ANDREA: Plant-based Air Purifier (White) Review

ANDREA: Plant-based Air Purifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
just set up our first ANDREA with an Aloe Vera plant inside and am loving it... the fresh greenhouse-like smell that comes out (especially when you first turn it on) is great and it looks perfect in the corner of our front room. there's an adjustable fan and you can turn on the light for a super sci-fi effect at night - which makes it look like something out of "Sunshine". right now we're moving it around the house every few days - might buy a dedicated one just for the bedroom. only complaint is that it's not *quite* quiet enough to leave on next to your bed while you sleep, but then i'm a pretty light sleeper!

Cool-n-Save System Review

Cool-n-Save System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I installed the Cool-n-Save in our house in June and have seen a reducton in our power consumption over last year. It's a great idea - cool the air around your AC unit so it works less or when it gets really hot helps the ac keep up with the heat.

I have had to clean the misting nozzles as clogged up from the hard water here, so take a look at the unit every few weeks. For a $100 is seems like a great investment . Cool-n-Save System

Cool-n-Save System
This years best new Green product is the Cool-n-Save as previewed on Living with Ed on the Planet Green channel.
The Cool-n-Save system attaches to the top of most freestanding home air conditioning units and is activated when the AC unit turns on. Hot air from the condenser units fan raises the flap on the patented Cool-n-Save control valve allowing water to flow to the misters that surround the AC unit (approx 1.2 gallons/hr). When the ultra-fine mist is released into the air, it evaporates almost instantly creating what is known as Flash Evaporation, which literally takes the heat out of the air as the water absorbs the energy it needs to evaporate. The result is a substantial drop in ambient temperature without wetness up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The Cool-N-Save system comes to you with everything you need to start saving money today. The system helps keep your AC system in peak operating condition.
Includes:
1 x Cool-n-Save Control valve,

Rainbow Vacuum E-2 Type 12 2-Speed Review

Rainbow Vacuum E-2 Type 12 2-Speed
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My main problem with the Rainbow is how it it sold. You have to let the salesperson into your home and they have that darn referral program. But with all that it can do, you really need a presentation. We bought our Rainbow on the spot and have never regretted that decision. We have 2 big, shedding dogs.I have bought the most privey Hoovers and Bissels but none would get rid of that dog smell or fur.The Rainbow purifies the air (also deodorises) as it vacuums.Powerful suction allows you to clean fans, blinds etc. effortlessly. We also have the carpet and floor cleaner.Although more cumbersome than an upright, it does a better job than others that I have tried - even the commercial Rug Doctors. This machine is not for people looking for ease of use.But if you want deep down cleaning, nothing else compares.Tip:when emptying out the canister, sift it so that only the dirty water goes into the toilet.Dump the rest of the clumped dirt and hair into a trash can.We bought our whole system for $1800 and it is still doing a wonderful job.You can also use the Rainbow to blow inflatable pools up and as a small wetvac.

Product Description:
If you've never used a Rainbow, you're in for a shock. With regular upright bag vacuums, dust particles escape through the pinpoint size holes in the bags. The water canister that sits under the Rainbow actually traps dirt, dust, etc. in the water as you vacuum. You actually see the water getting darker and darker. You can vacuum everyday with a regular bag vacuum cleaner and still not get your carpet as clean as you can with one pass of the Rainbow!

Downspout diverter for rain barrels -Generic-Works with any brand -Includes 23" connection hose. Review

Downspout diverter for rain barrels -Generic-Works with any brand -Includes 23' connection hose.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are several products available on the market but I ended up buying this one. We purchased one of those 'flat back' heavy plastic rain barrels for water collection which has a screened rectangular opening on the top and nubs on the side. The side nubs are for use with a downspout diverter such as this one. You simply cut the end off of ONE of the nubs to allow water to flow into the barrel through it #the second nub is for connecting additional rain barrels in series#.

Installation of the diverter was simple. They say to make the first cut in the downspout #used a hacksaw# at the level where the lower port of the diverter is at the same level as the 'nub' on the rain barrel. This allows the rainwater to flow into the barrel up to that level but then it is diverted back to the downspout after that. The second cut in teh downspout is made 1.5 inches above the first cut and the diverter is inserted here. Inserting the diverter was a little tricky. It required pulling back the two sections of downspout, inserting the diverter in between them and pushing the two sections back to their original position. The diverter accomodates either 3X4" or 2X3" downspouts very effectively and there is a top and bottom cap if you have a 2X3 that makes the final look very neat and avoids the splashing that was mentioned in the review of a competitor's diverter. Once the diverter was in place, I secured the downspout with the original mounting bracket that I loosened before to allow me to pull the sections away from the wall of the house.

