(More customer reviews)I wanted to put an evap cooler in our upstairs bedroom but the window where it would go was too narrow.I checked all the reviews and descriptions I could find on several different web sites and decided to go for this portable unit. It has large water capacity, easy to move, can use as a fan only, add ice for real cool air, easy to add water, is quiet enough we left it on one night while we slept.Fan force good, it really moves the air on "high".Haven't emptied it yet, we have had 100 degree weather so it has been on every day. The "humidity" controller basically just determines how much water flows over the filters.The unit does not cool the room like a window evap unit would, but I do recommend it to take the temperature down 15-20 degrees.I am very glad I purchased this product and if I needed another cooler I would get this one again. It actually isn't too bad to look at either.

Haier XQJ50-31 Agitator 1-2/3-Cubic-Foot Portable Washer Review

(More customer reviews)If you are like me, you are scouring these reviews trying to decide if this is the right product for you- if it will arrive safely, be easy to hook up, and work as promised.

Since this is a fairly large purchase for most, I thought I would add my own review, as a person who seriously debated buying this machine based on the reviews about damages and other difficulties. After much consideration, I finally ordered and received this washing machine and there are a few things I can tell you.

Firstly, it is going to come with some dings, almost guaranteed. As another reviewer mentioned, the tub is free floating inside and there is absolutely nothing to stop it from swinging into the metal housing during shipping. And you have to know it will get bumped hard enough in shipping to swing that tub around at least a little. It would have taken a dollar's worth of styrofoam to secure the tub inside, it is a shame they don't take care of that little problem. So, just resolve yourself to this idea and you won't be disappointed. Fortunately, the dings are only cosmetic, and you might have only a few, or you might have a lot. My machine arrived dinged up, but works perfectly. Most of the dings were caused by the tub pushing from inside out, but there were also a couple of indentions obviously from things hitting the box during shipping. Though I am making a thorough description of the damage, overall, it was not devastating.

Secondly, it's not that hard to hook up, and I found the instruction book adequate. The first thing you must do when you receive the machine, after you unpack it, is to lay it on its side an put the casters on. There are two stopper-type feet, and two adjustable level feet on it, out of the box. The adjustable level feet come right off. The stopper type feet will require a pipe wrench to remove. Don't even think you can do it with your hands or a cheap pair of pliers. They won't budge. But get yourself a pipe wrench and turn counter-clockwise and they will begin to unscrew, no problem. At this time, it will help you to have an electric screwdriver handy to mount the bottom (noise cancelling) panel. You can do it by hand if you want, but if you are doing it alone it will be difficult for you to hold it and put the screws in. Also, the electric screwdriver has a little more force, so if your frame is slightly dented, you can almost correct it by forcing the screws into the correct position.

Voila! Once you put the machine upright, it rolls very easily! The next task is to roll it over to the sink and set up your connections. Personally, I don't see any benefit to having a Y adapter if you only have one faucet. The hot and cold water are going to mix together before going to the intakes anyway, so what is the point? I hooked up only one hose, to the cold water intake. (There is a screw-on plug included for the other intake if you choose to hook up only one.) When the wash cycle begins, I have the hot water on, then after the tub fills I turn the hot water off, and the cold water on for the remaining 2 rinse cycles.

Next, the quick-connect adapter for the faucet is not difficult to install. You simply unscrew the aerator off your faucet, and add the quick-connect version which screws right in to replace it. Then attach the other piece of the quick-connect to the end of the cold water hose you just installed on the back of the washer. Now this hose will clip on to your faucet in one motion. Just push down the white piece, slip it over the piece on the faucet, and release. It makes a tight, reliable connection. If you leave the faucet piece on (you can still run water through it) then each time you want to wash, all you have to do is click the quick-connect on and you are ready to go. So, no worries about that part, it is a snap.

Now, the drain hose is another thing. It is too inflexible, and too short to be convenient. If you use this hose, be sure to use something to weight it so it remains in the sink when the water starts coming through! It is made of slick accordion plastic which does not stay in place easily. Myself, I went and bought some thick black rubber tubing in a longer length. A hose clamp is included, be sure to use it to secure whatever hose you might choose to use. If you don't clamp the hose on tightly, you will have a flood as soon as the pump kicks in.

