I gave it three stars because of quality of build and design. There were no usable instructions although something called instructions was in the box. The quality of the materials is sub-par, all plastic. I feel like I have to be very easy when moving the vacuum around for fear of breaking it. The hose is very cheap and kinks at the neck easily. The attachment storage was not really designed at all. There are no good placements for attachments or the hose.

It does vacuum well and the noise level is not bad. Next time I will get a true commercial vac, not one that has a marketing label on it that says "industrial".

Lindhaus Activa 30 Domestic 12" Red Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Lindhaus Activa 30 Domestic 12' Red Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned this vacuum for a couple of years now.Although it's expensive and not "fancy", we purchased it because our previous machines were never satisfactory. They either blew dirt back out the exhaust, were super noisy and/or heavy, and the cake was taken when a relatively new but just-out-of warranty machine needed repair and could not be fixed. The Lindhaus is very lightweight and easy to manuver, very quiet so others are not disturbed and children and pets are not afraid of the noise. It does not have a "headlight", but does have an indicator light that goes on when the bag is full and needs to be changed. It's easy to change the bag.The machine is repairable and though I have never needed this service, there are several vacuum stores in my area that can handle this brand. The only downside, I would say, is the bags seem a little more expensive, but I should add that I have not priced the bags of other brands lately.I would recommend this to anyone who wants a reliable machine and isn't overly impressed with bells, whistles and doo-dads.

Bissell Garage Pro Wet/Dry Vacuum, 18P0 Review

Bissell Garage Pro Wet/Dry Vacuum, 18P0

After I finished vacuuming all 4 of my cars, I vacuumed the garage! This is one convenient and easy to use garage vacuum. I can't believe the suction going through 30 feet of hose would be so strong. Everythign was easy to get set up too, it took about 5 minutes. I sure won't miss dragging the canister around when it's time to do cars (which I do weekly). The attachements will fit just about every need too. All in all, this is one good product!

Bissell Velocity Dual Cyclonic Upright Vacuum - 3950 Review

Bissell Velocity Dual Cyclonic Upright Vacuum - 3950
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
[...]
Now to be honest, this is a girly looking vacuum. It looks kinda purplish and two toned at that, in fact, Bissell calls it a Dark Cherry Fiz color. However, my wife liked the color, so that was a selling point for her. It also weighs considerably less than the Dirt Devil did, which was also a major selling point for both my wife and myself. (Yes, I do vacuum when nagged enough!)

So I brought it home, took it out of the box, and after 3 screws and 15 minutes later, the vacuum was put together. I found the assembly very easy to do, and the instructions quite straight forward.

Observations:
Right away I turned on the vacuum and found it very easy to maneuver. The adjustments for the floor height were easy to turn and it actually quieter than my Dirt Devil. All good things to me. Of course my wife and I took off the hose and tested the suction strength on each other, like the cheek, arm, and hair. Very impressive suction strength! Then my 2 yr. old son got upset because he thought that the vacuum was hurting us, so we stopped laughing and put the vacuum hose back.

I then vacuumed up a small patch of carpet in our spare bedroom, which I only use for my office, but right away my wife yelled at me to turn it off. She pointed out the amount of dust spiralling around the canister, which looked really cool! The cyclonic feature really works! There was a good amount of dust and debris already in the canister. We were both amazed at home much this vacuum had picked up, especially when this room had been vacuumed with the Dirt Devil just last week. Also, the carpet seemed to be fluffier. The 12 amps of power and extra wide 15 inch brush are very effective at cleaning our carpets.

I was also impressed with the fact that there are 2 filters on this vacuum. One just beneath the canister and a HEPA filter on the side of the vacuum where the air is returned to the room. Also both of these filters are very easy to find, remove, and replace. The canister also is very easy to remove, clean, and replace. A simple locking arm swings to one side to release the canister, then slides back to lock it in place.

There is also an indicator which changes colors based on the quality of air flow. If it is green, then things are well and air is moving freely. If it turns red then the airflow has become reduced, and if it turns black then there is something blocking the airflow completely. It is very easy to remove the entire hose, you just simply turn the hose on the back of the vacuum until it releases the hose, then you can clear away any blockages that might be in the way.

