Hamilton Beach 4 Cup Coffee Brewer Review

Hamilton Beach 4 Cup Coffee Brewer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My old 4-cup Mr. Coffee was a decent little coffeemaker and it lasted for about three years before it started to give me trouble. Technically it still works but the coffee it brews is only warm, not hot.So I decided it was time for a new machine.

I did a lot of research, and the fact of the matter is that there just aren't many good quality 4-cup coffeemakers on the market.I researched the models from Mr. Coffee, Cuisinart, and Black & Decker, and none of them got particularly good reviews.I went to local stores and played with the display models and all of them felt very light, flimsy, and cheap.Even the $40 Cuisinart was featherweight and felt like it would fall apart at any moment.

I've always had good luck with Hamilton Beach products, so when I found this one online, I had a good feeling about it.I did some more research and found that this particular model is used in hotels all over the country. That seemed like a good sign.Commercial grade products are usually built to a higher standard than consumer grade stuff.

So I ordered it, and sure enough, it's a major step above the 4-cup machines made by the other manufacturers.Even though it's made mostly of plastic, it is heavy and stable and definitely won't tip over easily. The power cord is heavy grade and has a 3-prong plug. The on/off switch has a nice spring action and seems durable.

Due to the fact that these are made for hotel rooms, there are picture-based instructions in white ink on top of the coffeemaker. If you are very concerned about appearances, this might bother you.It doesn't bother me.The #1 thing I'm concerned about is how the coffee tastes... and with that in mind...

It tastes great! It's very hot, much hotter than my old Mr. Coffee. But the water isn't TOO hot, so you don't need to worry about it making the coffee bitter and over-extracted.

I only have two complaints, and they are relatively minor: when you're finished brewing coffee and you open the basket holder to remove the grounds and filter, a small amount of water falls out and splashes onto the warming plate and onto the counter. It's not a huge amount of water -- maybe a teaspoon -- but it does do this every time I brew coffee.Just something to be aware of; have a paper towel handy and it's not a problem. My other complaint is that there is no way of knowing how much water is in the reservoir. Usually they have a little window or some other indicator, but this unit doesn't have either. Mildly annoying, but not a huge issue and obviously doesn't affect the coffee itself.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this coffeemaker and would recommend it to anyone who is searching for a good quality 4-cup machine.

It is the size I wanted. Great design. Attractive and compact. I wanted a break resistant carafe (so my kids can do the dishes). The carafe is well built and is lightweight. I too was concerned that it is not a thermal insulated carafe but it turns out that is not needed since it sits on a "Keep Hot" warming plate. Though it is not listed on the outside of the box, it does indeed automatically shut off after 2 hours as described in the instructions. The clock and programmable timer are simple to set up. Best of all it brews hot delicious coffee!

Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier with TiO2 and UV light Review

Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier with TiO2 and UV light
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am currently using this in an apartment sized bathroom. The bathroom has no ventilation or even AC so all the moisture just sits in there. It always smelled dank and musty in there, no matter what cleaning products I would use or deodorizers I'd setup in there. Within 24 hours of setting this little guy up(Sits on my bathroom sink countertop.) The smell was gone and it already had well over a cup of water in the tank. It also comes with a thin clear drain hose that allows it to run continuously without having to empty the tank. It has been running for about 2 months now without a single problem.

I only can see a few issues with this device.

1. To me it is loud. Very loud. While this isn't a problem for me due to where it is at, if you are looking to put this somewhere where you need or want quiet like a bedroom, I'd try to find something else. preferably fan-less if possible. (I can drown it out very easily with all the entertainment electronics I run throughout the apartment, but I could imagine it being a problem for someone trying to sleep with this thing running in the same room.

2. I don't care for the tank design. The one time I tried to empty the tank I spilled a good amount of the water into the machine just trying to pull the tank out. So I'd same make sure it's unplugged before emptying the tank. Also the hose comes off easily when I move the unit around which leads to another problem I have with the design. The hose connects to the very top of the tank, meaning the tank has to be full before it starts to drain through the hose. I can see why they did it this way but I would have preferred an option to go without a tank at all.

Of course they are just minor gripes to me. The product does its job well and I have yet to find anything else even close price-wise that can compete.

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier Review

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis. To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems. The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".

This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate. The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly.I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom. My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating. The product loses one star for that.

I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

Sunpentown SD-350TI Mini Dehumidifier with UV Light and TiO2 Review

Sunpentown SD-350TI Mini Dehumidifier with UV Light and TiO2

I bought two mini dehumidifier at once, this one and the Eva-dry EDV-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier.Hands down, the Eva-dry out performs this! They are about 7' apart, but yet the Eva dry can pull out about 8oz of water every 3 days, compared to the 2 tblsp or so this device does.

However, this device is much quieter than the Eva-dry.

As for the UV light, is it really necessary?Better yet...does it really even work?I wouldnt know....

Shipping was prompt from the company.

