(More customer reviews)I have owned this filter for a couple years now and it works brilliantly, it always quickly gets the water crystal clear after I have muddied up the water from cleaning the aquarium, it is very easy to use and clean except for the biological media bouncing all over the place like bacteria infused Kix cereal and the priming feature is brilliant. Also this thing is in the open in my bedroom and I can't hear a thing as long as I put a pad under it so it doesn't vibrate against floor. The only complaint I have is the water pressure dropping over the years. When I first bought it, the ecco 2234 would put so much pressure into the tank it turned it into a river with the current, the fish used to go swim in the current like salmon. Unfortunately no amount of cleaning and scrubbing and replacing filters gets the pressure and water circulation back to what it was when I first bought it. I had purchased this for a tank that is half the size the filter is rated for so the filter does absolutely fine even with the weak pressure. I would recommend this filter, however make sure you buy one that is rated for a much larger tank.

(More customer reviews)First of all, this humidifier is quiet.I keep it next to my bed and the very faint noise doesn't bother me at all.I use only distilled water in it.That's a little expensive, but I can get one-gallon jugs at Wal-Mart for sixty four cents, so it's better than having white dust all over the room.This model has a "white dust" filter, but most such filters are iffy at best.

Now for the problems.Filling is a pain.If it's not completely empty, water remains in the base, which tends to drip and spill when you lift the tank off for re-filling.So I carry the whole unit to the sink just to make sure I don't get water all over my carpet.(Water can spill if you don't keep the unit level.)Further, the refill opening is on the bottom, so you have to turn the tank upside down to fill it.The tank top is slanted, so you can't set it down.You have to hold the tank with one hand, and fill with the other.It's a very clumsy process.

The last thing I have to say is the blue light is incredibly annoying.It lights up your whole bedroom and can't be turned off.I wrap a towel around it.What were they thinking?Sure, it looks cool, until you try to go to sleep.

Overall,though, it works nicely and has been quiet, which is exactly why I bought it and am keeping it.If you are elderly or arthritic, the girations you need to go through to fill it may cause you to look elsewhere.

(More customer reviews)Ok, in my family, I am the only one who drinks coffee.My wife does not.This coffee maker is perfect for myself.It allows me two full 14oz mugs of coffee without wasting an entire pot on just myself.

Most 10-12 cup coffee makers don't do a good job of making smaller amounts of coffee for those of us that may have a single coffee drinker family.The coffee is either lukewarm or not strong enough when trying to make a smaller batch.My wife doesn't like coffee so I am stuck either getting an expensive single K-cup style coffee maker, pod maker or a 4-cup drip brewer.However, thanks to the Hamilton Beach 48274 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, I can end my search for the perfect solution.

The Brew Station makes an excellent, piping hot cup of coffee.It is said to be a 6-cup brewer and that may be the case for a regular 5oz mug.But for me, I use a 14oz mug and this brewer makes exactly two full mugs of coffee with none to spare.The coffee maker does an excellent job of keeping the coffee hot until needed, without continuously cooking the coffee or burning it.The programming is easy to use, and the overall design is simple enough once you get used to filling the water reservoir.I immediately ran three brewing cycles of just water once I opened the box and then made my first batch.There was no plastic taste or any other chemical taste to my coffee.

Other reviews have stated their Brew Station leaked, but mine does not.There is a little plastic arm that swings out over the coffee ground basket which dispenses the water.I could see that if this arm was not swung out over the basket, it might leak out the back.Also, the actual dispensing mechanism might be another place for leakage if there are coffee grounds or some object stuck between the valve and gasket so be sure to make sure this area has no coffee grounds in it prior to using.Again, I have not had this problem and don't anticipate that I will as I am really careful to not get coffee grounds in the coffee reservoir and always make sure the arm is over the brewing basket.

Others have mentioned that 8-12 cup filters don't fit this maker.The manual does not state which size filter to use either.I have found that 4-cup filters are a perfect fit for this maker and most likely what Hamilton Beach intended.Walmart sells 200 of these filters for around one dollar.If they aren't on the coffee aisle at Walmart, then check where the coffee makers themselves are sold as Walmart tends to sell things in multiple locations inside a store.

Overall, I am very pleased with this maker especially considering the price.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this ultrasonic humidifier a year ago for my two boys, who seem to always be congested either with colds or seasonal allergies or due to the dry air from our A/C. Prior to having this one, we went through a couple humidifiers (either warm or cool mist) a season because they either broke down, didn't do a good enough job, leaked, or were too difficult to clean. This humidifier works like a DREAM and is so very VERY easy to clean. I love that I can turn the dial to output the desired amount of mist. It's super quiet, too. I know others have said they've had problems with theirs being too noisy or becoming noisy after awhile, but I have not experienced that problem. I've also read that some complain about the demineralization cartridge not working for as long as stated or costing too much. I can agree and sympathize there, but folks...you don't have to buy that cartridge. Just use distilled water. It does the same job, and you can pick up the gallong jugs from your grocery store. While this humidifier IS easy to clean, the manufacturer recommends you do clean the water tank every two to three weeks - as well as the water inlet and ultrasonic nebulizer, which are behind a panel that pops off. Don't forget that little bit of maintenance; it's important. I have to say, I LOVE that there are no mold issues with this humidifier compared to other cheaper ones I have used. All in all, after having gone through a multitude of humidifiers before purchasing this one I would recommend it hands down. Best humidifier purchase yet!