The hose is 14 feet long. However, I have not needed to use this feature as of yet, but it is very flexible and stretches easily. The Bissell Velocity Vacuum also comes complete with the dusting brush, TurboBrush, Curved Hose Wand, Extension Wand, and Crevice Tool. The power chord is extremely long at 35 feet, but can be a hassle when you only need a small amount of it for a smaller room. However, it is great when vacuuming a large room, or multiple rooms close to each other!

The TurboBrush also works great. I used it to vacuum off the stairs and my car. Again the 12 amps of suction strength is evident when the brush gets up to full speed. It really spins fast! I can even press it fairly strong into the carpet and it still spins.

There was mention that this vacuum seemed to tip over easily, and that is true. I tested this out on both carpet and bare floor. A good nudge or bump anywhere above the Turbo brush will send it falling backwards. Locking wheels would probably have helped in keeping this from happening. If you are going to be pulling on the hose to bring the vacuum closer to you, it is best to do this if the hose is attached to the handle at the bottom of the vacuum. However, I would not recommend this type of action.

Some people had issues with the power switch being on the front of the vacuum. This is not an issue for me. It is near enough the handle that it takes nothing to reach down and flip it off.

Conclusion
There isn't much about this vacuum that I don't like. It is lightweight, powerful, and easy to use. It is a little back heavy and can tip over fairly easily, and the power chord can be a nuisance because of its length, but those are minor problems.

For the money, you really can't go wrong with this vacuum. It will leave your carpets clean, fluffed, and your air filtered. What more can you ask for?

Dyson DC17 Total Clean Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC17 Total Clean Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ever since I starting hearing the hype from Dyson about their vacuums i've been skeptical. From an industrial design stand point they are works of art, however, the intended functionality remained in question.I've owned Hoover, Dirt Devil, Rainbow and Kirby. The Rainbow was the vacuum we had growing up and the water filtration really seemed to make sense. My stint with Kirby was a 30 day in home trial. The vacuum was amazing but I decided to save the $1800 I paid and buy something much less expensive (sub $100 believe it or not). That sub $100 vac was a Dirt Devil bag-less that frustrated me every time I used it.This time around I wanted to pay a little more for a good solid cleaning machine and after 3 weeks of research I narrowed by search to the following:
- Kirby
- Oreck
- Dyson
- Electrolux

After another week of research I narrowed it to Oreck and Dyson.Oreck has a really cool program where you pay for 25% of the vacuum up front and then make monthly payments no interest for 11 months on the balance. This makes it easy to pay for a more expensive vac over time.I was leaning toward the Oreck DutchTech 1400B canister vac.Oreck's top of the line. The total cost of the vac shipped was about $970.00.I had the vac in my shopping cart about 2 or 3 times over the course of a couple days but could never quite hit the purchase button. The main reason being I wasn't quite sure about pulling around a canister vac, the second was the price.I had seen refurbished Dyson's on [...] for $209 in the past and that was less than just the initial payment alone on the Oreck, not to mention another 11 months of about $70 per month...so I held off.Another week passed and I noticed [...] had a refurbished Dyson DC17 platinum blue for $237.00 shipped.I had researched this vac extensively and knew it had Dyson's newest Level 3 Root Cyclone technology for the purest separation and filtration of particles of all the Dyson vacs.I snatched it up figuring a $500.00 vac should be worth the purchase at less than half price.3 days later the Dyson arrived.Keep in mind that I have a house cleaner that comes every 2 weeks and cleans the house top to bottom so my place isn't dirty, the carpets are well kept and it's neat etc.The Dyson immediately had a field day with the carpets sucking up so much stuff that I had to wonder, did my old vacuum do anything at all???The Dirt Devil was immediately tossed in the trash. The Dyson sucked up so much stuff it made me sick to look at it!Every aspect of this machine is truly everything that Dyson claims it to be.Zero suction loss, extremely well built, very smooth sounding motor, extremely high speed brush roll, no non-sense, easy to use operation, ingeniously designed attachments and tools, simple, smart operation and enough suction to pull your carpets from the floor boards! The Kirby was an amazing machine from two standpoints.Suction and construction. If I were in a vacuum demolition derby i'd take the Kirby any day of the week, it's all steel and built like a tank.As far as suction goes, the two are as equal as you can measure without scientific equipment. My Dyson actually fell down about 8 stairs tonight as I was vacuuming the stairs and not one part broke, it kept on sucking so it's not brittle or prone to breakage under normal conditions. One thing I never liked about ANY of the vacuums i've owned is the smell you get when using them. They all just have that yucky dusty vacuum smell. The Dyson claims that stated the air the Dyson outputs is cleaner than the air it took in always seemed ludicrous to me.How could that be?I'm finally a believer.I'm not sure if it's the filter in the Dyson or if there's some sort of smell pack in there? If there is it's certainly not stated, but the air the Dyson outputs smells very good and is just....I guess fresh. It's hard to explain but it does seem to eliminate any odors that may have been in the air before vacuuming. It's pretty amazing...my best guess is that it does filter the air to be cleaner than it was before it got sucked it.Absolutely amazing.

