This results in reduce urinary tract infection for the pets and keeps the pet hydrated. The Pet waterer is also designed with an anti-splash system to prevent water from splashing on the floor or carpet. Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 Gallons Review

Tetra 29181 Finding Nemo Aquarium Cube, 1.5 Gallons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Nemo for my son and the Ariel for my daughter. They both wanted a pet so we figured a fish would be the best for now. We saw these on the disney site (if you catch them at the right time of the month you can get it for half off the retail and cheaper shipping).

Great little design, no leaks, filter is cute and relatively functional, however the air pump is not very stable and is prone to falling over and making a loud vibrating noise. It seems to want to follow the hose, so make sure you position the hose well.

The tank includes almost everything you need, EXCEPT gravel. So, when your kids open it up looking for it, you will need to come up with a good excuse (or, after reading this review, buy it and have it ready). Food, water conditioner, decoration, lights, etc., are all included. Make sure to rinse everything very well. Be careful not to use any soap as the residue may kill anything you put into the tank. A good thorough rinse should do the trick. Then, try to fill the tank and let it run for a couple of days before adding a fish (we put one Beta in each tank and they are both doing very well). The acrylic is very clear, and the cover is VERY good for keeping toys, hands, etc., out of the tank. I did not give it five stars because of the pump and the lack of gravel. Even still, I would have given 4.5 stars if it were available, as the gravel is not such a big deal (don't forget to rinse it VERY, VERY well before adding it into the tank).

Cat It Fresh and Clear Drinking Fountain for Cats and Puppies - Cat It 50050 Review

Cat It Fresh and Clear Drinking Fountain for Cats and Puppies - Cat It 50050
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Catit Dome Waterer thinking that, with multiple cats, it would be easier than refilling a small water dish a couple of times a day.The notion of fresh, filtered water also appealed to me. I was so wrong.

The fountain is supposed to work like this:a dome-shaped reservoir holds fresh water. It releases the water into the base as necessary, whereupon an electric pump will pump said water over the top of the dome for your cats to lick. You'll know when the water level is low because the pump begins to gurgle and sputter (and if you let it gurgle too long the pump burns out). The water is kept fresh by a replacable charcoal filter in the base.

Here is why I strongly suggest that you not waste your money like I did:

First, I'm not convinced the cats love it.I say this because mine still prefer the toilet (if the lid is up) even when this fountain running.

Second, the charcoal filter is supposed to be replaced every 2 weeks ($3 each). There's nothing economical about that.

Furthermore, even though there is a charcoal filter, the base still gets slimy. So you have to unplug it and wipe down the surface of the base (every nook and cranny) weekly if you want your cat to have fresh water.

Also, despite the filter, fur still gets into the base.It collects on the pump intake and prevents it from pumping water, so the unit effectively stops working. However, when the unit is running properly it's silent, and when it clogs w/fur it's also silent, so unless you're looking carefully, you may not realize that it's not pumping water.Dehydrated cats = not good. It's an easy fix (unplug it, remove the dome, and wipe the fur off the side of the pump), but it's another not-so-pleasant "feature" of the fountain.

And finally, the reason this product drives me positively bonkers: it works more in theory than in practice.

My reservoir will only drain into the base if the base is bone-dry.If there's any water in it, the reservoir won't drain (and yes, it's assembled properly). However, the pump gurgles when the base is 1/2 full.So when my pump gurgles, and the reservoir is virtually full, I pour a glass of water over the dome and it runs into the base and solves the problem. The issue is that 1) it gurgles *loudly*, and 2)I have to do this FOUR TIMES A DAY.Last night it woke me up, and I stumbled into the kitchen at 3am to pour a glass of water over the stupid thing to get it to stop making noise so I could go back to sleep.Lovely - interrupted sleep from a *cat fountain.*

I feel like I'm at war with a noisy plastic piece of garbage in my kitchen - and I'm clearly losing.

Yes - all fountains get slimy despite the charcoal filter, and all fountains make noise when the water runs low.But I've never had one that won't drain properly, that gurgles so frequently, and that gurgles so loudly that it's audible across the house.

This is not an inexpensive unit. There are better products out there on which you can spend your money.Choose an alternative -- don't choose this one!