The product comes with a 20" black flexible hose that slips over the lower port (the upper port is factory sealed but the plastic obstruction can be pushed open to allow that port to function. It is threaded for use with a hose and also comes with a screw cap to keep it closed. I am not using the upper port). The other end of the black hose slips onto the 'nub' of the rain barrel. In our case, it was a loose fit so I secured it with a screw clamp available at any hardware store. That was it for the installation. It took about 20 minutes and only took that long because I had to work at getting the downspout to fit into the tight fitting connectors of the diverter.

How does it work? Great! We had a pretty hefty down pour that evening (1.25" of rain over about 30-45 minutes) and were able to fill up the barrel. In the heaviest part of the rain, the water was literally 'shooting' into the barrel through the nub in the side that is connected to the black hose.

The product is constructed of heavy white plastic, comes with instructions, a 20" black flexible hose, a screw cap for the upper port and a plastic cap for the lower port (for the winter season if you have to take the barrel 'off-line'). While I have never used any other diverter, I can highly recommend this one since it is well made, inexpensive and works very well.

Bissell Big Green Complete Home-Cleaning System, 7700 Review

Bissell Big Green Complete Home-Cleaning System, 7700
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really excited about this because of the multi-function use. At the same time, I was skeptical. Our little dog likes to pee in small places on the carpet, so we needed good carpet cleaner that would deep clean these areas.

The carpet cleaner works very well. Both the large cleaner extension and the handheld spray and suction the water, which most others do not do. It was a decision between this and the Hoover Agility. The Agility does not seem to have a sprayer on the extension hose.

When it comes to the vacuum, it's not that great. The suction is only good enough for area rugs. The carpet extension has a air powered brush that stops working on normal carpet and it only cleans the top surface debris.

So, if you want something for hardwood and deep carpet cleaning this is great. Just don't try to replace a regular vacuum cleaning with this.

Product Description:
For a thoroughly clean home without all the space-consuming equipment, this thoughtfully designed cleaner functions as three units in one. It vacuums carpets, floors, and hard-to-reach areas; deep cleans carpets and upholstery; and washes sealed hard-floor surfaces. Not bad for a unit that takes up just over 2 square feet of floor space. The versatile cleaner provides easy-to-use push-button controls, bagless technology, and a 1-2/7-gallon tank capacity. When in deep-cleaning mode, its built-in heater quickly heats hot tap water up to 25 degrees hotter for enhanced results. On-board vacuum tools include a multi-surface floor tool, an air-powered floor TurboBrush, a 5-inch brush, a crevice tool, and a dust brush, as well as a carpet deep-cleaning tool, a drain cleaner, a 4-inch upholstery tool, and a hard-floor tool. The hard-floor tool uses a washable micro-fiber pad that helps lift and remove dirt from tile, vinyl, laminates, and sealed hardwood surfaces.
Even more, the home-cleaning system features three-stage filtration. Its water filtration captures large debris and dust, the washable foam filter captures fine particles, and the HEPA media filter cleans and filters the air. Other highlights include a quick-release cord wrap, a quick-release hose door, an 8-foot upholstery hose, and an 18-foot power cord, along with Microban antimicrobial protection, which fights the growth of odor causing bacteria, mold, and mildew in the machine, keeping it cleaner and fresher between uses. Additional items include a 16-ounce bottle of Fiber Cleansing Formula, an 8-ounce bottle of Hard Floor Solutions, a mesh bag, and two hard-floor micro-fiber pads. The home-cleaning system measures 13 by 24 by 54-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Rainbow eSeries Vacuum 1 Speed e Series Review

Rainbow eSeries Vacuum 1 Speed e Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
-When you use a conventional vacuum cleaner, you see dust blown all over especially if you look with the sun rays streaming through your window. You see a much big difference using this vac. One of our sons have bad allergies and this helps a lot.
-You not only see the difference, you also feel that you are breathing much cleaner air.
-No expensive bags to buy

Cons:
-It is heavy as a bulldozer. Imagine hauling it up and down the stairs. This is the reason we use this vac not as often as our other regular vac. My wife has to call me to help tugging it along.
-Price - too much! We got it half price, but probably we still paid too much.
-Maneuverability. Annoying and it really needs some muscle to work with it.
-You also need to clean the vacuum every single time you use it. No, you cannot wait until the bag is full - there is no bag. It has a canister that you fill halfway with water and if you do not clean after each use, it grows bacteria and smells like a dead skunk. Believe me, we have done that.
-It is a hassle to use. Need assembly every time you use it.
-So loud

Tersano lotus LBU100 Sanitizing System Review

Tersano lotus LBU100 Sanitizing System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a physician and a homemaker.I am always looking for safe, effective, easy ways to clean. This product has been the answer for me in the following ways:

1.)Washing fruits and vegetables. Now I am finally following Rachel Ray's advice to wash everything when I bring it home from the grocery store.I pile in as much as the bowl (included with the system) will hold and rinse it briefly under the faucet to remove loose dirt. Then I fill the bowl with cool tap water and place it on the base.As I write this, I am processing 5 avocados, 4 tomatoes, and 2 peaches in the bowl. The cleaning cycle takes about 4 minutes, then you leave the produce in the water for another two minutes. The base unit counts down the time so you know when you're done. Finally, I use the bowl's lid, which has a built-in strainer, to drain the bowl.

