The popularity of water filtration pitchers has spawned a number of water filtration pitcher products by other companies, most notably the maker of the PUR Water Filtration System (a division of Proctor and Gamble). This model has been discontinued but Brita has come up another "classic" - the Brita 35548 Classic Pitcher, which is more of a pseudo classic with a modern twist.

The Brita Classic Pitcher uses the Brita 35503 Pitcher Replacement Filters (3 Pack). The replacement filters also come in a 5 Pack.

Effectiveness

Brita claims that its filters are able to eliminate 99% of lead and reduce mercury, copper, cadmium, and zinc contaminants. In many areas, municipal ground water can have a bad taste and odor. The water in my area tastes absolutely horrible! Brita is able to effectively reduce bad taste, bad odor, and chlorine to make the water much more palatable.

Everyone needs to help keep plastic water bottles out of the earth and for them, they save a lot as well which is good since they're on a limited budget.Water tastes great and the filter lasts twice as long as the competition.The timer on the top helps as well so they don't have to think about when they need to replace the filter.The timer tells them.Great product!

(More customer reviews)I received this as a wedding gift (my colors were purple...HOW PERFECT!). This pitcher is awesome! I used to buy bottled water to encourage myself to drink more water each day, but it just gets too expensive, this pitcher seemed like a wonderful alternative, now I can fill my own water bottles :) I can't stand the flavor of water that is filtered using the reverse-osmosis filtration method, which is what almost ALL water companies use for some reason. Arrowhead is one of the only companies I have found that doesn't use the reverse-osmosis method of filtration, that is by far my preferred brand of bottled water. I was hoping to find a simple at home filtration method to cut costs, and save plastic waste, but achieve the same great flavor that Arrowhead offers (instead of the chemical under-taste that reverse-osmosis water has). I FOUND IT!! The Brita Pitcher is well constructed with thick durable plastic and it filters the water very quickly and in minutes, from tap through filter to your glass, you have a refreshing and great tasting glass of water! I was concerned that the water would taste just like tap water since it passes through the filter so fast, but it doesn't...there is a definite difference, A GREAT DIFFERENCE! The pitcher has a digital readout on top (battery life approx 5 yrs) that you set when you replace the filter and then as the 4 bars diminish (1 bar every 2 wks) you are well aware of when you will need to replace the filter, no guesswork. Filter replacement is very easy, soak it in water for a little bit, rinse it off, put it in the pitcher top and you're ready to go! I usually filter 2 pitchers full of water through the new filter just to clear out some of the charcoal dust, I don't know if that is necessary or not, the water comes through crystal clear every time. I do notice that the first few glasses of water through the new filter taste slightly different, but not in a bad way...and then they all seem to taste the same for the next 2 months until I replace the filter again. The filters can seem a bit expensive, but I buy the pack of 6, which will last 1 year, and they end up paying for themselves very quickly! Overall, I would definitely recommend this item to anyone! If you have a large family I would probably recommend getting the larger size pitcher...there's just me and my husband and we have to refill the pitcher once daily on average.

Mavea 1001127 Marella Water Filtration Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)Recently I replaced my original PUR pitcher with this very attractive Mavea pitcher and I'm happy with it.The water tastes as good, if not a little better, than my PUR-filtered water.I have no way to run a scientific test on the two pitchers, just going by my taste buds, and that's what matters to me.

My city water comes from a reservoir that has an algae problem every summer, and this year it started earlier than normal; the chemicals used to treat the algae taste so bad I gag when brushing my teeth.This filter removes the bad taste, along with many other chemicals that are present in our water.It does NOT remove the fluoride though.

The pitcher is constructed similar to the PUR with the double chamber.This is the cheaper model of the Mavea pitchers, and this one has a timer on top; it keeps track of time only, not how many pitchers of water have been filtered through.To get a pitcher that keeps track of the amount of water filtered through, you would have to purchase the Elemaris model.In either pitcher model the battery lasts around 5 years according to the literature, but it's not replaceable, so the pitcher needs replaced every 5 years, if you want to continue to use the gauge.

I love the flip-up lid to refill the water; the only time you have to remove the entire lid is to replace the filter or wash out the pitcher.Initially the entire lid is hard to snap on to the pitcher, but with the tight fit that will mean that it won't come off when pouring.