Ergo Auto Pet Waterer, Large Review

Ergo Auto Pet Waterer, Large

The ERGO automatic filtered pet waterer is the best waterer I have ever purchased. The previous waterer was a Drinkwell Big Dog Waterer. It did not have the capacity the ERGO waterer has which is a big benefit considering I have two labrador retrievers. The ERGO waterer has a prefilter which keeps debris out of the pump.I have owned this waterer for almost a year and am still very satisfied with it.It is very easy to keep clean, much easier than the previous waterer. The pump is adjustable and has lasted longer than the one in the Drinkwell waterer. The only thing is the manual does not tell you to put water in the well were the filter is located.By doing this, the pump is primed much faster, ensuring the water circulates well.A small item compared to all the benefits of this waterer.

Drinkwell 360 Pet Fountain, Stainless Steel Review

Drinkwell 360 Pet Fountain, Stainless Steel

I have been shopping for a new watering set up for my new Maine Coon cat who adores water!I came across this the day it was released. It was similar to the plastic model but it looked like it had a stainless steel insert.I had a bit of an issue with the price but I ordered it anyway.I got it the very next day and was I surprised! The dish is 100% stainless steel! The quality is top notch!I use the ring (the few plastic parts it has) with a 3 spout. My Mokie LOVES it!If he had opposable thumbs he would give it a 2 thumbs up rating, so I guess it is a 2 dew claw rating for now from him and a 2 thumbs up from dad.It runs quiet, noisier if you want it to and adjust the volume of the water high.It is attractive, functional and I am proud to have it out in full view when people come over since it doesn't look like a cheap cat fountain.I love this and am VERY glad I went ahead and spent the extra on the stainless model for both aesthetic reasons and for the health reasons for Mokie since stainless resists bacterial growth better than plastic.

2 PAWS UP, way up!

Whisper 40i In-tank Filter - 20 to 40 Gallon Review

Whisper 40i In-tank Filter - 20 to 40 Gallon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own 7 pet turtles.I have two red-eared sliders, four mud turtles and one map turtle.I use the Whisper 40i filters in all my turtle tanks. After trying several different types of filters (ie Zoo Med 501 and Reptofilter) for my turtle tanks, I have found that these work the best and are the easiest to use.

First of all, they do keep the water clean as long as you changethe filter media regularly. How often it needs to be changed depends on the type of animal, or in my case turtle, that you own.It also depends on the amount of water in your habitat and other factors. The replacement media is fast to change and more inexpensive than the replacements for other turtle filters I've used.

The filter can be either hung on the side of the tank or completely suction cupped to the side. For functionality, I have found that tanks with shallow water do better with the filter sitting on the bottom of the tank and attached to the wall. Also, pets that are more likely to knock the filter down should have it attached to the wall instead of hung. When it falls in the water, the tank can become very dirty within a matter of hours. My sliders kept knocking one in the water and now the motor does not seem to work as well as it once did.

Make sure that your tank will have at least 4 inches of water in it or this filter will not work for you.

Overall, a solid product!

Hagen Catit Freash & Clear Drinking Fountain Item #50050 Review

Hagen Catit Freash & Clear Drinking Fountain Item #50050
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Latest Revision: October 2007
I have had this Catit fountain for about a week. Like a previous user mentioned, the unit itself is a bit "high-maintenance" -- at least until you've used it awhile. While I don't find refilling the unit difficult, doing a weekly cleaning (recommended) takes about 5-7 minutes -- an eternity compared to rinsing out a water bowl. And periodically (every 4-6 weeks), it is suggested you do a detailed cleaning. This entails disassembling the unit, including the little water pump, and giving it a thorough, soaping-water cleaning. I suspect this is about a 10-20 minute process from start to finish. That said, my cat loves the fountain, so the time investment is worth it. And no more water everywhere!

I like the the idea of flowing water to keep the water oxygenated. I also like that the fountain, and dome in particular, allows my cat a great option for playing with his water without splashing it all over the floor and wall. (My cat is a big time splasher.)

I'm not concerned about the water being exposed to airborne contaminants (as another reviewer mentioned). In addition to the water being circulated, it is also filtered by an included, replaceable charcoal filter. The filters come in three-paks at about US$[...] per package. I suspect I'll go through about 8 filters in a year. (You can use the unit without the filter, but performance declines and it seems to make more noise.)

Bottom line: I think this is a better, more natural, and more interesting "water source" for my cat than anything else I have seen on the market. And if I sense my cat is happy, I don't mind a little extra work keeping his water source fun, clean, and brimming.