The dehumidifier uses Peltier (thermo-electric) technology, which means whisper-quiet operation with no noisy compressor, vibration, or refrigerant to deal with. Water collects in the 2-liter transparent water tank, and the unit automatically switches off when the water tank needs to be emptied. Even more, it comes equipped with UV light and TiO2 mesh, which work together to eliminate germs and bacteria. Zojirushi EC-DAC50 Zutto 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker Review

Zojirushi EC-DAC50 Zutto 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had never heard of Zojirushi before but I was being very picky, holding out for a coffeemaker that makes 4-6 "cups" (aka two mugs,) uses a cone-bottom filter, and isn't black or white. This is the ONLY coffe maker - on Earth, apparently - that met all my criteria. (OK I still would have liked it better if it came in red, but the soft gray color is kind of classy!)And I have to say I'm really pleased with it.The design is simple and elegant and the removable water reservoir is a great convenience; I don't have to pull the whole coffee maker out from under the overhanging cabinets to get enough room to put the water in.

It also makes really good coffee, mainly because of the cone-bottom filter (I'll never go back to flat-bottom filters!)And the built in carbon filter makes more of a difference than I had expected.

OK some reviewers below were on about how it doesn't make coffee "hot enough" and I was like, bonus!I still don't understand how the rest of the human race can drink hot coffee straight from the pot without scalding their tongues.I was really looking forward to being able to drink coffee without having to put an ice cube in the cup first.(To be fair, I do drink it black.)I was so confident about this due to the "not hot enough" reviews that when I poured my first cup, I just took a great big sip - and scalded my tongue.Argh!!Maybe it's just that the warming plate doesn't keep coffee at boiling temperature, but it shouldn't: that would ruin the flavor of the coffee (and I've had a few cheap coffee makers that did scorch the coffee in a very short time.)

Anyway if you are the sole coffee drinker in your home and you like GOOD coffee, and you don't dig the flavor-limitations or wastefulness of those pod-based things, this is a perfect coffee-maker for you.(And if they ever make it in Red, I'll be the first in line!)

Eureka 431F Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Eureka 431F Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You can just feel the amount of air getting sucked through this thing.Although small, it's got a very effective 12amp motor, and still fits under a shelf in the closet with our board games. It's simple, sturdy and functional.

My wife and I were going to register for a Dyson, but when we played with one at Macy's it felt rickety. We were really surprised as we'd heard nothing but great things about them. But we decided we couldn't blow $400 on a big, plastic monstrosity.I'm sure they're really great, but our modest 900sq' just don't need the BMW of vacuums.

In particular I like the handle.Looks weird, but it's perfect. The hose only comes with two attachments; that's all you need, and the hose itself is just long enough. The brush height is automatically adjusting. The power switch is a simple three-position switch that goes: off / motor / motor and brush. And the dust catch and filter are easy enough to remove and empty.

A Dyson may very well last forever, but I could buy six of these, which would still be half the weight of the smallest Dyson and easier to hide away.

Happy housekeeping.

Bialetti Mukka Express Cappuccino Maker Review

Bialetti Mukka Express Cappuccino Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really excited to get this new product and I tried it right way. The first time I used it, I put the flame on too high and not only did I get milk everywhere (which I should have known from heating up milk and cream when making bechemel sauce or yogurt, milk goes EVERYWHERE when overheated) but water leaked as well.

I can't tell how many times I've used it since (sometimes twice or three pots a day) and I haven't had a problem with it at all. My guests love it as well. If the flame is medium, it doesn't leak. As soon as I hear the milk or cream frothing, I take it off the stove and put it on the sink (just in case, but it hasn't overflowed over since that first time I used it).

It's superfast, and it's supereasy to clean. This little product is saving me lots of money because I no longer desire to buy Cappuccino from Starbucks.

My only complaint about this product is that it has a two-cup capacity. That would be a two-espresso-cup capacity. So if you buy this product don't think it will make 16oz. And keep the flame low-medium. And take it off the heat when the milk starts frothing :)

Black & Decker DCM675BF 5-Cup Drip Coffee Programmable Maker with Permanent Filter Review

Black & Decker DCM675BF 5-Cup Drip Coffee Programmable Maker with Permanent Filter
Average Reviews:

This was a replacement coffee maker for a 4 cup MR. Coffee that stopped working. The best feature is it makes 5 cups, so if you are using a larger mug you can get 2 full servings with each pot. The timer is easy to operate and works perfectly. I never used a steel mesh reusable coffee filter before but it works surprisingly well, but it adds one more thing to wash. Even finely ground coffee does not pass through the reusable filter. Paper coffee filters can be used as well. It can be purchased at Linen-n-Things for $15 with their 20% off coupons. A steal-of-a-deal at that price. The only negative about Black & Decker products is replacement parts (glass pot, filter) are generally not available at retail stores and sometimes they have limited availability since models come and go quickly. But for the price of this unit a complete replacement is less than a couple cups of coffee at Starbucks.

Travel Brita 1 Pint Review

Travel Brita 1 Pint
Average Reviews:

I travel several times a year and this great idea works very well at the airports. Once you get through security...the x-ray security techs do look at the Travel Brita as some kind of security issue, but after you explain to them what it is, they are fine with it. After all the hoopla, you are ready to fill your Travel Brita at any water fountain or even in the bathroom sink. Once filtered, you can pour the filtered water into your own empty water bottle and save up to $4 a bottle for drinkable great tasting water. It is a minor inconvenience but well worth it when you consider the price of bottled water in the kiosks and restarants!I also used the Travel Brita at the hotel. The tap water was awful, like the airport water. I recommend changing the filter after 3 weeks of airport/hotel use. It seems the filter does break down at some point there after and the metal and awful taste returns after being filtered with the old filter.