OK, so that's what you can expect once the machine arrives. It seems like a bit of work, and all in all it will probably take you an hour and half before you get your first wash in. But that's where it pays off. This little machine washes just beautifully. The clothes are very clean after the generous wash and two rinse cycles. It spins them very well, so the clothes dry in 6-8 hours after you hang them up. (If you are an apartment dweller with no dryer, do a search on the internet for a "gull-wing clothes drying rack" for a neat solution for drying.)

I have to agree that the design on the detergent drawer could be much much better, but it works. It also has a fabric softener dispenser and a bleach dispenser! The electronic panel is just plain cool, as well. Like another reviewer, I hope it lasts a long time. There is also an available soak cycle which you can add to any of the regular cycles, which is very handy. When it comes to washing, this machine is A+. I really could not be happier with its performance. The tub actually holds much more than I anticipated-- I would guess about 2/3 of a "normal" washer.

I found this machine a good investment, considering the cost and inconvenience of going to a laundromat. If you are living in an apartment without hook-ups and are spending hours in the laundromat, this will change your life in a good way.

I will try to come back after some months and comment on the long term performance, but I am not anticipating any problems.

**UPDATE**

6 months later, and I am still very happy with this machine.Thrilled actually, not to have seen the inside of a laundromat for a good long while.

The only issue I have had is that if the machine is not on a nice level piece of flooring, it will have balance issues.Once I recognized what was causing the problem, I had to memorize the "sweet spot" on the floor in front of the sink where the machine has to sit precisely in order to avoid any balance problems.My kitchen floor is anything but level.As long as it is in the zone, it can hold an amazing amount of clothes and spin clean without a hitch.If it is not level, I can have even a small amount of clothes in it and it acts up by refilling itself over and over because it thinks the clothes are out of balance and it is trying to correct it by adding water (self-balancing feature.)So if you are having similar trouble, experiment moving the machine 3-4" this way or that, until you find the place it likes and it will perform like a champ.

Using my drying rack and opening the windows to create a cross-breeze in the house, the clothes are dry in 5-6 hours.There are other bonuses to this method.Not putting them in the dryer is also causing less wear and color loss to the fabrics, and stains do not set...so if you miss one, you can get it out the next time without the dryer having "cooked" it in forever.Then there's the simple environmental and cost savings of not running a dryer as well.

Thumbs up for this machine, dings and all.Kick your feet up in your favorite chair while the washer is working and think about how great it is not to be in some sweaty laundromat full of college kids.

Just wanted to say- it's been nearly 5 years since I received this machine from Amazon and it's still working perfectly.It's been my only machine and I use it weekly.The casters make funny noises now due to the locks on them slipping, but after years of service...that's easy to forgive.

10-000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this Sharp portable air conditioner for a couple of years now.Without a doubt, it's proved to be worth every cent I spent on it.I had another name brand air conditioner that died not long after I purchased it and this was the replacement.These units are heavy and delivery right to your door is a real plus!

My favorite feature is the Mega Cool feature.If you want to cool down in a hurry simply putting the air conditioner on this setting will start cooling down a room in minutes (I personally sit right in front of it during this process!).

It has a remote control with a digital readout. You can put it on a timer, operate the fan, louvers, dehumidifier, etc. The vertical louvers need to be adjusted manually. The filters pull out readily and are easy to clean. When not using the remote there is an indentation in the back for secure storage.This is a very sleek, attractive unit and I prefer it to the white.The booklet included is very comprehensive, well illustrated and comes in English and Spanish.

I have had this unit in two different settings.It obviously is meant to be set up in double-hung and sliding sash windows, but we were able to set it up in a sliding glass door (a little ingenuity goes a long way).We cut a pine board vertically to fit the opening between the wall track and the door and cut a hole for the window exhaust adapter.After the "installation" we used duct tape around the adapter.After we closed the door we simply replaced the stick in the track with a shorter one so the door could not be easily opened from the outside (if you are in a high crime area I wouldn't recommend this set up).

I had two different portable air conditioners before this one and I'm quite pleased with this unit!