NOTE: Given the maintenance required, I do not think this is a good product for those with mobility problems, arthritis, low dexterity, or minimal patience.

ADDENDUM (20060507) I have now had the fountain for over a year. I find that you can go without cleaning for about two weeks; that is: just refill the water and plug in again. And after awhile, you develop your own system for cleaning it.

For example, I have disassembled and cleaned the pump now about 5 times. After the second time, you understand how everything goes together and it's really easy.

CLEANING TIPS (pump): (1) Q-tip-type swabs. These are great for getting grime out of the hard to reach places. (2) Use an unaltered paperclip to lift up the "propeller" of the pump (It's held in by a magnet.) One other thing: be careful when unscrewing the "crown" of the dome. It has plastic threads (like threads in a screw) that could be damaged easily if you apply too much torque when turning. So just be very slow and gradual-- NEVER use force. It will last years and years I suspect.

Changing the filter: I change the filter every six weeks or so. You can determine what frequency is best by looking at it. I suggest you find an online reseller who has a good price and reasonable shipping. Then, stock up: get three of four boxes (9-12 filters). This should last you for a couple years.

ADDENDUM (20060802) I have now had this fountain for well over a year. Not a single part has failed or broken.

CLEANING/MAINTENANCE TIPS (general)

- my filter usage is 5 per year (one cat)

- Q-tips are very helpful when cleaning the pump -- whether you take it apart or just clean the exterior and the water exit.

- a soapy sponge is best for cleaning the dome and water tray since it can get into some of the tighter angles.

- a small bottle brush is helpful for cleaning the area where the crown of teh dome is. (Remove the crown, dip the bottle brush in warm, sudsy water, and clean.)

- I refill the water dome (container) every 4 days for my 15 pound cat.

- when properly maintained, the pump is whisper quiet

As I said previously, this is a clever device that requires more cleaning than a regular water bowl. However, my cat loves it, and now that I have become a pro at using it, I don't give the periodic cleaning (and the thrice yearly pump cleaning) a second thought.

ADDENDUM (20070304) A reviewer noted that it is difficult to get information on replacement parts (e.g., pump). I wrote the company (Hagen) and they replied as follows:

Dear Steve,

I apologize for the delay in the email response. We were experiencing technical difficulties that caused the delays, which can still unfortunately occur in 2006.

The replacement pumps are available to the retailers, but it is their decision whether or not to stock them. We do not make it difficult for the stores to obtain replacement parts for our products. Many retailers are willing to
special order parts if they do not stock them in their stores. When selling replacement parts direct, we charge suggested retail as we do not want to compete with our retailers. While you may be able to purchase a new fountain
for only a few dollars more than the pump, that store may be able to get the pump for you at a lesser cost. Suggested retail cost of the complete fountain is $[...].

Also, these pumps often stop working simply because they are in need of a thorough cleaning. The manual does include instructions on how to disassemble the pump to remove the impeller for and clean it out. Most often, this is all the pump needs to get going again. There is also a one year warranty on the pump, so if it fails within a year of purchase, the customer can return it to us for warranty repair or replacement.

Thank you,
Sharon Emond, Customer Service Dept.

Petmate Ultra Bubbler Watering System, Medium, Peacock Blue Review

Petmate Ultra Bubbler Watering System, Medium, Peacock Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I first bought another brand of these called the Drinkwell. With the optional resevoir and cleaning kit and with shipping it cost me $70. The Drinkwell has a relatively loud pump noise that comes from under the bowl part which spooked the cats the first few days (ands drives me nuts so I have to unplug it at night even though it's three rooms away from my bedroom). but once they got over the noise, the cats loved it so much that I would have liked a second (I have multiple food/water stations) but the price made that impossible.

The other day I was at my local grocery store and they had this Bubbler for $14.99. I couldn't believe it and snatched one up.

Let me say, this one is not only considerably cheaper, but holds more water than the Drinkwell, is easier to clean than the Drinkwell and is quieter than the Drinkwell. I so regret spending that much money on the Drinkwell now.

The Bubbler air pump is not in the bowl, it connects to it by a hose so the little bit of noise from it is far enough away as to not spook the cats. The noise it does makes reminds me of those water fountains people put in their homes now, it's just the sound of air bubbles in water. There's only two pieces, the bowl and tank, and both go in my dishwasher.