There are a number of advantages to this method of washing produce. For me, the most important one is that I know that the produce is truly clean when the final beeper goes off.In the past I was never sure when I could stop rinsing my produce. This method is also a time-saver, since I can wash quite a bit of produce in each batch, and I can do other things while it is processing.Washing the produce when I bring it home from the store also makes it last longer, because the bacteria which cause decay are destroyed.Additionally, when I drain the water from the bowl into my sink, the super-oxygenated water helps to sanitize the sink. Finally, I don't have to wash the bowl, because it is sanitized with each use.

2.)Sanitizing my kids' orthodontic retainers, and the family's various toothbrushes, nail clippers, nail files, etc.I use the bowl for this.I wish I had had this when my kids were babies, because according to the instruction book it can be used to sanitize pacifiers, baby toys, and other baby paraphernalia.

3.)Sanitizing my kids' shower shoes and gear when they get back from camp or a field trip.I use the spray bottle, which is included with the system, for this.First I rinse the gear in my utility sink or with the hose outside. Then I fill the spray bottle with cool tap water.I place the bottle on the base, and start the processing cycle which takes about 2 minutes. Then you have 15 minutes to use the super-oxygenated water, after which it starts to break down into oxygen and water. The base unit counts down the 15 minutes, so you know when your time is up.I spray everything and let it dry in the sun.

There are several advantages to this method of sanitizing gear over my old way of using bleach and other cleaners.First, it is extremely effective.Second, there is no residue left on the gear (again, the super-oxygenated water breaks down into oxygen and water), so there is no rinsing. And third, I do not have to wear gloves.

4.)Cleaning my refrigerator inside and out.I use the spray bottle for this.I especially love the fact that no residue is left in the refrigerator, and there is no odd cleaning-product smell either.

5.)Kitchen countertops, sink, and cabinets.I have an under-mounted sink, and the thought of all the bacteria growing in the space between the countertop and the sink used to really bother me.In the past, I would fill my sink with hot water and bleach, but now I use the spray bottle. It is quick and easy, requires no rinsing, and there is no bleach smell or concern about getting bleach on my clothes.Plus there is a strong environmental benefit to avoiding bleach and the plastic bottles that bleach comes in.

6.)Bathrooms.In the past I used cleaning products that smelled terrible and that warn you to only use them in a well-ventilated area.It made bathroom-cleaning a dreaded chore. Now I use the spray bottle, and the job is quick and easy.I live in Florida, where mold and mildew are a big problem in the bathroom. We have had a particular problem with mildew growing in the toilet tanks (up where the flush mechanism is). This has been difficult to keep under control in the past, because bleach damages the rubber portions of the flush mechanism. The super-oxygenated water has not caused any damage, but has been extremely effective against the mildew.

I like the fact that no residue is left behind on surfaces, and the bathroom is truly sanitized.I will also note that although I have arthritis in my hands, the spray bottle is easy to use.

Other reviewers have mentioned getting an error code when trying to use the Lotus system.I have also had error codes in two situations, but I figured out how to deal with them.

The first error code I have encountered occurs when there is no water in the base.During processing, water circulates between the base and the attachment you have chosen (either the bowl or the spray bottle).Between uses, clean water remains in the base unit. However, when you are first starting out, or if you have emptied the base unit, it takes time to get water into the base unit. This is when I have had an F4 error code.I remove the attachment, fill the blue reservoir on the base with water, and then put the empty bowl on the base unit.Using a large measuring cup, I pour cool tap water directly over the valve system in the bottom of the bowl to get water to go through the valve into the base. Then I turn on the processing cycle and see if it will go.If not, I repeat these steps until it does.Normally you do not have to worry about this, because clean water will be left in the base between uses.

The second situation where I have encountered an error code is when washing fruits that shed tiny seeds or hairs, such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and kiwi.I belive that there must be a sensor in the base that reads the water as dirty, and halts the processing.Even when I pre-rinsed these fruits, I still got an error code because you can't get rid of all the tiny seeds and hairs.I dealt with this situation by emptying the "dirty" water out of the base.Next, I get clean water into the base as described in the previous paragraph. Then I put clean water in the bowl and process it in the usual way.At the end of the processing cycle, I remove the bowl from the base and add the fruit to it.I let the fruit sit in there for two minutes before draining. This way, no seeds or hairs circulate through the base to create problems. This is actually the method that the instruction book suggests for meat, poultry, and seafood.