Haier HLP140E 2-3/5-Cubic-Foot Compact Tumble Vented Dryer Review

(More customer reviews)I have only had this dryer for about 10 days now, but I'm very happy with it! There is one other review for this dryer and in it they say it takes a long time for the clothes to dry... this is true. But I think it's to be expected since this dryer can simply be plugged into any outlet unlike a normal dryer. So, smaller dryer... less power... longer drying time. The reason I'm giving this unit 5 stars is because if getting out the laundry mat is as important to you as it was to me, then the extra drying time is more than acceptable. Also, this dryer is VERY QUITE, simple to use and set up. For the first 5 loads I just had the machine sitting on the floor near a window - I didn't even have the hose out the window. It did get my apartment a little warm and humid (not since I've put the hose out the window of course), but I'm just making the point that it is very easy to set up.

How long does it take to dry clothes? I'm still trying to get all the drying times down myself. But I'm having much better luck using the timed dry instead of the auto dry. On auto drying it does seem to take hours before it finally stops. So I've just started to try and figure how long certain things dry. For example, my sheets (fitted bottom and the top sheet) I'm drying now between 60 or 90 minutes. On both times the sheets are close to dry and hanging them up for a little longer is enough. I guess this review is a little premature since I don't have the dry times down yet. But I have the feeling 90 minutes will dry most stuff about 90 percent.

I think once I make the adjustment and get things organized drying will not be a hassle at all. And for me the extra fiddling I have to do while drying in my apartment is so much better than having the hassle oforganizing taking everything out of apartment, waiting, digging up quarters, using a machine that has been used 10,0000 times instead my nice new machine.

UPDATE! THE SOLUTION! March 18, 2009

I have owned now the Haier Washer and Haier Dryer now for 5 months and I still am incredibly happy with my purchase. Even with the very long drying times with the dryer I love not having to go down to the W&Ds in the apartments laundry room.

But there is a solution to the long drying time with the dryer: Not long after posting my review C. Mok posted this comment (note: the spin dryer is very small 24 inches high, 14 inches in diameter - $134.00 + shipping - and only one company seems to sell them in the US):

May I suggest complementing your electric dryer with a small spin dryer? I bought a spin dryer on a whim when I remembered those were the only things used in Asia when I was there during the 80s. It has worked really well along side my small portable washer in my small apt. I hang dry most of my laundry except when I'm in a hurry. The spin dryer cuts drying time in half easily. Most spin cycle on washers go about maybe 600 - 800 rpm. The little spin dryer spins at 3000rpm. On a small wash (2 bath towels) it can spin out over a quart of water (over 32fl oz) in less than 2 minutes. That is a significant amount of water to evaporate using normal dryers. This will shorten your drying time and also save your clothes from heat damage from the prolong drying times. The only catch is trying to balance the load in the small spin dryer. I find it easiest to load all the heavy cotton clothes on the bottom and the lighter synthetic clothes on the top. Then give it a good shove and compress everything tightly down. I finally bought the spin dryer to work with my Haier dryer about a month ago and now washing and drying is very similar to using normal sized machines. Now there is just a very short middle step. I'll give examples of some of the basic loads I do each week.

Whites (socks 10-12 pair, underwear 10-12 pair, t-shirts 2-4):

After using the washing machine I put all clothes in the spin dryer. It is important to pack the spin dryer the way the manual suggests to prevent the dryer from bouncing around like R2-D2 in a bad mood. With small items like socks and underwear though, it's pretty easy, and after experience you will see what you can just drop and press in the SD (spin dryer)and what you need to wrap around. I does sound like this middle step is a pain, but after you use it a bunch of times, it's pretty easy and you don't give it a second thought. When you turn the SD on, it starts to spin, shakes a bit, then settles down and gets very quiet as it picks up speed. When you first use the spin dryer, you think, wow, i got ripped off! No water is coming out!.... But wait... after about 30 seconds water starts flow out. Dribblyat first but then... wow! With a full load, CUPS of water fill your water catcher. I have had between 1 and 5 cups of water (normally 2-3), depending on what I was washing. Once the water flow starts to slow down, you turn off the machine. It only takes 2-3 minutes.

I then take my clothes and put then in the Haier dryer and set the timer to 90 minutes. After 90 minutes the clothes are BONE DRY. I'm not sure how long it actually takes, but if the load is a little smaller there is a very good chance they will be dry after only 1 hour.