* Size/Weight/Move-ability 10/10 -- I think the size and weight are fine, the unit is heavy (~50lbs) but not so heavy that you can't lift it from the box, it does have handles on the side to grab, and rolls in any direction on casters.It's not very large, about the size of a modern dehumidifier or mini-fridge

* Front Panel/Controls 5/10 -- The controls are straight forward and easy to use, the exception being that when you're in the "AUTO" mode you can not adjust the fan speed, it's a little odd.The big problem, and why I rate it 5/10 is that there are six SUPER BRIGHT LEDs on the front of the unit, as far as I can tell they serve no purpose whatsoever, they are simply there and they are on whenever the unit is on.When it's bright in the room it's not a big deal, but at night when you're trying to sleep this is a big issue, I'm probably going to have to cut out little wedges of electrical tape or something to stick over them.It comes with an IR remote that lets you control it as well.The display on the front will show the room temperature normally and when you are adjusting the temperature controls up and down it will change to show the desired temp for a few seconds.One note here is that the unit seems to stop cooling even when you're a good 5*F or so away from the desired temp--Example, it was 78* in my room last night and I set the unit for 73* it was running for a while but when the temp hit 77* the compressor shut off for a very long time and the room started to feel hot, temp went back up to 78* and it clicked back on... this may just be a quirk with my unit or something, but my window-mounted a/c will keep running until their ambient temp sensors equal the desired temp setting.

* Window Adapter/Hose 8/10 -- This is a single hose model, that means that it sucks air from the room to blow over the condenser (hot part) and then that air is blown outside; something to keep in mind is that you are sucking air from the room which means you are blowing your "conditioned" air outside as part of the normal process, as a result this unit will not cool a room as efficiently as a dual-hose model or a window/wall unit which both use outside air to cool the condenser--so this 10kBTU model will not cool a room as well as a 10kBTU window unit (it might be more comparable to a 7-8kBTU?).The window/hose adapters are decent quality, the only complaint I have is that I wish the adapter were "taller", my window sill is about 1" high, as a result the hose hits the sill before it the adapter hits the base, this isn't a big deal, but just wanted to note it.Another thing to note, some people complain about the window adapters not sealing very well--this one seems to do an OK job, the window just closes on the flat top of the adapter as a seal.The thing to keep in mind w/ these portable a/c's is that having a fantastic seal is not really expected or needed for the unit to operate, you get just as much air leakage around window mounted a/c's.The window adapter, hose adapter and hose are all well constructed and made of good materials--one tip: first screw the hose onto the unit, then screw the wide-mouth adapter thing onto the hose, THEN put the wide-mouth adapter into the window adapter, if you buy this you'll see what I mean :)

* Cooling/Air Output 10/10 -- Works great!Very cold air, and it blows the air fast out of the vent, much better then my window mounted units which feel like they just dribble out air sometimes

* Noise 7/10 -- First: It makes noise, all air conditioners do, if you need silence to sleep then you need another solution other then window/portable a/c's, I can sleep with the "white noise" of a fan/motor running.The unit is no louder then my 8kBTU window-mount unit when operating with and without it's compressor running; however, the reason I give it a 7/10 is that the unit tends to make more noise when the compressor turns on and off then my window unit does, in addition the compressor cycles on/off very often and for short periods, which exacerbates the issue.So far it has been waking me up, and that's not good, it remains to be seen if I can used to the noise, or this will become an awake-only unit.

* Draining 5/10 -- With low room humidity this unit should be able to exhaust most of the water out with the waste air, which means no draining... but with high humidity you need to drain the unit, this an issue on this unit because unlike other units it does not drain into a bucket which can be removed and dumped out.With this unit you need to put a "shallow pan", as the instructions say, under the drain cock and open it... well this pan needs to be really shallow (see my user submitted image) because the drain cock is only about 1-2" off the floor!I can envision this being a real nightmare to empty and I'm not looking forward to really humid daysOverall I think this is a decent portable a/c, and I'm hopeful that it will work out.