The Drinkwell, has multiple parts, plus you have to clean the pump itself, and buying the cleaning kit is a must to get into the corners and angles that are all over the various pieces. Plus the Drinkwell uses filters which have to be changed. No filters in the Bubbler.

I take in strays and have 14 cats at the moment. I so wish I have found the Bubbler first so that I could have bought one for each feeding station I have rather than have spent so much on one Drinkwell.

Cat It Fresh and Clear Small Drinking Fountain - Cat It 50053 Review

Cat It Fresh and Clear Small Drinking Fountain - Cat It 50053
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For two years, I used the large Hagen Catit "bubble-dome" water system (that they still make and sell). The pump gave out on it, and when I went to order a new one, I saw this new, smaller version and gave it a try.

My cat was already used to drinking from a dome fountain, so he immediately adjusted to this new model. Although this version holds less water than the old version (64oz vs. 100oz), the water seems to evaporate more slowly, and thus it lasts almost as long between refills (although I live in Arizona, where things evaporate very quickly). The actual pump is exactly the same as the one found in the old model, and it is very quiet (although you can hear a slight "hum").

My only complaint is with the filter. Inside of this device is a circular filter that is supposed to fit snugly against the inside walls. The water comes up from the bottom of the feeder, out the top of the dome, then drips down the sides of the dome and back inside through some holes around the outside edges. The problem is that the filter doesn't quite reach the edges of the feeder, and when the water drips back inside, much of it flows through the small space between the filter and the inside wall of the feeder. I wish the filter was made slightly larger in order to minimize this gap and to make sure that all of the water flows through the filter.

*****************

Update: After a brief power outage, I realized one important thing: Unlike many of the other water fountains for pets, if the power goes out, there is NO WATER available for the pet to drink from this model. If you leave for a day or two, or are in an area that may get power outages, be sure to leave out a separate dish of water.

I had been looking for the perfect fountain that wouldn't stand out too much in my room.I've had plastic fountains in the past that would have film grow on them pretty quickly between cleanings so I was unsure that I'd buy one at all.I have three cats and actually bought this one for one of them in particular who loves to knock his water bowl to make waves - and spilled it often. He is very happy with this product. But a pleasant surprise is that one of my other cats is ten years old with a chronic respiratory infection that in his later years has led to high sodium and other bad readings in his blood work.A month prior to getting this fountain he'd been in ICU for a week and after being released I had to administer SubQ fluids nightly. He drank prior to my getting the fountain but once it got here he drank so much more - even sleeps by it sometimes. He's by no means cured but I no longer need to give him the SubQ nightly which is a huge relief. All three cats share the fountain well.Asthetically, it is actually semi decorative and is very quiet.I've cleaned it regularly and the filter is great at stopping the minimal fur that falls in. I have already recommending it to friends and definitely suggest it to anyone looking to purchase it. Hope this helps.

Ergo Auto Pet Waterer Filter Review

Ergo Auto Pet Waterer Filter
Average Reviews:

I use these filters on the large water fountain for my cat Wyatt. Without the filter, the water will become dirtier faster (mostly because of pieces of food he puts in there from the large automatic feeder).

FYI, these filters are shipped 2-per pack, something that isn't mentioned in the product description.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Ergo Auto Pet Waterer Filter

Product Description:
A unique 8-layer filter used in the Auto Pet waterer to ensure that the pet gets fully distilled and clear water to drink every time it drinks. The water from the bowl passes to the filter to remove all impurities like pet saliva, fur and other pollution found in the water. The water that passes out of the filter is crystal clear and free from impurities and odors. The filter has 8-layers the first layer consists of a mesh filter to trap solids. The second layer has small ceramic balls which effectively filter out heavy metals from the water. This is the primary layer, which enables the water to be more bioactive and hence precipitate the dissolved solids while passing through the activated carbon layer. The third layer also consists of a mesh filter to trap small solids. The fourth layer has activated carbon filter elements with silver ions to enable reduction of chlorine and remove any odors. This layer also enables precipitation of dissolved solids. The fifth layer has another mesh filter that traps smaller solids. The sixth layer has stone filter element to trap all precipitated solids and solids from entering the filter from the inlet. The water is clean when it exits from this element. The seventh layer has a mesh filter to trap the smallest solids and the eighth layer is a secondary layer of large ceramic balls to enable the water to be more bioactive after the activated carbon layer and stone filter have done their functions. The water passing through this layer makes the water bioactive and with the air pumped along with the water increases the oxygen content and hence makes the water taste better and healthier. This reduces the formation of algae and keeps the water fresh. These balls also contain the same elements as in layer 2.