Darks: 2 pairs of pants, 6-8 T-shirts, 1 sweat shirt. In the SD, you do now need to put the pants in first, wrapped into the bottom of the machine, then the sweat shirt, then the shirts. Again, after 90 minutes - bone dry (as I said, they are probably done after 70 min? 80 min? I'm not sure because I just open it after the buzzer goes off.

Sheets (king size): OK, sheets are the only thing that I wash that can be slightly problematic. Because these are large items, they can make R2-D2 (the spin dryer) unhappy. You have to be the most careful here wrapping them into the spin dryer. In the Haier Dryer also, they can at times ball up. I normally wash 2-3 sheets at a time. Put them all in the spin dryer at once, then in the Haier dryer for 60 minutes EACH. I found that they don't ball up when you dry them separately. So yes, it would still take you 2 hours to dry 2 sheets.

The Washer and dryer are freakishly quite, but the Spin Dryer does have a lot of vibration at the beginning and end of it's 2-3 minute spin. Not a big deal because of the short time, but if you have thin floors and a neighbor under you, they might wonder what is going up every 45 minutes for 3 minutes while you are doing laundry. I suggest getting 1 or 2 thick squares of carpet.

UPDATE July 6th, 2009

I did just read the comment from someone who had problems ordering a spin dryer. I can't speak for that company other than mine arrived on time and in good shape and still works like new. I did go to the BBBlink and did only see 1 complaint about the company.

For reasons I don't understand, I was only ever able to find 1 company in the US that sells a spin dryer. Maybe some enterprising individual might think of importing some from a country that uses them more and start a business selling them. I had a friend who told me that they are pretty common in Europe. (Note: I do remember I had to wait a month to order a spin dryer from the Laundry Alternative because they were out of stock. I'm not vouching for the company - just giving my personal experience.

November 6, 2009 UPDATE

I was curious to see how long I've had my washer and dryer to calculate how much I've saved in quarters (13 months x $20 = $260). It's been over a year so I thought I'd add a first year update. The washer, dryer, and spin dryer all work like new. Which is great, I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not, but in my case they are fine. I did make the decision not to use bleach early on. I'm not sure if that has made any difference.

As far as drying. I reread my review and while it is true, if you use the spin dryer before the Haier dryer your wash will be bone dry in 90 minutes, that is with a small-med load. If you fill the dryer to the max. It will take 2-2.5 hours to dry. I just make sure to do medium loads more often.

My mom told me a secret to drying sheets! I still dry one sheet at a time for 90 minutes, but my mom said, AND SHE WAS RIGHT, if you put in a DRY towel (I use a big one) the sheet does not ball up while it spins. This has made a big difference in drying sheets, which are a pain to dry. I also bought a retractable clothesline from amazon. So when I dry sheets, (I don't use the spin dryer for sheets because the sheets are so big they can make the spin dryer go out of balance), I hang one on he clothes line, and they dry 1 for 90 minutes. Then I take the one out of the dryer and put it on the clothes line and put the one one from the clothes line in the dryer. Sometimes I have to put a sheet in for another 30 minutes.

Also, you really do need pull out and clean out the filter after every load. It really makes the drying time MUCH faster because it allows the air to flow out of the machine. You have to clean the lint off the "catch" and also the black filter thingy. Someone posted that an improvement on removing the filter would make the dryer a lot better. I totally agree with that.

The bottom line is: It depends on your personality; which do you dislike more? Digging up quarters, piling up your soap on your clothes in a basket and making a bunch of trips to the laundry room once a week or setting up these crazy contraptions in your apartment and turning your laundry doing into an art form where you have to get creative and be a little unorthodox.

SPT SF-610 Portable Evaporative Air Cooler with Ionizer Review

(More customer reviews)There are so many things wrong with this unit that I'm surprised I've managed to remember them all.Some other reviewers have touched base on them already, but here are the details:

* You put water and/or ice in the top of the unit; you cannot put water where the ice is and vice-versa.The area where you pour water into is about 3x2 inches in size (yes, really!), while the area for ice is about 7x3 inches.You literally need a funnel or a small plastic tube to fill the unit up with water (see below).But it gets worse...