One thing I have to mention is the Dyson mini turbine head.I purchased this separately. It retails at most places for $69.99 but I got it at Fry's for $49.99.I was VERY skeptical about this and figured i'd be returning it the next day.If you've ever used a non powered brush roll (suction powered) you know that most of them stop the moment they touch carpet or anything for that matter. There is simply no torque to turn the brushes.Even my Kirby had an air powered attachment that spun brushes that weren't good for anything.I couldn't fathom how the Dyson could be any different but I figured i'd give it a shot.I thought well, as the company slogan goes, maybe Dyson is different? One word.Unbelievable!!!The Dyson mini turbine head is nothing sort of a remarkable piece of engineering. There is a tiny turbine that spins insanely fast from the suction and it must be geared just right.Honestly, the brush roll is actually hard to stop and it keeps spinning as it brushes the carpet. It is possible to stop with your hand but not without some very firm pressure.Even then once stopped, you can feel the torque attempting to spin the brush roll.If you were blindfolded you'd swear it was electric motor powered...it's honestly THAT GOOD.Combined with the pull out handle that extends into a full 3' cleaning wand with 17' hose coil, the upright now essentially becomes a canister vac and you no longer have to bend down at all to clean stairs or vacuum a small patch of carpet or hard to reach areas. The ergonomics and usability are world class.

If I knew long ago what I know about owning a Dyson now, I would have paid full price for the machine ($500) and felt like I was getting a good deal. This vacuum is worth $1000...$2000 dollars. It's simply an amazing cleaning machine that definitely needs to be classed up there with the Oreck and Kirby ultimate cleaning machines of the world.Way to go Dyson, you've made a customer for life.

When my husband requested a wet dry vac for Christmas I was a bit panic stricken as I know nothing about choosing that sort of product. After a little research I selected this item and hoped for the best. My husband who runs a plumbing and heating company has said this product has saved the day more then once. It's great for cleaning up debris after a dirty job. His comments are that it has lots of power and suction, a good selection of attachments and it is very quiet. A great, reliable product at a good price. We recommend it.

Dirt Devil BD10165 Gator Energy-Star 15.6-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner with Detachable Brushroll Review

Dirt Devil BD10165 Gator Energy-Star 15.6-Volt Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner with Detachable Brushroll
Average Reviews:

After an issue with our Shark pet hand vac not being able to charge anymore, we found this. I am not particularly fond of the color red in general and we all know DD's are a very bright, blinding red. I have used it before the 24 hour charge period, and naturally it began to die on me. Why its not almost fully charged already concerns me, to say the least. I do not recall receiving the brush attachment with the product.

Pros:

It seems to pick up nicely and have good suction power for the price.

The filter is washable and so is the dirt cup.

