(More customer reviews)New, out of the box, I turned this dehumidifier on and what a noise it made.

I removed the cabinet from around the unit and found that the fan blades were striking the top of the compreser. Because the threads of two of the three bolts that hold the compresser in place were stripped and the nuts could not be tightened down on those bolts thus the compresser leaned over to get itself under the fan blades. I added washers to the bolts so that the nuts didn't have as far to go to tighten and re-applied the nuts which pulled the compresser upright and now the fan blades don't hit. The person who installed those compresser nuts had to know they had stripped the bolts but sent it out to the customer anyway.

Now, two days later and the pump doesn't pump.

I've written DeLonghi telling them that I will ship the unit at my expense to either DeLonghi or Amazon, their choice but that I wanted my money back.

I'll keep you posted.

LG Electronics DH404E Dehumidifier Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this when I was living in New Jersey. It is my first dehumidifier and I may have been expecting too much.

It removes plenty of moisture and works great. When the bucket is full it shuts itself off. You have the option of connecting it to a hose and let it run indefinitely with no water collection. Don't set it on max, because a room that is TOO dry is also uncomfortable. You can set it as low as 40% humidity, and can increase this in increments of 10% to Max.

Main problem is that it runs very hot. It will heat the room in which it is placed. On a hot humid day the last thing you want is a hotter dry day. This is not one of those units you would want to put in your bedroom.

It is not really quiet. I don't know if it is quieter than other dehumidifiers, but it produces the same amount of sound as a room air-conditioner.

(More customer reviews)I've been using this dehumidifier for about 2 weeks now.I guess it is a brand new model for this year and that is why I am the first review.I figured that last years model had good reviews so this years model can't be too bad.Plus I've had great luck with our 16 year old Frigidaire refrigerator so they must know compressors well.

Unit was boxed very well and packaged acceptally from Amazon.You cut the plastic straps off and lift off the box exterior from the base.You can then pick up the unit from the handle on top.It is a plastic handle but doesn't feel fragile when you lift it.It is pretty heavy, but wasn't a problem for me to carry downstairs to my garage.

Setup was easy if I remember correctly.Just pull off some tape in a couple of places and plug in the cord.I had it run on continuous for several days but have now dropped it down to keeping it at 35 or 40 percent.It has digital pushbutton controls which I haven't really explored too much.There is a 2 digit numeric display which I think shows the set value and after a moment the current humidity that it is seeing.I'd have to check the manual on that for sure though.That is the way it acted.

I current have it in a garage that is not very warm.It has been into the upper 30's and 40's there the past couple of weeks.I needed this dehumidifier out there to keep a bunch of woodworking tools from rusting.I drive the car into the garage and all of the snow drips off of it and onto the concrete.I was worried about the humidity level in there even in the winter.The equipment I have out there is worth too much to have it rust!

It is really sucking the moisture out of the air though.After about 5 days of running, I had a full bucket.It holds a lot of water.The bucket is easy to remove from the unit.It has a handle to carry it with.There isn't really a good spout on the bucket to pour it out of though - at least I haven't found a corner that works well yet.I poured the water down the floor drain and it kind of splashes a bit.

There is a way to hook a threaded garden hose up to the unit so you can just dump the water into a floor drain or wherever.

That is probably my biggest gripe is that they should of included a small 2-4 foot hose for that already.I don't want to go buy some 25 foot garden hose and cut it off to what I need.I'm going to see if I can buy a threaded end and basically make my own out of some tubing or something. I don't want to have to dump the bucket every few days and since I have a floor drain right there, that is the way I would operate it.Of course if you are using this in your house without access to an easy drain, you'll have to remove the bucket and maybe dump it in a bathtub or something.

I would imagine that as soon as the humidity gets here this summer, this unit will really be working hard.Of course opening the garage doors a couple times of day will really let the humidity back in but it will just have to pull it back out.

One more thing - I could NOT find this specific unit listed on any Frigidaire websites which kind of worried me that it is some off-model unit or something.I think Amazon just probably has access to selling it and have it listed before Frigidaire actually has it listed up on their website.