* Easily the biggest flaw: the water/melted ice goes down a tube and literally into the casing of the unit!There is no water tank, or centralized hold for liquids.The entire bottom of the unit is the "tank", if you can even call it that.

* The two cooling packs provided contain some sort of cheap coolant liquid inside of them -- they do cool quite well, but here's the problem: they'rephysically too large.The cooling packs are dropped into the bottom of the casing (where the water is), right into the water.They don't mount inside anywhere.

* The "door" for the cooling packs is too small for my hand (and I have small hands), which makes removing the cooling packs impossible.It took me a good 5 minutes using a pair of plastic pliers to grab a pack and remove it.The door is held shut with magnets, which is admittedly nice. But the door empties right into the water "tank", which means you might as well fill it up from the side and not the top!What were they thinking when they engineered this thing?!

* Water pump is a pump intended for aquariums.If you open up the back of the unit (which you have to do for water filter cleaning; see below), you can peek inside and see quite clearly printed on the pump "AQUARIUM PUMP". Most aquarium pumps I know are loud, not soft/quiet nor do they hum; and because the pump is screw-mounted to the bottom of the unit (which is plastic), I'm left thinking the entire unit must vibrate heavily when powered on.This makes you question the production quality of this item.

* Water refill line is recessed deep inside the unit due to how the plastic casing is molded; it's impossible to read, and it's incredibly important (see above) to not go above a certain fill line.If you go above the line, water will start to come out of the front of the unit, and the rear of the unit (bottom of where the air filter starts).

* The air/lint filter on the back is easily removable.However, to clean the water filter, you must remove 6 screws and proceed to wiggle/wobble plastic pieces until you pull the back of the unit out.Why screws?Why not some retention plastic, or a clip?Better yet, why not magnets like the ones used on the coolant door?You cannot remove it entirely, because attached to it (permanently) is a bright orange hose connected somewhere within the unit; it has no slack.You need 3-4 hands to do this job.

* The water filter itself is what looks to be nylon webbing, identical to what some people use in a clothes hamper.It's just some cheap mesh with some Velcro on it so you can remove it semi-easily.

* Manual states you must clean the water filter every 2 weeks.Yup, you get to disassemble the unit that often.Fun for the whole family?

* Much to my amusement, the drainage spout (if you need to drain the unit) is directly behind where the AC power cord is.Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

Should you avoid this product?Absolutely.I'm left wishing I could give this thing negative stars; seriously, SPT should be ashamed for engineering something like this.I realize it's somewhat inexpensive, but what you get for under a hundred US dollars isn't even worth it.

(More customer reviews)My basement runs about 80% humidity all year round and stays about a constant 62 as well.I have had this unit running for a month and it has done everything I have asked of it.The basement is 1200 square foot and this dehumidifier has lowered the humidity to 55% which is where I have it set.I have it hosed to a drain and it is fairly loud on the high setting.The only negative I would note is the bucket seems a little flimsy if you are opting not to hose it to a drain.Actually it is the handle of the bucket that is suspect.Overall very happy with this product.

(More customer reviews)I bought this AC unit during the excess heat wave this summer.The unit, (once properly vented) works really well for cooling my bed room but it shuts off when the water needs drained.Durning these hot temperatures this is after only 2-2.5 hrs.Draining the water is not an easy task because the drain is only 1 inch from the floor so you can only use a really really shallow dish. It does come with a hose to connect to a drain for continous drainage but the drain must be below or at the same level as the AC unit.

This drainage problem makes the unit NOT useful for long term cooling (you can't run it all night or use it to cool while at work)

As a long term solution I am working on buidling a stand to set the unit on for continous drainage into a bucket but it is heavey and vibration makes noise a problem. Other portable AC unit have a collecting bottle which is easy to revome for drainage.

(More customer reviews)I live in a one-bedroom unit in a massive apartment building with 6 laundry machines in the basement. I did not buy this unit from Amazon but rather from a Chinese electronics dealer in my area.Haier is very popular in China and the machine came highly recommended by the dealer.