The charging port is on the back of the handle, not on the underside like other products.. This is much more convenient.
__________________________________________________

Cons:

Takes a long time to charge
The dirt cup is small, but this isn't really a big deal for me because when I'm cleaning I always keep a large trash can or trash bag with me at all times and can empty it frequently. This could however, be a problem for others.

The bright red color is hideous, but that's what Dirt Devil makes their products in.That gray tight corners tool that comes out doesn't stay out. You have to manually hold it out or it will pop back in for no reason. I don't particularly like the fact that this tool is put in there like that.. Its very inconvenient when you're cleaning and it goes in and out, in and out.

The top that you empty by pressing the two silver side buttons doesn't always latch down and it happened to open mid cleaning and spill its contents all over the stairs on me.. Nice.

Its big and bulky and definitely not user friendly. I prefer the skinnier vacuums.

Product Description:
With 15-3/5 volts of powerful suction and a cordless design for effortless maneuverability, this handheld vacuum cleaner works great for on-the-go pickups and fast cleaning of every day messes and dry spills. Use it for everything from soccer-cleat dirt by the front door to cereal crunching under foot in the kitchen. The unit's built-in crevice tool cleans hard-to-reach areas like between couch cushions and along baseboards, while its power brushroll attaches easily for cleaning pet hair off carpets, stairs, and furniture or car seats. Even more, the handheld vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a transparent, easy-empty dirt cup, which means no expensive bags to buy. Simply press both dirt-cup release buttons to flip open the lid, empty the dirt and debris into a waste receptacle, close the lid, and it's ready to go--no removable parts, no mess, and no need to get hands dirty. Other highlights include a thumb-activated on/off button, a comfortable D-shaped handle, a 2-1/4-inch-wide nozzle, a reusable filter that rinses clean, and lightweight construction at about 3-6/7 pounds. A charger comes included (24 hours for a full charge). Best of all, the vacuum's smart charging technology has earned an Energy Star rating, which means it meets strict energy-efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I don't know what the deal is with the first reviewer. This product is great.I purchased the "max" PoolBuster two years ago.My only problem is that last year the battery would not take a charge.WaterTech (the manufacturer) replaced the whole unit... and had the replacement to me within days of sending them the old unit.
Bottom line is that the PoolBuster is a real work saver... you can vacuum a pool like mine (16 x 32 inground) in about 20 minutes without getting out the vacuum hose and having to backwash after vacuuming.Only thing you should buy is the extra fine collection bag for vacumming find debris.

Dirt Devil Dynamite Plus Upright Vacuum Review

Dirt Devil Dynamite Plus Upright Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this vacuum for thirty bucks so keep that in mind. There are units out there that cost ten times that. So how does the Dynamite Plus stack up?It sucks!Very, very well.I don't think I have ever used a vaccum that had such powerful suction. I bought a Dirt Devil cordless unit (the one that no one seems to like) about a year ago and it was garbage. I wondered if anyone really needed cordless while in the confines of their own home. Most likely not. Why not trade the dubious benefits of cordless for maximum sucking power? For the price there is proably no vacuum made that is more powerful. So why only 4 stars? Despite a vacuum that seems well built, convenient, light, bagless, portable, etc., there is one thing that is insanely ridiculous about the Dynamite Plus' design. All of that powerful suckiing power shoots right out a front grill of the vacuum.Like a tornado!!!!The first time I used it was in the kitchen it it literally blew all of the photos and notes off my refrigerator. The next time bordered on slapstick comedy if I could have considered it funny. I was vacuuming the hearth of my fireplace and the tornado-like exhaust fan blew ashes from the fireplace all over my living room!!!Who in their right mind would design a vacuum with a jet engine strong exhaust fan right in front pointing at the very dust and dirt you are going to vacuum?Final thought ... the plastic recepticle fills up very fast. I vacuumed what I thought was a clean tile floor in the kitchen and the dirt container was full. I emptied it and vacuumed my staircase and the dirt bag was full.Is this a bad thing? How can it be? The Dynamite Plus is sucking in dirt that I didn't even know existed. That's the whole reason I vacuum. So I would rate this as the best bargain of any vacuum I have ever seen except for that silly design flaw. It's not at all a reason to not purchase this vacuum. You just have to know how to avoid pointing it at things like fireplace ashes. Bottom line is I have never owned a vacuum with as much suction. This thing is dirt cheap for what it does.