Summarized my main concerns are:
1) Does not have a bucket to empty, if it needs draining that will be very difficult w/o a bucket
2) Front Panel LEDs are super bright and always on, makes it difficult to sleep
3) Compressor makes more noise then expected when starting/stopping, this wakes me up at night

Summarized the pro's are:
1) Very good air output--lots of volume and pressure
2) Cold output!Great for spot cooling, move the unit near you and you'll freeze your butt off even if the rest of the room is warmer then you might like
3) Easy to move around on the casters
4) Reasonable price

Eheim ECCO External Canister Filter 2236 Review

(More customer reviews)We've had aquatic turtles for about a year now, that we keep in a 75 gallon aquarium. (soon moving to a 125gal. tank) Anybody that keeps turtles knows how much work can be involved in keeping their tank clear and clean. When we first started we were unsure of what we needed to do the job but we knew we needed something that could keep up with the demand turtles require in water filtration. Our inquires at the local pet supply store led us to use a Fluval canister system. This is also a great system but after a short time we came to realize that it just wasn't enough so we went out and got a Marineland Magnum 350 to compliment the Fluval. Between the two the tank was adequately filtered, but cleaning the Magnum was a pain, the Fluval was a little easier but still not as user friendly as the Eheim. Because filtration was just adequate we started feeding the turtles in a separate smaller tank to try and minimize food and turtle feces from the main tank. This helped quite alot but we still required yet another filtration system as we had moved the Fluval to the smaller tank. This is when we purchased the Eheim 2236 system. This filter in my opinion is much easier to maintain than he Magnum and Fluval systems. The only down side is priming the pump after cleaning as the self priming feature does not work as well as the others but it is, by far, much much easier to disassemble and clean than the other two. Had the priming mechanism worked better I would have given this a 5/5. This is our second Eheim 2236. We had to replace the original because our child did not reestablish water flow after a cleaning, and the pump head overheated and died.

Eheim Canister Filter Classic Plus - 2215 - up to 93 Gallon Review

(More customer reviews)OK, there just simply isn't a better filter on the market. With the intake on the bottom and the exhaust on the top, there is simply no place for water to bypass the media and hence the filtration is far more efficient. Some people complain that the filter is quite difficult to clean. However, the manual shows an easy way to do this. I have kept mine without cleaning for 3 months or and my heavily planted fresh water aquarium has been doing great. The media is reusable and reusable and reusable. Get my point? :-)
They are extremely efficient. A bit more expensive that the rest of canister filters out in the market. But in the long run, these are better since they last longer and the rarely break down.

PUR Ultimate Faucet Mount Review

When you first attach the PUR filter, it works beautifully. Water comes out fast, and comes out clean. But fairly soon, and well before the filter is supposedly used up, the filter cuts down on the flow as it gets more and more clogged. After a while it can take 30 seconds to fill up a glass of water. Ours also has a leakage problem that is exacerbated the more clogged the filter is (the leak comes from the plastic covering that tells you how used up the filter is)...Don't know if ours is defective or if this is typical.
We have since bought a PUR pitcher filtration system, and that seems to be more convenient to use because you don't have to sit there like a ... waiting for your glass to fill up.
PUR is superior to BRITA filters, by the way, because they also filter giardia and cryptosporidium, two bacteria that can cause intestinal illnesses. This is especially important if you live in areas with iffy water systems (i.e. St. Petersburg, Russia, which is full of giardia/Mexico) or if you have a weak immune system.
The PUR filters work out to about 25 cents per gallon of filtered water. It costs more to filter dirtier water and less to filter cleaner water.
When you finally throw out the used filter, try cracking it open and having a look at all the nasty gunk that you didn't put into your body. It's definitely worth the price, don't you think?

Krups FLF2-J4 Cordless Electric 54-Ounce Water Kettle, Black Review

(More customer reviews)The kettle's appearance is nice. It has high power and boils fast. Due to design of the lid the water is tightly covered so there is less evaporation.
Here are the problems.

1) The stainless floor becomes spotted and uneven really fast (faster than with my previous Braun kettle).

2) On my first unit power switch was malfunctioning. It took me 2-3-4 attempts before I could start it. I replaced the kettle with a new one and had the very same problems.

The bottom line.
If you decide to buy, don't do it online. Buy at some place where you can easily replace the kettle if the first (second, third etc.) one is defective.

I decided to return this kettle and buy Braun for the same price.Update 08/08/2008
After half a year I decided to give it another try and bought a new black Krups Kettle from Bad Bath And Beyond again. I hoped that they produced a new batch with the known defect fixed. Nothing has improved. The third kettle is also defective in exactly the same way - power switch doesn't work properly and turns the kettle off several seconds after turning on.

(More customer reviews)I have been using my Eheim 2213 for 19 years now, and have never had to replace any parts, until now.It is an incredible filter, that keeps everything in the tank clear and fresh.The only complaint I have has already been fixed.The double shutoff connections that they've added will make cleaning it so much easier.19 years ago, they didn't have these, but I may buy some extras.I've heard that the only downfall for Eheim is ordering replacement parts.The only thing needing replacement is the suction cups that hold the parts in place inside of the tank.Everything else is wonderful!

I would definitely recommend this to others.Especially with a good price for a canister filter.

Never mind trying to pour with it, just carrying it to the refrigerator without the lid falling off is a challenge. It should go without saying that Brita should be able to filter water. That's what the company does. The water is great. It will save us a bunch of money. It's the right thing to do for the environment. But come on, Brita. You're based in Oakland, CA. Get some of those smart people from Cal or Stanford to work on your design or QA or something. Manufacturing somewhere that you lost track of?
