fill the pitcher and it can take an hour or more to filter through. The first couple I wrote off as defective, then I complained to Pur and got some free filters, but it just keeps happening. These filters are too expensive to die prematurely.

So I tried the Clear20. At first I was put off by the complexity of the set-up, but assuming your faucet is standard and not fancy it just requires replacing the aerator with the Clear20 aerator that is compatible with their filling hose.

The aerator is something that stays on your faucet all the time. When you want to fill the pitcher, you put it in the sink, flip the hose up from the handle (it stays attached there) and click it onto the nipple. Then you fill the pitcher. It takes something like 60 seconds.

Here's the thing that may not be clear to you: the Clear20 uses the power of the tap to push the water through the filter at high speed. When you're done filling the pitcher, you have a full pitcher of water ready to drink. If you've ever waited for Pur and Brita to drip though, you will REALLY appreciate this feature. Let me repeat: the pitcher fills in about 60 seconds and the water is instantly filtered.

Basically what they've done is to put a faucet-mount filter into a pitcher. It was a genius move and I love it.

The other innovation/difference with the Clear20 pitcher is that the filter is rated for 50 gallons, not a vague time period. There is an indicator on top of the pitcher. When you've gone through 40 gallons it turns yellow; you have 10 gallons remaining in the yellow period, then you have to replace the filter. They're a little more expensive than the Pur filters but they are rated for 10 gallons more. Also, you can easily buy them online andClear20 even has a filter subscription club so you don't have to think about it.

Assuming these filters don't develop "slow filter" like Pur, they're going to be awesome.

I bought this because I was DONE with cases and cases of water bottles and drinking 4 a day. The waste was too much!
So I bought this and it came right away.It is super easy to assemble, just snap the lid into place if I remember correctly, and put the filter in.

The water tastes great!! And I am super-picky about my water.I don't like the mineral taste in some bottled waters from springs.I like the reverse osmosis taste, and this is like that.Make sure if you pour some water out of the pitcher that you ALWAYS fill it back up with cold water again.Keep it full as much as you can.

Great product and highly recommend!

Bodum Ceylon Iced Tea Maker with Filter Review

Bodum Ceylon Iced Tea Maker with Filter

This pitcher does what it says, but after using it for a few months I have to wonder if this pitcher is special enough to warrant the price. The 'pull in-pull out' compartment that holds tea bags or lemons is nice. But the plastic is so thin after a few uses it starts to warp out of shape. If youre not supposed to pour hot water in the pitcher, what is the point of using it?I really like the slim-ness of the pitcher overall (fits in the fridge well), and I don't mind its small capacity, but its overall fragile build leaves me wishing the manufacturers would have just created something more sturdy.I'd say someone is better off just brewing tea in a regular tupperware pitcher for half the price.

Crystal Quest Large Capacity Ultimate Pitcher Review

Crystal Quest Large Capacity Ultimate Pitcher
Average Reviews:

The filter does a great job of filtering out the impurities, and makes the water taste noticeably better, but the design of the pitcher itself could be much better. The pouring spout is very small, and the flip top sometimes comes loose when you're pouring. Also, the shape of the pitcher itself makes it feel unwieldy and unbalanced when you're pouring from a full pitcher.

The design of the Brita pitcher is much better--unfortunately, Brita filters do not filter out nearly as much stuff as Crystal Quest, which is why I chose to switch to Crystal Quest. If CQ would redesign their pitcher to be more "user friendly" it would be a terrific product.

Mavea 1001496 Universal Filter for Water Filtration Pitchers, 2-Pack Review

Mavea 1001496 Universal Filter for Water Filtration Pitchers, 2-Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use Brita water filters so my comparisons will be to that product. There are two things I dislike about Brita filters- one, you must presoak them and two, carbon from the filter seeps out into the filtered water. It is very upsetting to see. When I first read about the Mavea Universal Fit filters which require no presoaking and use a micro screen to keep carbon from leaking out of the filter into the filtered water, I was ecstatic. When I read further that they are substantially cheaper than Brita filters I was over the moon.

Now, it's reality time- putting the Mavea filter through its paces. Not having to presoak was wonderful and I did not see any carbon in the filtered water. So far so good. However, it is recommended that the Mavea filters be prewashed with two pitchers of water which is a bit of a nuisance. You have to get into Mavea's fine print to find out about this. The same thing must be done with Brita filters. Next up is Mavea's claim that their filters are dramatically cheaper than Britar's. Well.......yes and no. If you're buying a small number of Brita filters (one or two), there is quite a price difference. However, Brita sells their filters in small and large packages. If you compare the price of a Mavea filter to the cost of one or two Brita filters, you're going to have some pretty dramatic savings from buying the two pack Mavea. However, if you buy Brita in three-packs or greater, the price difference between Brita and Mavea disappears.

With the price difference really nil,, I would buy the Mavea filters because they don't have to be presoaked and because I didn't get the ugly black carbon residue in my filtered water. They seem to perform just as well as the Britas in all other respects.

Also to Mavea's credit (was probably government mandated as these filters come from Europe) is their total recycle program. So nothing goes into a landfill. If you'd like to show a bit of your green side, Mavea would be the way to go.