10-000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this Sharp portable air conditioner for a couple of years now.Without a doubt, it's proved to be worth every cent I spent on it.I had another name brand air conditioner that died not long after I purchased it and this was the replacement.These units are heavy and delivery right to your door is a real plus!

My favorite feature is the Mega Cool feature.If you want to cool down in a hurry simply putting the air conditioner on this setting will start cooling down a room in minutes (I personally sit right in front of it during this process!).

It has a remote control with a digital readout. You can put it on a timer, operate the fan, louvers, dehumidifier, etc. The vertical louvers need to be adjusted manually. The filters pull out readily and are easy to clean. When not using the remote there is an indentation in the back for secure storage.This is a very sleek, attractive unit and I prefer it to the white.The booklet included is very comprehensive, well illustrated and comes in English and Spanish.

I have had this unit in two different settings.It obviously is meant to be set up in double-hung and sliding sash windows, but we were able to set it up in a sliding glass door (a little ingenuity goes a long way).We cut a pine board vertically to fit the opening between the wall track and the door and cut a hole for the window exhaust adapter.After the "installation" we used duct tape around the adapter.After we closed the door we simply replaced the stick in the track with a shorter one so the door could not be easily opened from the outside (if you are in a high crime area I wouldn't recommend this set up).

I had two different portable air conditioners before this one and I'm quite pleased with this unit!

(More customer reviews)I love this dehumidifier! Both my wife and I moved to a new apartment in Pacifica, CA literally across the street from the beach. We normally leave our windows open so it vents a bit of fresh air but the problem is that humidity enters as well with the sea breeze. It got really damp in our apartment and so bad that I felt it every time I got in the blankets. I shopped around and found this dehumidifier online and thought it would be very helpful. When it came, no joke, it was like christmas. I tore it open with a twinkle in my eye and laughed with joy when I pulled it out. I read the instruction manual to make sure I didn't ruin anything and it was a simple 3-6 step process. I set it up in no time and plugged it in to the wall to see what this bad boy can do. Within 12 hours, this 25 Pint dehumidifier was full. It kept getting full for the next 4 days and now it is nice and dry in our 1 bedroom apartment. I really love it!

I gave it a five star because of its awesomeness and the vendors quickness in shipping. The product is amazing.

Be aware that this dehumidifier is no whisper technology machine. It is as loud as a portable fan but my wife loves it since she needs noise to help her fall asleep (drowns out our neighbors loud movie watching at 11 PM). Thanks Frigidaire, your the best!

(More customer reviews)I purchased this dehumidifier for mainly for my downstairs and wanted one quiet enough for use in my bedroom upstairs if needed. And, boy is this thing quiet. Honestly, my refrigerator is louder. The last I purchased removed lots of water, but it can be heard throughout the house when it was running. So i only used it when needed. The NewAir is super quiet. I often walk by it to make sure its on.
The NewAir works great in all weather conditioners . Running the central air is not necessary since the house is not hot. So I use a dehumidifier, which makes the house seem less clammy. I would recommend the Newair AD 400 to anyone who is looking for a small, really quiet, relatively light, dehumidifier that works well without with out excess noise.

(More customer reviews)My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting.The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.

Only complaint is that the plastic shield to direct air flow is flimsy. We tried to redirect the flow and it fell off. When you try to put it back on it is difficult and one pin broke. Luckily the shield is more window dressing, as the unit works well without it. It has a nice extra feature of an ionizer to purify the air. Not sure if this really works, but we have all breathed easier since we have run this dehumidifier in our home.

Sunpentown Mini Dehumidifier with TiO2 and UV light Review

(More customer reviews)I am currently using this in an apartment sized bathroom. The bathroom has no ventilation or even AC so all the moisture just sits in there. It always smelled dank and musty in there, no matter what cleaning products I would use or deodorizers I'd setup in there. Within 24 hours of setting this little guy up(Sits on my bathroom sink countertop.) The smell was gone and it already had well over a cup of water in the tank. It also comes with a thin clear drain hose that allows it to run continuously without having to empty the tank. It has been running for about 2 months now without a single problem.

