(More customer reviews)My first vacuum was the Eureka Altima. It looks pretty much just like this one same price ect. I bought that vacuum in November 2006. It did a great job for 3 straight years. It went from our apartment to now our town house. However it started to act funny...it would shut off unexpectedly, or not turn off. Something electrical and probably could have been fixed. But I convinced my husband it was time to retire our old vacuum. I have a 2.5 year old a 4 month old and a chow-chow. Being Christmas time and having the old vacuum acting weird I couldn't spend a lot of money.
When I found this vacuum I decided to order it. I am so glad I did. Once again I got a great vacuum for a great price. It picks up everything...It's no Dyson but for the price who can argue? It cost 1/5 of the cheapest dyson.
There are a few flaws: 1) the HEPA filter has to be cleaned often..I don't mind it because it gets the dust and stuff out. Also this is because I have a dog and the hair gets around it and it loses suction. 2) it does not have a bare floor setting...but once again it's okwith me. I tend to sweep my kitchen then use the hose to suck up the dirt. Our bedrooms are hardwood and I do the same as in kitchen.
If you have previously owned a Eureka I would encourage you to get this one.

(More customer reviews)I have a Eureka TrueClean(which appears to not be sold anymore) and love it, the first time I used it, just after my Dirt Devil(have had terrible experience with those) broke - The canister was packed halfway full with dirt from just my living room.Disgusting! but says A LOT about the quality of Eurekas in that they pick up EVERYTHING.So when my grandfather's old vacuum broke this week I told him, get a Eureka and don't bother with anything else.Same experience for him.I vacuumed just his living room and the canister was halfway FULL of dirt.over the whole house I more than filled the canister (though I emptied it after each area)

Anyways- he actually got the 8810AVZ model called "In-Reach" which I can't find anywhere online but, it seems to be the same as this one 8811AVZ just with different packaging.It works great-picks up everything.pretty quiet.easy to put together.however, I agree that the canister is not the easiest to empty.I actually prefer the open top canister to just turn over and dump out.this one flips open on the bottom and it took me a couple minutes to get it to pop open the first time. I am not sure how durable this function will be.also this vacuum causes a static shock (I was wearing pants and it was a mild shock, when my leg hit the vacuum - many times while I was vacuuming for my grandfather-not a big deal to me but others may be more sensitive.)

Definitely get a Eureka if you are looking for a vacuum in this price range. but I would prefer the open top canister to the flip-bottom canister.

(More customer reviews)This vac was impressive out of the box. the suction was amazing... for a week. You quickly will discover that his vac takes an enormous amount of TLC. If you have a woman in the house with longish hair, or pets, it will clog up immediately.You have to use your fingers or a tool to pull out the debris EVERY time you vacuum. The filter pad has direct contact with debris, so it need to be replaced or washed every few vacuums.WE VACUUM EVERY DAY.. not carpet.. hard wood floors.. and this vac lasted a month before it completely died, despite all our extra care of unclogging, etc.
I'm not sure what it is supposed to vacuum up. It can't handle hair.. it chokes on anything bigger than a cheerio.
Miserable, awful product.Went into the garbage today.
I suspect it has probably already been discontinued.
PLEASE don't waste your money.

(More customer reviews)This little vacuum is lite in weight, has decent suction from the base and the canister is easy to empty with a push of a button. However, those are the only good features about this vacuum. The hose has very little suction. It wouldn't even pick up small fake Christmas tree needles, which are VERY light weight. The canister design on the vacuum is horrible. The piece at the bottom of the filter fits almost to the sides of the canister and doesn't let anything through so it clogs easily and constantly. Which defeats the purpose of an easy push of a button dispenser. I am always having to empty the canister out by hand and then having to take the canister off of the vacuum to dig out what is stuck in the path to the canister since it is constantly backing up. On our main level which is about 1200 sq feet and half of it being hard floors. When vacuuming, I empty the canister by hand and dig the fuzz and dirt about 4-6 times each time I vacuum. (Usually 3 times a week) Needless to say, I spend as much time cleaning it out than I do vacuuming. I will be going back to the store to buy a Hoover!

(More customer reviews)Got this on sale at Target for $10 (Black Friday) and it's a decent little machine. Great for vacuuming my area rug and hardwood floors. I wouldn't expect this machine to clean up a large mess. Very lightweight, easy to maneuver and much quieter than a full size vac. Nice that it also transforms into a hand vac. In one use it picked up a lot of dust and cat hair that wasn't evident. Definitely a keeper!

Eureka 6833D Surfacemax Canister Vacuum Review

(More customer reviews)This turned out to be a pretty good little vacuum. Very lightweight, but then I've been using an ancient Rainbow and a bagless Dirt Devil, so just about ANY vacuum would feel lighter.

The 6833D has nice pickup power and the power beater bar is very effective. This model differs from the SurfaceMax in blue (don't see a numerical model identification) by having a different style handle grip, a 13 inch cleaning path and an automatic cord rewinder.

The on/off control for the beater bar is conveniently located on the handle grip, making it easy to go from smooth floor, without the power on, to your carpet or area rug - with the power then switched on. The adjustable suction control works great for vacuuming light weight scatter rugs.

What isn't so great is the lack of a swivel connection on the hose at either the handle or the canister. Makes maneuvering a bit clumsy, but not a huge problem because the unit is so lightweight.

This model came with a Turbo Nozzle/Power Paw, which only worked so-so for removing cat hair from upholstery, a dedicated Bare Floor Brush if you don't need the beater bar, an Upholstery Nozzle and an on board Crevice Tool and Dusting Brush fitted inside the canister. The upholstery nozzle was worthless as the first time I used it, then attempted to clean it using the bare vacuum wand, half of the glued-on "bristles" peeled off like false eyelashes and instantly disappeared into the depths of the canister! Oh well... I can use my old attachments left over from a prehistoric Kenmore.

I read a lot of reviews on many different vacuums before I decided on this one. I didn't want to spend a great deal of money, so I had to weigh which features were important to me. Lightweight, HEPA bag and filtering, which this model DOESN'T have - it has something called an Allergen FILTER, but no HEPA bag - my mistake. Unlike what was reported on another website, this vacuum has no problem picking up stray kitty litter and I don't see any marking on my floors from the hard plastic wheels. After wrestling with cords on both my old vacuums, the rewinder sure is nice to have.

True, the reports of fragile plastic parts and canister body are of concern, but that is what you exchange for "lightweight." Also, one may well suspect the hose will need replacing at some time in its lifetime. It is unlikely that I will be using this vacuum for 25 years as I have my old Rainbow, but ease of assembly and use rank high in my book. So, if you are looking for a manageable, uncomplicated everyday type vacuum, this will probably do the job.
