(More customer reviews)These filter replacements are very easy to install.You just turn the machine upside-down, unloosen 4 screws and remove the cover. Then pull out the dirty filter and pre-filter and discard in a plastic bag, wipe out the interior with a damp cloth and put in the new filter and pre-filter.It took me about 5 minutes to complete the whole operation.These filters are supposed to last 5 years but I use it in a room that is quite dusty and find that 3 years is about right.It still is cheaper than filters I've used in the past that had to be replaced more often.

I bought the Austin Healthmate Jr. about 5 years ago when I was looking for a HEPA filter and have been happy with it. The three things I like best about it are that you don't have to buy filters very often because you can vacuum the outside of the filter and that it's relatively quiet. The other thing is that it takes air in on all four sides and blows the filtered air out through the top area. It seems to do a good job of filtering the air. It's more energy efficient than air purifiers I've used in the past and it has 3 speeds which is nice.

If you use it in really dusty conditions like mine, you can replace the pre-filter more often than the big filter. I've found this type of material that I could cut to fit at a local hardware store. You get a pre-filter with it. You have to take it apart to replace the pre-filter and filters, but it isn't difficult. You can turn off the machine and vacuum it from the outside and that seems to help the filters last longer. Of course, you'll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter or you defeat the purpose. I replace mine about once a year, but I think the average person could go much longer.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't really have any way of measuring how good of a job it does, only that it seems to do a good job in terms of allergies, odors, etc. There are so many air filters out there and so many claims, that it's hard to sort them out. But if I had to buy a filter for another room, I would probably buy this brand again.

Blueair Smokestop Filter for 402 Air Purifier Review

(More customer reviews)You're probably completely shocked that this Smokestop Filter costs as much as it does. But trust me, if you have any problems with odors, it's worth EVERY penny.

I normally use the regular Blueair filter for the 402, but I purchased the Smokestop after my neighborhood was flooded with horrible fumes from a nearby methane gas leak. The authorities deemed the gases as harmless, so no evacuations were ordered. However, being very sensitive to fumes of any kind, I became very ill. With no other place to go, I put the Smokestop filter into my 402 and moved the air cleaner into my smallest bedroom, where I camped out for the next couple of days. A trip to any other room of the house left me feeling nauseous, dizzy, with a raging headache and difficulty breathing within minutes (but the fumes were "harmless"!!). The room with the Blueair equipped with the Smokestop filter was absolutely free of odor. It was incredible.

Since not everyone has methane gas leaks permeating their homes (thankfully!), you may never get the chance to test the filter in this way. But it no doubt works wonders with cigarette smoke and other offensive odors that waft into your home.

The filter has 2 "chambers." One filled with activated charcoal, and the other with the familiar Blueair patented white filter. So it doesn't just stop with odors, it still cleans particles from the air with great efficiency, and best of all, Q-U-I-E-T-ly. Just remember to change it after 6 months, even if it means going back to the regular (and cheaper) filter. Happy breathing!

SEPT. 2008 ADDENDUM: I had another fume problem, this time, toxic deck sealant fumes from a home repair seeping into the house. I purchased another Smokestop filter and this time I noticed an odor coming from the filter itself. It's not horrible, but I had become so sensitive to odors after a week of sealant exposure that it made me feel sick. I left the Blueair on high and it has reduced the smell after a few days. To be fair, despite the filter smell, the deck sealant odor was neutralized. And finally, I have a balcony-smoking neighbor, and as soon as secondhand smoke wafts into my bedroom, I turn up the Blueair and the smoke odor is gone in a flash. Just be aware of the initial odor from the filter itself. I'd say I'm dropping my rating to 4 stars, or 3.8 if I could.

I run the humidifier all winter to keep my acoustic guitars at the proper humidity.

(More customer reviews)I'm not trying to be lame, but this is a replacement filter (the exact type that came with the SU-4010) -- I cannot really get too excited over a water filter. I have no measurement equipment to even know if filters make a difference, but I'm going to assume they do.This fits and works perfectly with the SU-4010, which if you want an awesomely awesome humidifier I don't think you could do better.The SU-4010 is essentially silent and easily gets even larger rooms up to 80+% humidiy if needed.I have extreme excema, I keep the unit on 24/7 on its lowest output setting -- keeps the room or rooms at about 65-70% humidity and it has no problem keeping up. Go buy the SU-4010, then order a few of these filter to have on hand.I do think they should have them in different colours...then I might be more excited by their arrival.Neon purple anyone?

We use the larger ZeroWater2-part container on top of the same watercooler that used the large 5-gallon bottles. That water tastes great and is crystal-clear. My only complaint is the cost of the filters. Brookstone sold the 4-pak for $29.99 last year, but it's up to $52.99 now which is only a bit cheaper than Home Depot's $60.00 price. If it weren't for that high cost, I would have rated the water filtration system 5 stars.

This is important because standard 53 is for the reduction of Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-Dichlorobenzene,Toxaphene and Carbofuran. You might not have these elements in your water, but you should know what you're paying for!

LG 5231JA2006A Water Filter Review

I replaced my older filter when this arrived from Amazon and it works, but the current version is an improvement over this one.The problem with this filter is the price they are demanding for a discontinued product.I paid way too much for this filter as it is inferior to the current item that is available on the market.Unfortunately, the vendor doesn't make it clear exactly which filter one is purchasing, since the current product's item number appears in parentheses here on Amazon (and, as I recall, on the vendor's website).I recommend finding the current filter and paying the few extra dollars as it is superior to this one.