I highly recommend this product, and plan to give it to family members as Christmas gifts. Please note that I am not associated in any way with the company that makes this product.

Product Description:

The lotus system safely removes bacteria, viruses, and pesticides from food.

It also sanitizes children's toys, teethers, and pacifiers with ease.

Tap water treated with the lotus system cleans and sanitizes kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-risk surfaces and locations without harsh chemicals, fumes, or residue. Live Chemical Free with the lotus Sanitizing System

Take a step towards healthier living! This amazing Sanitizing System from Tersano lets you turn on your faucet and treat your home to an effective sanitizer that safely wipes out germs, odors, stains, mold, mildew and pesticides -- all without chemicals.
When you use lotus, you turn ordinary tap water into the world's most powerful sanitizer in about two minutes, for a fraction of a penny. Studies have shown that ozone is 50-percent more powerful and more than 3,000 times faster acting on bacteria than chlorine -- at 100 times the strength. Water treated with this system will kill 99.9 percent of germs on any surface it contacts.
Use the lotus to clean countertops, appliances, floors, high chairs and other baby items, upholstery, windows, cutting boards, and any surface that attracts mold or mildew. Even carpet and laundry stains -- including red wine and pet stains -- are easy to remove, with no harsh fumes or residue. Lotus also eliminates germs and pesticides from your food. It even extends the shelf life of fruit and produce up to four times longer than if they've been rinsed with tap water.

The lotus system can even be used to freshen and deodorize pet areas, or other potentially smelly places. How It Works

The system has two main purposes: (1). to disinfect surfaces and (2). to remove pesticides and kill germs on food. It does this using ordinary tap water.
The lotus patented Oxyshield technology infuses cold tap water with an extra oxygen atom, creating a natural sanitizer. By passing air through 4,500 volts of electricity, the lotus system splits oxygen molecules into atoms and forces this extra atom to combine and form super-oxygen, or ozone. The third oxygen atom becomes the sanitizing agent, a natural oxidant -- which kills bacteria and viruses, and neutralizes pesticides.
Using the lotus spray bottle, it takes about two to three minutes to turn tap water into antibacterial lotus water with 100-percent potential (this is indicated on the unit); and then it remains fully effective for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, the contents begin to revert to plain water. A countdown timer on the unit tells you when it's time to reload and recharge.
Once the tap water reaches its fully transformed potential (in about five minutes, if you're using the bowl), maximum bacteria and pesticide reduction is achieved after two minutes of soaking. That same helpful countdown timer tells you when your food is completely sanitized and cleansed of pesticide residues.
The lotus Sanitizing System was recognized as one of the Best Inventions of 2006 by Time Magazine. It was also recognized by Donny Deutsch as The Big Idea of the Month.
Key Technical Specs:

FDA and USDA approved for food sanitation

These extra bottles come in handy. I love my SodaStream and use it all the time. My only wish is that the bottles were dishwasher safe. Brita Riviera Water Pitcher Review

Brita Riviera Water Pitcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I lived in CA we had very hard water. I purchased a fairly expensive two-stage filtration system that mounted under the sink thinking this would be the greatest tasting water ever. I was wrong. The water still had a metallic taste. When I tried a Brita Pitcher I was extremely impressed. They are the only company that uses silver oxide pellets in the filter, which act as a water softener and work well with hard CA water. I've since moved to GA where the water is much softer, but these filters make such a noticable difference it is incredible. If you change the filter every 5 weeks or so you will be very happy with the results. I've been using the same pitcher for about 7 years now and it is still in great shape.

Product Description:
The Brita Filter's activated carbon and ion exchange resin work together to filter ordinary tap water and turn it into healthier, great tasting drinking water. The Riviera pitcher is NSF and Water Quality Association certified to reduce chlorine (taste and odor), copper, sediment, 98% lead, benzene, and more. A feature that sets the Riviera filtration pitcher apart from others is its SMART technology, a built-in electronic indicator automatically notifying users when to change the filter. For optimum performance, change the filter every 2 months or 40 gallons. Filter replacement is essential for the product to perform as represented. The filter change indicator contains a non-replaceable sealed battery designed to last 5 years, depending on usage. After 5 years the pitcher is still functional, but the electronic filter change indicator will eventually stop working. Designed with a 64-ounce capacity, this pitcher makes it easy to get the eight daily recommended 8-ounce glasses of water. Its streamlined body allows the pitcher to fit in most refrigerator side doors. Included in the box are the pitcher, a flip-top, easy-pour lid, and 1 filter. This model is available in a choice of colors to better accessorize with any kitchen decor.