The dealer delivered it to me, set it up and away we went.I have had this unit for about a month and here are my comments:

1)The unit is quieter than a traditional laundry machine.
2) I have had no problems with balancing the machine or with water intake.It fills quickly so long as there is high water pressure.The machine balances itself by stopping and starting until the clothes are balanced.
3) The high water level can accommodate a lot of clothes.I do about 3 loads a week: shirts/undies, pants, and towels.
4)It uses a lot less soap than traditional washers (about half I would say)
5)The regular wash runs for about 45 mins which I found excessive.The quickwash runs for about 22 minutes and I find that my clothes are perfectly clean.I only use the regular wash for very soiled items.
6) My unit came with casters so I had no problem.You may also buy casters at the hardware store... the casters are fairly standard.
7) Hooking it up to the sink did require a trip to the hardware store but it was easy to find the adapter as I brought the intake hose with me.

(More customer reviews)I have had this product for a couple of months now. I have a rich history of trying to find something to take with me on the road to the improve hotel coffee situation. I started with a single cup Melitta electric drip coffee maker (remember those!), a Krups, a Velox, an electric Bialetti moka pot, an Aeropress, etc. I hate to go to a hotel, find a maker with coffee filters and think things are fine until 6 AM in the morning when you realize BOTH filters are de-caf! The hotel coffee makers range from OK to horrible! The coffee too!
I purchased the HandPresso out of desperation! I have a semi-professional espresso machine (VBM) and roast my own beans. I was not impressed with the ESE pods, but am VERY happy with them in the HandPresso! I like the idea I do not have to touch grounds in the morning like with the Aeropress. I carry a cup, some pods, and the HandPresso. I boil water (I am still looking for a very small electric boiling pot, but have an immersion coil), pump up the HandPresso, pre-heat my espresso cup and the water cup on the HandPresso, dump both, re-fill the HandPresso, pop in a pod, and in 25-seconds or so have a great shot of espresso! Got carried away one morning and had 4 in a row! WOW!
This device is extremely well made and and will probably last a long time. It will get field testing from me. Hope the TSA does not think it is some sort of nasty device in my bag!! The coffee pods give it away.

Haier HLP21N Pulsator 1-Cubic-Foot Portable Washer Review

(More customer reviews)I haven't had any leak problems. The strange noise I was hearing puzzled me. I also envy anybody who can buy this machine straight through Amazon. you lucky ducks you ;-) I had to pay forty dollars for shipping.

Please let me know if you do hear strange noises. I am curious as to how many people get coins stuck inside the drum. It actually took me a while to figure out where the noise was coming from and took the bottom and back panel off, but the noise still continued. I'm not sure how the quarter became stuck in there, and still baffles me to this day. Please keep me updated with any concerns regarding noises. Hopefully, other owners or myself can help.

As far as the effectiveness of the machine, 5 stars says it all. To note, this washer machine doesn't have a drum spindle (not sure what you call the part that takes up space in most washers), so you can actually fit many more articles or clothing and/or towels inside.

I bought this washer because the apartment I moved my family into after my husband died had no hook-ups for our standard washer and dryer. But I have five children, so going to the community laundry facility was not a good option. We have a lot of dirty clothes on a daily basis, so I needed a way to wash clothes at home every day.

I researched the available portable washers and decided to take a chance on the Avanti mostly because it had the largest capacity. With so many children, I needed to be able to wash a full sized load. The Avanti fits our needs wonderfully. It's full capacity is about 2/3's a regular full sized load on a standard machine, but it's still a lot of clothes. I can wash about 8 pairs of children's jeans, or 15 children's shirts, or any combination thereof. And I don't hook it up to the sink. I went down to our local hardware store and spoke with a plumbing associate who helped me find the right connections to hook it up to the water supply from my toilet. That means I wash everything in cold water, but that's fine with me. Not having to move it around is worth it. I attached an extension onto the drain hose so mine drains directly into the toilet as well.

The drain hose comes pre-installed on the left side (as you are facing the front of it), but the machine is made with ports on either side, and you can switch it to whichever side works best for you. It's a little hard to unsnap it and reattach it to the other side, but it's doable. It has a built in slot for the drain to hook onto on both sides of the machine as well, for when it's not draining into the sink. But if you have it drain into your toilet as I do, you need to purchase a tight fitting extension and leave it on the hook because the drain must sit at the level of the hook, otherwise the tub will never fill. I hope that makes sense. It's a physics thing, not a mistake.