Hoover Uh70085 Pet Cyclonic™ Upright Vacuum Review

Hoover Uh70085 Pet Cyclonicâ„¢ Upright Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This vacuum walks circles around my 10-year-old Hoover Windtunnel bagged vacuum. If you have kids and pets, you vacuum daily like I do. My home is small and so is my budget, so this affordable model covers all the bases for me. Emptying the collection bin is a bit messy, but it is worth it to me to never have to purchase bags again. I empty it into a closed grocery bag, and I'm sure I'll get better at this over time. With a lot of cat hair to pick up that has been left behind by my old vacuum, I have had to brush off the filter several times, again, not a big deal to me. The hose is sturdy and long, and the cord rewind feature is a plus. I like the fact that the beater does not run when the vacuum is in the upright position, and has an on-off switch for hard floors. It does make a squeaking noise when stopping and starting, which troubles me a bit. I only gave this product 4 stars for now, but will update after owning for a few more months.

Dirt Devil 08225 Scorpion Quick-Flip Turbo Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dirt Devil 08225 Scorpion Quick-Flip Turbo Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a powerful vacuum. It sucks dust and hair out of my carpet, crumbs too. It's small & convenient, I will probably use this more often than use a bulky vacuum.

Keep in mind that this vacuum is design for vacuuming a small area not the whole house because the sucking hole is small and it's handheld. This little machine can not last vacuuming the whole house without overheating.

I give it 4 stars because emptying the dirt cup is hell. It's bagless so you have to open it to empty. When you open it, dirt splashes everywhere. I find that all handheld vacuums are bagless. They got to think of a better way to empty it.

With its powerful 7 amp motor and easy-to-maneuver design, this handheld vacuum cleaner works great for on-the-go pickups and fast cleaning of every day messes and dry spills. The unit's on-board Quick Flip crevice tool cleans hard-to-reach areas like between couch cushions and along baseboards, while its removable, turbo brush nozzle effectively lifts and traps embedded dirt and stubborn pet hair from all types of surfaces. Other attachments include a 30-inch blow-molded hose, an upholstery brush, and a shoulder strap for comfortable transport. Even more, the cleaner's easy-to-empty bagless dirt cup keeps hands away from dirt, while its standard filtration helps deliver cleaner air exhaust. Other details include a 1-1/2-inch-wide nozzle, a long 16-foot power cord, and lightweight construction at just under 3-1/4 pounds. The handheld vacuum cleaner measures approximately 14 by 4-1/2 by 5 inches.

Bissell DigiPro Canister Vacuum, 6900 Review

Bissell DigiPro Canister Vacuum, 6900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a big fan of canister vacuums, and when my old one recently broke I turned to Amazon to research all the latest models. I decided to buy the DigiPro because of the many features it offered for a great price. I am pleased to report that it performs better than I expected, and I was happy with my old one so I expected quite a bit. I like how it allows me to control the amount of suction power, the adjustments for various carpet heights/hard floors, and the ability to turn on/off the brushes. It has washable HEPA filters so there are no expensive filters to replace and it even has a light that comes on when it is time to change the bag. The cord has a push button retractor so the cord rewinds itself and stores out of the way.
I have 3 kids, 1 dog, and 1 cat, so needless to say I have plenty to clean up. It's nice knowing that tucked away in the closet is a great vacuum that can help me tackle any mess. This vacuum is definitely worthy of a 5 star review.

Bissell Momentum Upright Vacuum, Bagless, 82G71 Review

Bissell Momentum Upright Vacuum, Bagless, 82G71
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We were fed up with our top-of-the-line Kenmore vacuum, which we bought in the hopes that a more expensive machine would also be more effective than the previous Hoovers and Eurekas that we suffered with. But that expensive monster was a nightmare from day one till the very end...and we decided that it might be better for us to buy a cheaper machine and replace it every year. We got recommendations from friends of ours to try out Bissell vacuum, and reviews on Amazon pointed us to this line of vacuums. We couldn't wait for it to be shipped to us, so we went to Target and found it on sale for $89. Yay!