Brita Water Filtration System Kit: 1 Pitcher (Large Capacity) Plus 2 Fliters Review

Brita Water Filtration System Kit: 1 Pitcher Plus 2 Fliters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just bought this package (pitcher+2 filters) and the first thing that struck me is its shape: stylish and elegant. As I began to use it (two adults and two older boys--we go through 1.5 gallons/day), I noticed how efficient and effortless it is: It fills easily, filters water quickly, and pours effortlessly, while keeping track of the filter via a digital progress bar located on the lid housing. Because of its shape, you can fill up even very small-diameter bottle openings quickly and easily.

Note: I've read several reviews on this and other Brita pitchers that snipe about the design of the lid/filter assembly, and that it can fall out....(?) I've tried to make that happen and have been unsuccessful. From my experience, you'dhave to be pouring really aggressively with a full pitcher of water to make that happen, which doesn't make much sense when you consider that you'd be discharging water through the filler lid. If you've pushed the filter in with sufficient force to create a proper seal, then you've seated the lid/filter assembly with enough pressure to keep it from coming loose -- just pour normally!!!!

Now, as far as the economics go: Where I live a case of bottled spring water goes for $4-4.50/case. That breaks down to about $2.00/Gal of water. The Brita will make about 40 gallons of water for each $6.00 filter. Let's see: 40x $2/gal = $80.00 for 40 gallons of the bottled stuff vs. $6.00 for the same amount with the Brita......I'm thinkin' no-brainer here.

PUR Water Filtration Dispenser 1 ea Review

PUR Water Filtration Dispenser 1 ea
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our water comes from a well. It's good water - no bacteria - but, coming from the earth, while being reasonably clean, it's not exactly 'pure'. We have a filter in the basement but, since it's our kids who drink it, we used to have a faucet filter as well. Well... we decided that the faucet filters were more trouble than their worth so we switched to this unit.

It's quite easy to operate - attach the filter (2-5 seconds), fill the top with water and clean water trickles into the lower half. Cover the top and... add more water to the top half as needed. Every few months replace the filter and give it a good overall wash. That's IT.

WE WILL NEVER GO BACK :)

To summarize the good things about this implement:

- Pretty good capacity. Not so sure how much but it should be more than 1 gallon on a full load.
- Can keep it in the fridge or outside. We keep ours on the kitchen counter.
- It looks cool. It really does. It's designed and colored to convey 'freshness' and 'coolness'.
- I NEVER sensed anything 'chemical' about the water's smell of taste. It is possible that it depends of the quality of the water you pour in but the filter does a good job.
- The filters can be used for several months and they are worth the expense in my view.
- It lets your faucet operate the way it's supposed to. No faucet disfigurement or constraints from a faucet-attached filter.

I can't think of any major 'minuses'. If you hate faucet-attached filters but you'd still like extra clean-fresh water for drinking or cooking or tea and coffee brewing, this is what you need.

Clear2o CWS100AW Water Filtration Pitcher Review

Clear2o CWS100AW Water Filtration Pitcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased this water filter because the pitcher was to fill fast and the number of impurities it took out was provably more than any other commonly available pitcher system.

The unit definitely fills faster than Brita or PUR pitchers do. However, it makes a terrible, loud, higher-pitched gear grinding sound as it does so. It's not bad enough to wear ear protection, but you will have problems understanding someone in the room until you stop. Fortunately, it is less than a minute before it is filled.

Filtered water definitely tastes "cleaner." However, this taste is not as desirable as water filtered from the Brita pitcher would taste. Where the Brita might make water taste more like crude Dasani, Clear2O makes the water taste more like distilled water. I guess that is the price you pay for having 44+ contaminants removed (NSF verified) to 95+% efficiency (most are 99.9%+). The solid block carbon filter does a great job of making water taste plain. Unfortunately, this does highlight why an ion-exchange system such as Brita's can make more poorly filtered water taste better. For us, we've finally adjusted to the "cleaner" taste.

As for function, our pitcher came with a permanent leak and small slits that cause water to go back into the pitcher after being filtered, in a way that can allow contamination from the area under the lid to drip into the reservoir. Basically, water comes in from the tap and is injected into the area to which one side of the carbon is exposed. The water passes through the solid carbon, then flows up the filter and out through the filter's plastic canal, which meets with an open area with which the water then flows back down into the "cleaned" water area. However, the mating area where filtered water meets the pitcher (in the top handle of the filter itself) cannot fully seal. When we open the lid while filtering, visible water currents form at that area and this water drips down into clean water through small fissures. We've tested it with just pouring water into that general area, and the water quickly goes unfiltered into the pitcher, even with the filter seemingly blocking such access.

This was only something I tracked down once I started seeing occasional translucent floaters wafting around in the pitcher water when held up to the light. Whether the "floaters" are bacterial films, thin plastic or something else, I do not know.(I seem to guarantee their existence when refilling the pitcher when it is still half full, doing so for about a week, leaving the pitcher at room temperature.)

Clear2O appears to do a solid job of removing contaminants, but it appears to allow recontamination to a small extent. If this does not bother you for your application, this pitcher is for you.

UPDATE:The Clear2O website suggests cleaning the unit with vinegar, which would kill some bacteria. In my estimation, the floaters appear to be a harmless bacterial film that settles on the bottom of the pitcher after a while.Shaking the pitcher disturbs this film, creating the floaters noticed.

I've noticed cleaning the pitcher every so often with vinegar assures the floaters won't appear.

I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet the water tasted.I could immediately taste the difference between bottled water and the water from this pitcher. That charcoal filtration system is awesome. The water fills up quickly in the pitcher and the hookup to the faucet is really easy.I'm so glad not be lugging those heavy bottles of water anymore and spending a fortune on them
