(More customer reviews)I've been using this dehumidifier for about 2 weeks now.I guess it is a brand new model for this year and that is why I am the first review.I figured that last years model had good reviews so this years model can't be too bad.Plus I've had great luck with our 16 year old Frigidaire refrigerator so they must know compressors well.

Unit was boxed very well and packaged acceptally from Amazon.You cut the plastic straps off and lift off the box exterior from the base.You can then pick up the unit from the handle on top.It is a plastic handle but doesn't feel fragile when you lift it.It is pretty heavy, but wasn't a problem for me to carry downstairs to my garage.

Setup was easy if I remember correctly.Just pull off some tape in a couple of places and plug in the cord.I had it run on continuous for several days but have now dropped it down to keeping it at 35 or 40 percent.It has digital pushbutton controls which I haven't really explored too much.There is a 2 digit numeric display which I think shows the set value and after a moment the current humidity that it is seeing.I'd have to check the manual on that for sure though.That is the way it acted.

I current have it in a garage that is not very warm.It has been into the upper 30's and 40's there the past couple of weeks.I needed this dehumidifier out there to keep a bunch of woodworking tools from rusting.I drive the car into the garage and all of the snow drips off of it and onto the concrete.I was worried about the humidity level in there even in the winter.The equipment I have out there is worth too much to have it rust!

It is really sucking the moisture out of the air though.After about 5 days of running, I had a full bucket.It holds a lot of water.The bucket is easy to remove from the unit.It has a handle to carry it with.There isn't really a good spout on the bucket to pour it out of though - at least I haven't found a corner that works well yet.I poured the water down the floor drain and it kind of splashes a bit.

There is a way to hook a threaded garden hose up to the unit so you can just dump the water into a floor drain or wherever.

That is probably my biggest gripe is that they should of included a small 2-4 foot hose for that already.I don't want to go buy some 25 foot garden hose and cut it off to what I need.I'm going to see if I can buy a threaded end and basically make my own out of some tubing or something. I don't want to have to dump the bucket every few days and since I have a floor drain right there, that is the way I would operate it.Of course if you are using this in your house without access to an easy drain, you'll have to remove the bucket and maybe dump it in a bathtub or something.

I would imagine that as soon as the humidity gets here this summer, this unit will really be working hard.Of course opening the garage doors a couple times of day will really let the humidity back in but it will just have to pull it back out.

One more thing - I could NOT find this specific unit listed on any Frigidaire websites which kind of worried me that it is some off-model unit or something.I think Amazon just probably has access to selling it and have it listed before Frigidaire actually has it listed up on their website.

(More customer reviews)I love this dehumidifier! Both my wife and I moved to a new apartment in Pacifica, CA literally across the street from the beach. We normally leave our windows open so it vents a bit of fresh air but the problem is that humidity enters as well with the sea breeze. It got really damp in our apartment and so bad that I felt it every time I got in the blankets. I shopped around and found this dehumidifier online and thought it would be very helpful. When it came, no joke, it was like christmas. I tore it open with a twinkle in my eye and laughed with joy when I pulled it out. I read the instruction manual to make sure I didn't ruin anything and it was a simple 3-6 step process. I set it up in no time and plugged it in to the wall to see what this bad boy can do. Within 12 hours, this 25 Pint dehumidifier was full. It kept getting full for the next 4 days and now it is nice and dry in our 1 bedroom apartment. I really love it!

I gave it a five star because of its awesomeness and the vendors quickness in shipping. The product is amazing.

Be aware that this dehumidifier is no whisper technology machine. It is as loud as a portable fan but my wife loves it since she needs noise to help her fall asleep (drowns out our neighbors loud movie watching at 11 PM). Thanks Frigidaire, your the best!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly for my downstairs and wanted one quiet enough for use in my bedroom upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. Honestly, my refrigerator is louder. The last I purchased removed lots of water, but it can be heard throughout the house when it was running. So i only used it when needed. The NewAir is super quiet. I often walk by it to make sure its on.
The NewAir works great in all weather conditioners . Running the central air is not necessary since the house is not hot. So I use a dehumidifier, which makes the house seem less clammy. I would recommend the Newair AD 400 to anyone who is looking for a small, really quiet, relatively light, dehumidifier that works well without with out excess noise.

Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier Review

(More customer reviews)I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis.To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems.The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".

This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate.The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly.I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom.My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating.The product loses one star for that.

I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

(More customer reviews)I am an avid coffee drinker, somewhere between 2-4 pots a day.My husband bought this 3-in-1 coffee maker for me for the Christmas of 2004.It has a digital clock/timer, flavor strength switch and makes pretty good coffee.It worked great for a while.
However, after about a year and a half the coffee maker side stopped working, without any warning.I went to get a cup of coffee and the hotplate was cold.After emptying it, cleaning it out and setting it up again, I turned it back on to make another pot.
The hotplate didn't even get warm, and the brewer didn't even make a noise or pull a single drop into the carafe.Even though the espresso and steamer side still works wonders, for the price of this 3-in-1, you would think it would work a bit longer than it has.

Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50-Pint Dehumidifier, White Review

(More customer reviews)I was a little hesitant buying this dehumidifier without any reviews on Amazon, but last year's model was highly-regarded so I figured there wasn't too much of a risk. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Pros:
- Looks great... I know it's a dehumidifier, but it doesn't hurt that it actually isn't hideous
- Really sucks moisture out of the air
- Good energy efficiency
- Multitude of options on how to run (timer on/off, humidity level, continuous operation)
- Auto-restart after power failure

Cons:
- Not the quietest dehumidifier. I've noticed with mine that it tends to start off pretty noisy and level out after about 30 minutes
- No adjustment to the vent airflow is possible, it would be nice if you could direction it up/down/left/right, but this isn't a major issue

Overall impression:
Some reviewers of the last model had difficulty removing the bucket -- mine has posed no problems. I believe that they didn't read the instructions, which clearly say to squeeze in the sides of the bucket gently in order to remove. For those who, like me, have to deal with ridiculously high electricity costs you'll be happy to know that it's a quite efficient model for its size. This dehumidifier reads out around 530 watts on my Kill-a-Watt (measured after it's had time to settle for about 15 minutes. I've noticed it tends to spike when you turn it on, then decrease rapidly, then slowly rise up to about the measured amount).

I cannot comment on its durability, but will provide an update in the future.

(More customer reviews)First of all, the reason we bought this is because, in general, percolators make great tasting coffee.They can turn even the worst quality beans into a good cup of coffee.Initially, the Presto lived up to our expectations.And after doing the following, it is once again making great cups of coffee.

Tip #1 - Grind your coffee using the appropriate setting.

After some usage, we would at times get a mouthful of grinds.We realized it was important to use the percolator setting on the coffee grinder at the supermarket.Since then, an occasional coffee grind finds its way into our cup.

Tip #2 - Clean the filter basket with a brush.

Despite cleaning the pot before each usage, the coffee was gradually getting weaker each day. We then realized that the holes in the bottom of the filter basket were clogged.We could not unclog them using a sponge so I started poking each one individually with a toothpick before deciding there was no way we would have the time or patience to do it every day.So, we tried a brush with plastic bristles and, within seconds, the basket was completely unclogged.So, we bought a small brush with a long handle and use it to clean the filter basket and the bottom of the pot.

Soleus Air CFM-40 E 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat Review

(More customer reviews)I installed this unit in my basement about 8 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly ever since.

Things I noticed:

If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically (as some other units do.)

If you want to use the continuous drainage (which I highly recommend) via a hose, you have to punch out a plastic disc on the side of the unit.I would have designed a screw-type plug that was replacable, but they didn't think of that.Anyway, once you punch the quarter-size disc out it's out forever.

If you choose to use the continuous drainage feature, you will need to pick up a hose with an inner diameter of 15mm (.59" or just over half an inch.)I went to the local DIY center and found some clear tubing that has worked well.

The unit can operate down to 2-degrees C (36-degrees F), which will be great for continuous operation in the garage to keep the tools from rusting.

Has three fan settings: med, high and quiet."Quiet" really is quiet, and could probably work just fine in a bedroom.Though, it does warm the room it's in.How much it warms it depends on the humidity setting.

Four settings: The humidty level (humidstat) can be set to "continuous dehumidification" (which is the default setting), 50%, 60% and 70%.The fan will continue to run but the dehumidification processor will turn off when it reaches the selected humidity level.Cool.I mean, that's when the fan will just blow room-temp air.

A full drainage tank will stop the unit and illuminate a "tank full" indicator light.

The unit is not that heavy -- maybe for some, but not nearly as heavy as some people make it sound.It's 30.8 pounds.

According to the instructions: You will need at least 21 cm (about 8 inches) of clearance in front, behind and side to side.Air blows out of the top of the unit, so you'll need to make sure it's clear as well.

There are movable louvers on the top to direct the air straight up, 45-degrees or almost straight ahead.

Power consumption: CFM-25E is 220W//CFM-40E is 330W

I highly recommend this model dehumidifier.

***15-month UPDATE:It is still working like a champ!We haven't had one single problem with it, and I don't foresee ever really having one in the near future.I've been running this thing nonstop and it has only required me to clean the filter on the back (which takes 5 minutes.)It has remained as quiet as the day I bought it.It's awesome!

Acme 6001 Juicer - Juicerator Household Centrifugal Juicer Review

(More customer reviews)Acme juicers are made by Waring now as they have been for the past twenty years or so.One can buy the identical juicer as the Waring Commercial, so price shopping may prove fruitful.

I'll state that I've used Acme juicers for 30 years and the one I own now I've had for a number of years.The design hasn't changed, though, and my juicer uses the same supplies and parts.