Came home, took it out of the box, and discovered that the hose had to be attached, which was a bit of a challenge to the men of our household ;) But after that, it was good to go. And boy, does it ever go!!! It sucks stuff right out of the carpet, tends to take out a good bit of lint too, and the dust cup got filled very fast the first couple times we vacuumed our house. I think we had to empty the cup a few times the first time we vacuumed! So, that was very rewarding.

It's been a few months now that we've had this machine, and it's still behaving itself. The only thing that seems a bit weak is the hose, which got twisted out of shape at the head end, but we can live with that. It still has the same suction power, and doesn't cause us any undue grief, and if it does, I believe the hose is easy to replace.

The dust cup is nice...I was wary of going the bag-less route, but the convenience of this surprised me pleasantly. Empty the cup into a grocery bag once the dust has settled (we do it before we run it again, rather than after a vacuum session) so that dust does not rise up in a soft cloud. There is an indicator light which tells you when the machine is not at its optimum suctioning power, and this is beyond useful! Wash your filter when the indicator goes to red, and you'll be back to normal.

The 35 (or 40?) foot cord is very nice. Make sure you do not get it trapped underneath the brush, as the cord's outer coating will get worn off; you will be an unhappy person when that happens! (A bit of electrical tape will take care of it when it happens, though.)

I took off one star because of the somewhat weakly-constructed hose, and the fact that the brushes can't be turned off when using the attachments or doing bare floors.

Happy vacuuming!

Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF 13 Amp 4-Horsepower Canister Vacuum with Quadruple Hepa Filtration and Electric Power Nozzle Review

Metropolitan Professionals ADM-4PNHSF 13 Amp 4-Horsepower Canister Vacuum with Quadruple Hepa Filtration and Electric Power Nozzle

UPDATE: WOULD REDUCE TO 2 STARS. At no charge, the manufacturer sent a replacement cover to correct the broken rivet. The customer service was good. They suggested bending the wheel into place to straighten the Now, however, 17 months after purchase, the electric power nozzle does not turn on. This follows on several weeks of the nozzle turning on and off intermittently. Now I wish I had purchased the vacuum from a physical store with a buyer protection program. My new strategy is to buy cheap vacuums on a buyer protection plan and get the broken parts replaced. This was way too expensive for the grief.

ORIGINAL: I bought this because I was tired of the expensive, plastic vacuums falling apart within the first year of use. While this vacuum is incredibly powerful (indeed it sucks the area rugs right off the floor) it's not the indestructible stainless steel canister vacuum of my childhood. Within the first 4 months a rivet broke loose from the canister, making it impossible to close the vacuum. I tape it shut for use now. One wheel drags as well, leaving long black scuff marks on my white floors. I'm underwhelmed, but perhaps the manufacturer will make good on the warranty.

Metropolitan Vacuum Cleaner Co., Inc.: Committed to the American Dream
In December of 1939, Hyman Gulker pawned his pocket watch and gave $50 to his daughter and son-in-law, Pearl and Israel Stern. That was the beginning of Metropolitan Vacuum Cleaner Company, the family's American Dream.
Before he founded Metro, Israel sold vacuum cleaners door to door. He was such a great salesman, in fact, that the president of the last company he worked for offered him $100 to come back into the fold. To the president's great disappointment, however, Israel's wife had the last word. She said, "Nothing doing. We're on our own now!"
Since the day those fateful words were spoken, the Metropolitan Vacuum Cleaner Co., Inc. has grown from a small retail store in Bronx, NY, that sold and repaired vacuum cleaners into a multidivisional corporation with an ever-expanding range of products.
What's in the Box
ADM-4PNHSF canister vacuum; storage halo cord; seven-inch power conductive flexible hose; four chrome/steel extension wands (two with locks); electric power nozzle; crevice tool; fabric tool; dust brush; floor/wall brush; three disposable bags; and two charcoal foam filters.