This does fit inside my refrigerator door, but I have the extra large shelves that hold gallon jugs.Not so sure it will fit if you have smaller shelves in your door.

BPA-free plastic is used in all the parts of the pitcher, and Mavea also has a filter recycling program if you are into that.They will provide the postage to ship the filters back to them, but you have to wait until you accumulate 6 filters before returning.

You don't have to soak a new filter like you do with the PUR filters, but you need to run 2 pitchers of water through a new filter before drinking.I hope Amazon continues to stock the replacement filters as I know of no other place that sells them...hopefully, this brand of water pitcher will catch on and they will be easier to find in the future.

(More customer reviews)I have been using Brita water pitchers for a few years and I am a big fan of it. The taste of the water is very nice. It eliminates the need to buy dozens of bottled water every month and it helps the environment because it reduces the waste made from the plastic bottles. The previous pitcher that I have been using was poorly designed, but this pitcher is very much improved from the older ones. It's silm shape fits better in the fridge and the lid doesn't fall off when you pour, which happend quite frequently with the older model. The smaller lid is my favorite feature of this pitcher which makes filling it so easy. The electric timer is a TIMER, not a SENSOR. You reset the timer when you change the filter and the timer will count down 2 months, which is the usual lifespan of the filter.

Over all, a very nice water filtering pitcher. If you're sick of the plastic water bottles I would definitely recomend this product. Plus helps keep the environment clean!

You can really taste the difference in the water. No additional appliance to run (Deer Park dispenser was our previous water source).
One note: you have to turn the water faucet off as soon as the little door starts to raise up, otherwise it will overfill the reservior and either leak out around the handle area or "contaminate" your filtered water with water that has not yet been filtered.
I'm really glad that they're a "greener" company that recycles and we feel better about the reduction in energy use both by eliminating the delivery of water & running a hot/cold cooler constantly.

Mavea Maxtra Replacement Filter for Mavea Water Filtration Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)Some reviewers are complaining about the timer not working properly.If you read the description for the pitcher you'll have an answer to your question.I didn't and ended up contacting Mavea who explained why the timer on my pitcher ticked down to 0% after only 3 weeks of use.The timer is not simply a clock like you get with the Brita filter.Theirs is a dummy clock that ticks down 2 months regardless of how often you fill it.Mavea claims their timer is more sophisticated than that.It also factors in the hardness of the water and the amount of water you put into the pitcher. My city water is hard (14) and we refill the pitcher quite a bit...even though there's only 2 of us plus a dog in this household.I'm home all day and I drink a lot of water.The dog gets filtered water too in his bowl. :)

So that explains why the timer is not giving all of us the same information.I'd rather know my filter is nearing its usefulness than to not know and keep drinking water from it.

The extra filter keeps those nasty charcoal bits out of my water.I was constantly emptying the Brita pitcher to remove charcoal that had sunk to the bottom of the pitcher.Brita says that's Ok, you can drink the charcoal.No thank you, I'd rather my water pitcher not look like someone has been panning for gold.

The company that makes this Mavea pitcher used to own Brita.After they sold it to Clorox they proceeded to design a better product which turned out to be this water filtration pitcher. Another improvement was to make it out of BPA-free plastic.

Even though I'll have to buy more filters (3-packs) I'm still happy I switched to this brand.

Mavea Elemaris XL Water Filtration Pitcher Review

(More customer reviews)We replaced the Brita pitcher that we have used for several years with this one. One thing that bothers me about the Brita filters is how the carbon particles keep escaping into the top compartment of the pitcher. It doesn't hurt anything, but it looks bad to me. Mavea's filters haven't had that problem so far. However, their claim that you don't have to soak the filter is not quite true: you have to run two pitchers of water through a new filter to activate it. This is even more trouble than soaking.

The self-opening and closing lid works well. You never have to remove the lid or flip it up. The only catch is that you have to stop pouring water in when it first starts to close. If you keep filling until it closes completely, water leaks out the top of the lid down the handle and interior sides of the pitcher.

We wanted a larger capacity pitcher than the 40 ounce Brita slim pitcher we were replacing. The 3.5 liter Elemaris XL size fits the bill. Be forewarned that the fully filled pitcher is quite heavy at 9 pounds. The contoured, rubberized grip makes it easier to deal with.