Though the Acme appears quite similar to the Omega 1000/9000 series, there is one important design difference.If you look at the photo of the Acme you will see there are no moving arms on either side to hold the lid down.Apparently these arms are an Achilles' heel for Omega owners, breaking over time.The Acme uses no arms.The lid is placed on top of the bowl, then a short twist locks the lid to the side arms.No hanging, moving parts to break, and it's extremely quick and easy and secure.I'm sure when the guys breaking away from Acme decided to essentially copy the Acme design they couldn't take this with them, so they went with breakable arms.I can only say that after thousands of openings and closings with my Acme, the lid is as secure and workable as it was when new.

As can be seen, this isn't one of the so-popular pulp ejectors with the slanted slotted basket to throw pulp out.Upon opening the lid and looking inside, the sheer size of the straight-sided pulp catcher is impressive after looking at so many little slanted baskets.The pulp catcher is large enough to easily accommodate my man's hand for cleaning. And, of course, the outer stainless steel container is even larger.Because those of us who do serious juicing know that periodically the cutting blades will dull and need replacement, the cutting blades are on a very heavy stainless weighted disc, separate.At this time the cost is around $30 to replace this heavy cutting disc; full-sized Omegas and Acmes use the same disc.And, of course, the big juice bar commercial juicers also feature replaceable cutting discs.There is a large threaded shaft coming up from the motor in the middle.A large, easily-handled knob with built-in spring clutch threads on the shaft after dropping the heavy cutting disc on the shaft.Alignment of the cutting disc is automatic, no fiddling required.Total assembly of the stainless steel basket, outer container, cutting disc and lid is extremely easy and fast compared to so many newer generation juicers.Just a classic design that truly hasn't been improved.

This is a massive and heavy appliance and it sets on a dozen or so rubber feet; in years I've never known the thing to walk an inch.These big rubber feet (some are visible in the photo) dampen vibration perfectly.Upon turning the machine on, the noise level is quite low compared to so many juicers, rather a low, whooshing noise.The basket spins at 60rpm/second.This may not be as fast as some machines, but one must remember the large diameter of the pulp basket.It gains speed quickly in a few seconds is at operating speed.I'm not going to jam produce into any juicer like some of those idiots on infomercials, and this juicer easily takes care of firm vegetables.The best method for leafy greens is to roll them up into a roll or a ball to give sufficient firmness for the cutting disc.No, this juicer doesn't extract the same amount of juice for leafy greens.Buy a masticator if you want primarily those.

After use, it does take a half minute or so for the basket to slowly return to idle.I will say this juicer will easily produce a couple of 16-ounce glasses of carrot/beet/celery type juice before requiring cleaning of the pulp container.And boy, is it dry!Can't squeeze a drop out.I keep reading how much harder this basket is to clean than pulp ejectors.Not in my opinion.Because of its great size, I can easily reach inside.Not only that, because it isn't slanted on the circumference, pulp somehow doesn't get a grip.I never have to use a brush on this basket, just running water and my hand.

I know this review is long, but there isn't a lot of publicity about a juicer that was one of the bedrocks of juicing, and still should be.Unlike so many of these little foreign-made machines selling like hotcakes now, this juicer will be around for your grandchildren--and parts are still completely available.Hope this helps those considering--and compare the lid lock with Omega!

Hamilton Beach 47214 12-Cup BrewStation, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I have had my BrewStation coffee maker for quite some time, and actually this is my second one.The first lasted almost a year before the power button quick working.We contacted Hamilton Beach, they sent us a free postage-paid return label along with a new machine. We did not even have to wait until they rec'd the old one before they would send the new one. Nice!

We have not had any problems with the new machine and we have had it for almost two years.No leaks, no fumbling with a glass pot, (which can cost more than the coffee makers they came with to replace when they break), no dribbling coffee down the side of your cup to the floor/counter.

For leak problems described in other reviews, make sure the rubber seal at the bottom of the carafe is intact and securely in place.It can become dislodged when cleaning.

I noticed what I thought was mold growing on the hinge of the lid, but it is just hard water deposits.You can lift the lid and press it back just enough to pop the plastic bar (hinge) out.Wipe the bar down on both sides with a dish cloth then easily pop it back into place.Do this during routine cleaning to eliminate the deposits from accummulating.

(More customer reviews)I am surprised to see this model is still being sold. I bought this in Canada ealier this year, and it worked only a few months before the base switch stopped working. Because I was now in the states, its was a minor hassle to get a warranty replacement through Hamilton Beach, but one was obtained and cost me $8 in misc shipping costs. That one worked only a few months longer, then died the same way as its predecessor. Fool me twice, shame on me, huh? There seems to be a fundamental engineering flaw with the base switch on the model. Hamilton Beach should take it off the market and re-think the switch. I really wanted this kettle to work for me, loved everything else about it.

(More customer reviews)Yeah !No more black filter specks to deal with like you get with those Brita filters.Brita is getting worse and the last filter didn't even fit secure enough to filter the water.This Dupont universal version fits my Brita pitcher very well and the water taste is great.We live in an area of city water which smells of chlorine. Filtering is a must and this Dupont filter is excellent.I find it no slower than the black- speck-emitting Brita filter which is now history in this house!!