Pioneer Pet 6022 Ceramic Drinking Fountain, Raindrop Design Review

Pioneer Pet 6022 Ceramic Drinking Fountain, Raindrop Design
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the first time I've bought a fountain for my cat, and I've done quite a bit of research on them. Though there isnt much information about this fountain online compared to the drinkwell and petmate fountains, I went for this one after seeing what the insides of the other fountains looked like. I wanted to write this review in amazon so others can get a bit more information so they can make an informed choice.

The main advantages that this fountain has over others are:
1. It's CERAMIC. No scratches in the plastic leading to bacteria. No allergies to the plastic, which some cats get.
2. QUIET PUMP. The pump is absolutely silent. There are three settings on the pump and the first one gives no sounds whatsoever. I have it set on the second setting to get the sound of trickling water. The pump is still quet.
3. EASY TO CLEAN. This was the main reason I got this one. The Drinkwell and petmate fountains requires disassembly and cleaning with special brushes. This fountain is only THREE PARTS. The top part where the water flows down, the main bowl, and the pump. Since it's ceramic, I basically set it at the hottest water setting to scrub it down and sanitize. No special brushes, no bleeding knuckles.
4. NO LEAKS. Just because of the way this fountain is designed (top ceramic dish sits on top of the main bowl), there is no way it can possibly leak. Unless you crack the ceramic dishes, of course!
5. It's pretty.

The only thing I wonder about the other fountains is whether or not my cat would like the waterfall-type fountains. My cat seems to like to drink out of the part where the water comes out of the pump more than out of the bowl. Nevertheless, he gets fresh water and seems to enjoy it.

So far, I'm satisfied with the fountain, and my cat seems to like it, too. As for the pump, I'll have to see how long it lasts.

Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Fountain Review

Petmate Deluxe Fresh Flow Pet Fountain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 4 cats love this fountain and they drink a lot more water now. Depending upon how you have the flow lever adjusted, the water stream can either be silent or a gentle trickle noise.

I have had 3 of these fountains in 3 years. The only problem I have had is with the pump. Like any water pump, the water level must be above the pump so the pump will not be damaged. I burnt out the first pump this way (shame on me). The second pump became severely clogged and stopped when one cat vomited grass into the dish while I was away (naughty kitty). The third pump dying is a mystery to me. It wasn't even a year old. Unfortunately, I just returned it today before reading one reviewer's directions on taking the pump apart for cleaning.

Even with the pump issue, I'll buy this product again. The cats love it, it is easy to clean, and fresh water is good for my cats' health. By the way, I can't imagine how some people are getting algae, etc., with this system. Basic cleaning is required of any food or water dish. The only part of this unit that cannot be cleaned with a sponge is a narrow plastic funnel that brings the water up to the fountain head. A Q-Tip works great for cleaning that.

Drinkwell Big-Dog Pet Fountain Review

I have been using the fountain for a few weeks now.
It holds 2.5 gallons of water, I use bottled water to fill it because that's what we drink, so I'm not worried about the filter replacement. In fact.. I don't think the filter is all that useful or purposeful. (A regular charcoal filter that the water flows around) honestly.. I don't think I'll every buy a replacement.. using bottled water as I said I feel it's not really necessary!

Once a week I clean it out.. I did not buy the cleaning kit, again doesn't seem necessary.I use the hose sprayer on my small kitchen sink to turn it upside down in and spray every crack & crevice with our hottest tap water setting for a few minutes.Works great, no scrubbing necessary.

The flow rate adjustment is great too.. fast flow or slow.. .the slow setting makes the least water trickling sound, we don't even hear it, and the fast is like any soothing home water fountain.

2.5 gallons lasts our pack of 2 medium 1 large dogs, and 2 housecats about 1 week.. I may add a little to the bowl before the week is over now that its summer but not much.I let it run down a bit low and then clean it.

I would recommend buying it, and may buy another for our covered outside area as well.

Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain Review

Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My aging cat, like many others, needs to be encouraged to drink as much as possible. I read lots of reviews for cat fountains, and decided on this one (there are basically two other options that I know about.)

