(More customer reviews)This is the carafe you need for any beverage you want to keep hot or cold as long as possible. Thermax insulation is a vacuum space where all the air has been removed from between two layers of stainless steel. It is the most efficient and compact form of insulation you can get in a carafe, and it's unbreakable.

This type carafe beats any of the foam or glass models hands down, but it's more expensive, too. I had a glass model for years and years, and this one holds more liquid in a smaller sized pitcher and it keeps it hot for much longer. As an example, I've gone back to the carafe after about seven hours and poured the last cup of coffee that was just as flavorful and almost as hot as it was when it went in the carafe.

Now here are some things to think about. First, the within described product (the Nissan TGS1000) is a 1 liter or 34 ounce size. It will NOT hold 10 to 12 cups of coffee; the standard measure for a coffee cup is 6 ounces so this model will hold just over 5 cups. The carafe you want for maximum capacity is the Nissan Thermos TGS1500 that is 1.5 liters or 51 ounces; it will hold just under 12 cups.

Second, while the product is described as dishwasher-safe, you don't want to put it in the dishwasher. The exterior has a clear coating that will dull and chip off in the dishwasher. The best way to maintain it is to scrub the interior with a bottle brush, and, if you use detergent, rinse very thoroughly.

Third, the screw-on stopper is quirky. It seals very well to help keep in heat since heat rises even in an insulated carafe. However, it uses a push lever to dispense the liquid and then the stopper does not drain well for dispensing or cleaning. The best way to clean it is to rinse and then shake out all the water so it dries between uses.

The bottom line...this product does an admirable job of keeping beverages very hot or very cold for long periods of time and it looks nice. It's just not very easy to clean.

Bodum Biasca 40-Ounce Glass Iced Tea Maker Review

(More customer reviews)Had previously owned the Bodum Ceylon 51oz Iced Tea Pitcher, but the "infuser" was useless from the start and the lid broke after a few uses... so I was excited to see the Biasca Ice Tea Jug as an updated ice tea solution.

First off - please note that this is a COLD BREW iced tea maker which requires 5-6 hours of cold steeping in the fridge.This also means that hot water should never be used.The idea behind a cold brew is to cut down the bitterness or astringency of regular brew iced tea, and also to enhance the more subtle flavors of whichever leaf you're using.

This process and jug produces a very soft, light and delicate iced tea.If you're looking for brisk - keep looking.Even adding heaps of extra tea does not go far in strengthening a cold brew.

Regarding the Biasca, I LOVE the design - my version had a bright green lid and looked fun and modern.The overall size of the jug is also appreciated as it has a small diameter and a comfortable, slim handle.Plus the lid is fantastic - a good rubber seal and a fine mesh that keeps all leaves in the jug and out of your mug.Wonderful!

I wish I could continue enjoying that wonderful design, however, on only my second use, I set a full jug back in the fridge and the bottom two inches of the jug broke off and sent glass and thousands of tiny tea leaves all over my fridge and kitchen floor.

Be warned - this item is extremely fragile!I did not bang or slam the jug against anything, not did I use hot water - and yet it still broke.I'm sure you'll have better luck than I if you understand this going in.Treat it with kid gloves and I'm sure it will be a great iced tea maker for you!

But for me, being that this is the second Bodum tea product that has broken within a few uses, I think I'm calling it a day with their iced tea goods.

As a side note - I'm still a fan of Bodum products. I own many Bodum glasses and a glass teapot and have not had any issues with those even after a few years of use.Just something about their iced tea items....

Medelco 4 Cup Glass Universal Replacement Carafe - White Review

(More customer reviews)The best 4 cup carafe I have used, Universal Carafe, is no longer available on Amazon and the Mr. Coffee replacement carafe's lid breaks very easily.

The nice thing about this carafe is that comes with two adapters to adjust the height of the lid and the price is reasonable. But the spout is badly designed, is small with no downward slant, so the coffee dribbles when you pour. You have to pour slowly and keep a paper towel underneath.

Even the stainless steel Medelco carafe has the same problem. You'd think somebody in the company would pour coffee from the decanter before putting it up for sale. Guess not. The dribbling is really messy and inconvenient.

Mr. Coffee ISD13 12-Cup Replacement Decanter for FT and IS Series, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this replacement because the original one would leak from the black piece, water gets trapped in between the glass & the black top piece (not lid) and drips down the side after turning right side up after filling water tank. This replacement does the same thing so I believe it to be a manufacture flaw. This is the only replacement I have found to fit my coffee maker:(

Zojirushi Premium Thermal Carafe Review

(More customer reviews)I have tried a half dozen different brands over the years and this brand is excellent.I was in a coffee shop in Asheville NC and got a cup of coffee from a larger version of this product.I remarked to the server that the coffee was certainly hot and that he must have just made a fresh pot.He said the coffee was about 4 hours old and said his wife (the owner of the shop) had tested about a half dozen different brands of carafes prior to deciding on Zojirushi.He said she found it the best on the market.He indicated that they frequently take excess coffee from the day home and have it straight from the carafe the next morning and find it hot.
I got the product name and went to Amazon to read the reviews on this product prior to purchasing and was therefore aware of the problems identified by the reviewers here.I have now owned the carafe for about a year and use it most days.I usually run hot water into the carafe and let it heat up the container prior to pouring coffee and sealing it.I have kept coffee very hot for over 24 hours.Of course, the secret is to always close the carafe (check the slot to insure it is closed) back immediately after pouring a cup.I also wash the top in a dishwasher after use.This allows water to enter the top (as noted by one reviewer).I turn the top so that the horizontal hole in the side is at the bottom and the water pours out.I shake it a few times and it is good to go.
I find the product more than adequate to prevent coffee from tasting stale.I frequently make 10-12 cups of coffee at a time and pour a few cups then put the remainder into a carafe and seal it until further use.I find the coffee hours later as good as a freshly made cup of coffee.I usually drink the carafe of coffee within 4-6 hours.
After using several other similar products I find this product superior to those products therefore warranting a 5-star rating.
The one disadvantage was the higher price but after a year of use from a value consideration, it is worthwhile.