Attaching it to the toilet water supply was easy, but the water supply hoses it came with were not high enough quality to do this without leaks. I had to buy higher pressure and tighter fitting washing machine supply hoses that went on tighter. Since the hoses are the same ones a standard washer uses, they're easy to find at any hardware store. I purchased high quality flexible steel hoses. The ones it comes with are soft plastic ones, with plastic heads that would never screw on tightly enough to not leak.

The washer itself it fabulous. It cleans the clothes really well, and it spins them out enough that line drying is actually possible. It's what I do everyday. I put in a load every evening, and hang them to dry and in the morning put everything away. The washer has a built in lint trap that is a nice feature, and a built in softener dispenser. The detergent goes in a drawer through which the water runs, so the detergent is mixed with the water as the machine fills.

It comes with lots of different wash settings, including a special "Jeans" setting, that does two rinses and an extra fast spin cycle to really get the water out of them. The water has three levels, and there are extra rinse options, and many more, like "Soak", "Normal", "Delicates".

This machine makes washing at home for a large family a reality. It's actually big enough to wash family sized loads, and it does a great job doing it. If you have a smaller family, this machine would more than meet your needs.

One last note, I find it cute that when a load is finished the machine chimes out the tune "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee". Perfect, because I really am joyful to have such a great appliance when I thought I was doomed to spending every Saturday at the laundry mat!

(More customer reviews)First off, this is NOT an air conditioner.If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you.It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well.It works by evaporating water.Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect.It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely.I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control

Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

I tried it out right away and I was immediately pleased by the weight (not too heavy), the handle configuration (on top, not on the side where handling and dexterity can get awkward) and the power of the motor and suction. I think it's pretty powerful for a small handheld vac. I really like the fact that it came with a hose and multiple attachments for tight corners and spaces. The cord is a decent length, too, although I wish they had cordless options for this model. The only real complaint I have is the powerful burst of air that shoots from the vents on each side. It's a powerful motor, so I understand that you have vent that air somehow, but it's so forceful that I notice it actually creates resistance against my leg when I hold it at my side. That gust of air can become problematic when trying to tackle a pile of dirt, but it's all about maneuvering and handling.

Other than that,I really like this thing! I put away that big, bulky vacuum I had to lug around, so that was a nice feeling. I highly recommend this for people who live in smaller units and condos and have limited storage space.

(More customer reviews)This unit is the original travel/portable humidifier.I shopped around and looked at the several imitators, but decided to go with the Air-O-Swiss name/reputation that I know and love.

This unit is tiny, and comes with a power adapter with both US and European plugs and a soft cloth carry bag.

I use it at McMurdo Station, Antarctica where the average humidity is in the single digits.It puts out less water than my full-size Air-O-Swiss unit at home, but a remarkable amount for a unit this size.

The blue light that others have complained about is fairly bright - as most blue LEDs are - but it's no brighter than most night-lights, and hasn't bothered my sleep.The blue light switches to a red light when the water runs out... kind of a nice heads-up feature if you don't have the output set high enough to see the "steam" coming from the spout.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to make this purchase again, and I'd replace this unit with the same if needed (unless or until Air-O-Swiss comes out with their own new replacement/upgrade).There are a couple other copies that are less expensive, but I haven't tried them - I went with the quality/service that I trusted at the cost of the higher price tag.

Portable Reverse Osmosis System 50 GPD Review

(More customer reviews)First off, you should know that anyone with some fundemental knowledge of water treatment can make one of these in their garage from catalog parts.That's exactly what this unit looks like, too.I bought it because it was cheap, but a week later I saw a better system advertised at the local home center for $20 less.

The unit I received came with a faucet adaptor.That's right, just one adaptor and it didn't fit anything in my house, so before I could use the unit I had to go to the store and get a part to mate the RO unit to a faucet.Once that was accomplished, I was able to make RO water right away, and the best I can tell, the unit works properly.It does, however, have a terrible rejection rate; something in the range of 10:1 reject to product water. This is much to high for city water, even on a bad day.This is probably because the city water pressure is too low, but there is no way to tell.There is no information in the instruction regarding pressure requirements.