I have a pergo floor that isn't impervious to water, so I varnished a thin 2'x2' piece of plywood to set the fountain on, to catch any random splashes.

Maisie wasn't sure about the thing at first, though maybe the smell of the varnish was putting her off. After a few days she has taken to it fine. I don't know if she LOVEs it, as other owners have claimed, but she does use it, which is all I could reasonably expect.

Good:
- It is quiet. The motor is virtually inaudible. I don't know why some other people complain about the humming or buzzing noise. I don't hear a thing, and mine is sitting on a hard floor (on top of a sheet of 1/16" plywood.) It can make a trickling watery sound at the high setting, but apparently some people like the sound, and anyway turning down the flow almost eliminates it.

- It holds a fair amount of water. I don't have to worry about it going dry every few days as I did with the old water bowl. So Maisie always has water to drink.

- Doesn't splash water everywhere. In fact it doesn't splash at all. The water has a landing ramp that lets it down easy.

- Stable, not easy to tip over.

Not so good:
- It does need to be refilled every few days, not because it will run out of water, but because the impeller pump sits a fair distance above the bottom of the drinking bowl, so there has to be a fair amount of water in the bowl so the impeller (like a little paddle wheel) isn't spinning in air. The pump will complain then, making a sucking, thrumming sound. If the water level falls too low, the pump will run dry and possibly burn out, even if there is still water in the bowl.

-It isn't that easy to clean. I clean mine every week or so, which seems to be often enough. It doesn't take me 30 minutes as it does another reviewer, more like 10. I don't have the problem with cat hair (I brush Maisie twice a day) but I do get a bit of brown or pink slime (just as I did with an ordinary water bowl.) That is anaerobic bacteria, just like you get on the lower edge of your shower curtain, and it isn't dangerous to your cat. But it is icky.

The fountain was designed with absolutely no thought to making it easy to clean. There are several nooks and crannies that are hard to reach and would have been easy to eliminate. For example, in the water reservoir there is a deep, round cavity about 1/2" in diameter and about 4" deep, closed at the bottom. It serves no purpose other than to align the reservoir assembly with the base, and it is continuously filled with water. To clean it well requires something like a test tube brush (long thin round brush with bristles on the end.)

So instead of cleaning it with a brush, I am experimenting with simply rinsing it with white vinegar, which should kill most of the bacteria, and unlike dishwasher detergent or spray cleaners, it leaves no residue and especially, no odor (once it is rinsed away.)

Or I may just use the dishwasher. The fountain is top-shelf safe, but a different plastic would have made it anywhere-safe. Also, it would be hard to position it so that it won't collect dishwasher water (with little bits of coffe grounds, etc.) somewhere inside.

For those reasons, I give it four stars. The water filter is nice by the way, but it is quite thin and I don't know that it does very much. Nor do I know if it is really necessary. It is supposed to remove tastes and odors, but there wouldn't be much in tap water, and Maisie certainly doesn't mind when she drinks from the faucet. Also, it filters water that has already passed through the pump. It would have made more sense to put a screen or filter in the water flow in front of the pump where it can keep hair out of the impeller.

Pet Drinking Fountain - Raindrop Design Review

Pet Drinking Fountain - Raindrop Design
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had ordered the ceramic fountain, but got the stainless instead as the ceramic one was back ordered. While not as pretty, it is more practical, as it will not break if knocked around. The parts go together easily, and the cats took to it quickly. Some drink the flowing water, and somedrink in the "quiet " part of the bowl.It is not as much of a fountain as some of the other styles (the water runs down a trough into bowl) but the cats don't seem to want to play in it quite as much. One star taken off because while it hold 50 some odd ounces, if it gets down a third the pump will not move water, so it needs to be refilled more frequently than I had expected. It is easy to clean, and that is a big bonus. The filter needs to be replaced once a month (at least at my house, where the well water has a lot of sediment) and that might get pricy. All and all I am pleased. I do not use it for my dogs though, as I would need to refill constantly.A good choice for people who want to encourage their cats to drink more (Kidney disease, urinary tract problems)

Pet fountains help your animals to drink more water because they are attracted to moving water. In the past the only option you had for an automatic pet fountain was a plastic one. Now finally there is a stainless steel pet drinking fountain that looks like it belongs in your kitchen. Our stainless steel drinking fountain is extremely easy to take a part and clean. There has never been a pet fountain that looks or works as well as this one does.