I only can see a few issues with this device.

1. To me it is loud. Very loud. While this isn't a problem for me due to where it is at, if you are looking to put this somewhere where you need or want quiet like a bedroom, I'd try to find something else. preferably fan-less if possible. (I can drown it out very easily with all the entertainment electronics I run throughout the apartment, but I could imagine it being a problem for someone trying to sleep with this thing running in the same room.

2. I don't care for the tank design. The one time I tried to empty the tank I spilled a good amount of the water into the machine just trying to pull the tank out. So I'd same make sure it's unplugged before emptying the tank. Also the hose comes off easily when I move the unit around which leads to another problem I have with the design. The hose connects to the very top of the tank, meaning the tank has to be full before it starts to drain through the hose. I can see why they did it this way but I would have preferred an option to go without a tank at all.

Of course they are just minor gripes to me. The product does its job well and I have yet to find anything else even close price-wise that can compete.

(More customer reviews)I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis.To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems.The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".

This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate.The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly.I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom.My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating.The product loses one star for that.

I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50-Pint Dehumidifier, White Review

(More customer reviews)I was a little hesitant buying this dehumidifier without any reviews on Amazon, but last year's model was highly-regarded so I figured there wasn't too much of a risk. All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Pros:
- Looks great... I know it's a dehumidifier, but it doesn't hurt that it actually isn't hideous
- Really sucks moisture out of the air
- Good energy efficiency
- Multitude of options on how to run (timer on/off, humidity level, continuous operation)
- Auto-restart after power failure

Cons:
- Not the quietest dehumidifier. I've noticed with mine that it tends to start off pretty noisy and level out after about 30 minutes
- No adjustment to the vent airflow is possible, it would be nice if you could direction it up/down/left/right, but this isn't a major issue

Overall impression:
Some reviewers of the last model had difficulty removing the bucket -- mine has posed no problems. I believe that they didn't read the instructions, which clearly say to squeeze in the sides of the bucket gently in order to remove. For those who, like me, have to deal with ridiculously high electricity costs you'll be happy to know that it's a quite efficient model for its size. This dehumidifier reads out around 530 watts on my Kill-a-Watt (measured after it's had time to settle for about 15 minutes. I've noticed it tends to spike when you turn it on, then decrease rapidly, then slowly rise up to about the measured amount).

I cannot comment on its durability, but will provide an update in the future.

Their help line was no help at all. They said I was suppose to run it 24/7. (More customer reviews)I bought two mini dehumidifier at once, this one and the Eva-dry EDV-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier.Hands down, the Eva-dry out performs this!They are about 7' apart, but yet the Eva dry can pull out about 8oz of water every 3 days, compared to the 2 tblsp or so this device does.

However, this device is much quieter than the Eva-dry.

As for the UV light, is it really necessary?Better yet...does it really even work?I wouldnt know....

(More customer reviews)I installed this unit in my basement about 8 months ago, and it has been working flawlessly ever since.

Things I noticed:

If the power goes out, the unit will NOT turn back on automatically (as some other units do.)

If you want to use the continuous drainage (which I highly recommend) via a hose, you have to punch out a plastic disc on the side of the unit.I would have designed a screw-type plug that was replacable, but they didn't think of that.Anyway, once you punch the quarter-size disc out it's out forever.

If you choose to use the continuous drainage feature, you will need to pick up a hose with an inner diameter of 15mm (.59" or just over half an inch.)I went to the local DIY center and found some clear tubing that has worked well.

The unit can operate down to 2-degrees C (36-degrees F), which will be great for continuous operation in the garage to keep the tools from rusting.

Has three fan settings: med, high and quiet."Quiet" really is quiet, and could probably work just fine in a bedroom.Though, it does warm the room it's in.How much it warms it depends on the humidity setting.