Part of the problem with the unit is the instuctions are nearly worthless.They look like a third generation copy spit out of a copier in need of a good cleaning.There is nothing in the instructions about the minimum or maximum operating pressure, nothing about recovery rate, no troubleshooting guidance and the print is blurry.Unless you have a good idea what your doing already, you might want to try somebody else's product.

The good news is that the unit is truely portable and requires no power whatsoever to operate.You could probably use it on a camping trip if you had a hand pump or some other way to develope enough pressure to operate the unit.It is compact, but the tubing array just hangs loose with no provisions for storage or detaching, making it somewhat difficult to store neatly.Overall, not a very well thought out product, and more expensive than it should be.

(More customer reviews)Before I bought this product I did plenty of online research on alkaline water.I was trying to understand what the benefits were and why people would pay thousands of dollars for the water ionizers.Some of the conclusions that I came to was that the alkalinity of the water was not the beneficial aspect of the water ionizers, but rather the antioxidant effects of the water.As I understand, the antioxidant effects of water or solution is measured in ORPs, which stands for Oxidation Reduction Potential, also called Redox.ORPs also measure the oxidizing effects of water.
The effects of oxidation can be witnessed when metal rusts, when a sliced apple browns, or when a material is burning.Oxidation probably works similarly in the human body, though I am not a biologist or scientist and cannot make any claims.It seems that this is why antioxidants are so popular and said to be such an important part of the body's diet.If oxidation has the effect of breaking down, then antioxidants could be said to have the effect of building up, or at least not breaking down.Please do your own research to verify the accuracy of this information.
We were contemplating purchasing one of the less expensive water ionizers ($700 range), but it didn't seem to make sense when some of the portable and inexpensive water ionizers such as this stick were making claims of producing negative ORP, which would be antioxidant water (I think).The expensive machines claim to produce water with an ORP in the range of anywhere from -200 to as high (or low) as -1100.As you might guess, ORP in the negative range is an antioxidant, whereas ORP in the positive range is an oxidant (again I think).I don't know where exactly the transition point is, meaning if 0 ORP is perfectly neutral or not.
So I decided to purchase a digital ORP meter ($100) that also measured pH at the same time I ordered the portable ionizer sticks (I ordered a NewCell Alkaline Hydrogen Portable Water Ionizer Stick and a Alkaline Hydrogen Water Stick aka Diet Water Ion Stick), since using a meter is the only way to determine the ORP and this is the critical measurement.Fortunately everything arrived at the same time.Over the next few days I ran a battery of tests using different waters and taking measurements before using the stick and after.The tests were performed in my kitchen and not highly controlled, although I did do my best by rinsing everything with each new sample using the water of that particular sample as the rinse.By the way, the two portable ionizer sticks were identical, the only difference was that one cost twice as much.
Per the instructions on the portable water ionizer I placed the stick inside of a water bottle and shook for 30 seconds, then let sit for 20 minutes.I took before and after samples.Here are the results of the tests:

These first two tests I did out of the box, the remaining 7 I did a few days later.

Conclusions:As you can see from the results the ionizer sticks had the most significant effects on the distilled and tap waters.Also, I forgot to remove the stick one morning and it sat in the water for almost 2 hours.It raised the pH of the water by about another half point from the standard results but had no appreciable effects on the ORP.It seems that shaking the water vigorously for a longer period of time will get you lower ORP.
I think that these products are definitely worth the money, and I would recommend purchasing an ORP meter if you are serious about getting the results you want.

Once you get through security...the x-ray security techs do look at the Travel Brita as some kind of security issue, but after you explain to them what it is, they are fine with it. After all the hoopla, you are ready to fill your Travel Brita at any water fountain or even in the bathroom sink. Once filtered, you can pour the filtered water into your own empty water bottle and save up to $4 a bottle for drinkable great tasting water. It is a minor inconvenience but well worth it when you consider the price of bottled water in the kiosks and restarants!I also used the Travel Brita at the hotel.The tap water was awful, like the airport water. I recommend changing the filter after 3 weeks of airport/hotel use. It seems the filter does break down at some point there after and the metal and awful taste returns after being filtered with the old filter.