Four settings: The humidty level (humidstat) can be set to "continuous dehumidification" (which is the default setting), 50%, 60% and 70%.The fan will continue to run but the dehumidification processor will turn off when it reaches the selected humidity level.Cool.I mean, that's when the fan will just blow room-temp air.

A full drainage tank will stop the unit and illuminate a "tank full" indicator light.

The unit is not that heavy -- maybe for some, but not nearly as heavy as some people make it sound.It's 30.8 pounds.

According to the instructions: You will need at least 21 cm (about 8 inches) of clearance in front, behind and side to side.Air blows out of the top of the unit, so you'll need to make sure it's clear as well.

There are movable louvers on the top to direct the air straight up, 45-degrees or almost straight ahead.

Power consumption: CFM-25E is 220W//CFM-40E is 330W

I highly recommend this model dehumidifier.

***15-month UPDATE:It is still working like a champ!We haven't had one single problem with it, and I don't foresee ever really having one in the near future.I've been running this thing nonstop and it has only required me to clean the filter on the back (which takes 5 minutes.)It has remained as quiet as the day I bought it.It's awesome!

(More customer reviews)I spent a night reviewing dehumidifiers at Consumer Reports, amazon, and elsewhere to understand what I should use for a damp basement after the 2010 east coast winter.I realized, finally, by plowing through all the hype, that the "70 pints" does not refer to the volume of the bucket, but the rate at which the dehumidifier can remove water vapor from the air:70 pints per day, but the buckets are all the same, about 2 gallons.That needs to be made clearer in the review and advertising.For a block-wall basement, with French drains, in an area with high water table, or for any room where liquid water appears, you need the highest rate so the unit cycles on and off.Otherwise, you seriously waste power.
This unit (Frigidaire FAD704TDP) was not reviewed by Consumer Reports, but by others who were concerned with drying rates and noise.This unit is almost silent!It filled a 2-gal bucket in just a few hours in a 40x60 foot basement with no liquid water but with damp block foundation.Overnight, the difference was remarkable; in two days time, it was dry and liveable without further odors.It cycles in 1-3 hours, depending on rainfall, when set to 40% humidity, and I would suppose that higher or lower settings may be needed at other times of year.
I built a clear vinyl hose from parts at hardware store, and piped the water to the small sump attached to the house HVAC.The unit had to be placed on an 8" box (wooden), with casters to keep it from rolling off.Being able to see the hose water was important as grunge will appear; when not hosed out, this eventually blocked the hose and defeated the dehumidifier.The built-in air filter is not designed to remove mold spores to prevent this problem.
A very good product, confidently recommended.

(More customer reviews)I was surprisingly pleased with the Eva Dry mini dehumidifier.I hang mine just out outside our guinea pig's cage and it absorbs excess moisture quite effectively, keeping their food and cage area from getting too humid.It takes several weeks to fully absorb moisture but the indicator will go from blue to bright pink, and the unit will be noticeably heavier.Just plug the unit into the socket overnight to refresh.

(More customer reviews)We bought one of these Hunter humidifiers a few years ago.I liked the big tank, low-maintenance and no consumables (no wicks or filters to buy).The only problem was, as others have mentioned, that often when it switched off, a gallon or more of water would promptly dump onto my floor.I finally called Hunter to complain about it, and I have to say I'm incredibly impressed with their customer service, and with the simple fix (new design for the tray) which appears to fix the problem completely.This is now a very competent humidifier, and we're really happy with it.You won't see a cool plume of water vapor spewing from this unit, but it does work really well, and it's very easy to keep clean (just throw parts of it in the dishwasher, and use vinegar and water to de-calcify the other parts).

For those who are shopping for a humidifier, you first have to decide what's important to you.For me, the ultrasonic ones are a no-go because they spew white powder all over my room (mineral dust from our hard water).The hot steam ones are a no-go because they get all nasty from bacteria, fungi, etc.I don't want to breathe that stuff in.And while the fan is far from silent, we actually like it at night, it's a nice gentle drone that helps lull us to sleep.

Nice job, Hunter, on fixing the original design flaw, and on supporting the product so well.
