(More customer reviews)I first bought another brand of these called the Drinkwell. With the optional resevoir and cleaning kit and with shipping it cost me $70. The Drinkwell has a relatively loud pump noise that comes from under the bowl part which spooked the cats the first few days (ands drives me nuts so I have to unplug it at night even though it's three rooms away from my bedroom). but once they got over the noise, the cats loved it so much that I would have liked a second (I have multiple food/water stations) but the price made that impossible.

The other day I was at my local grocery store and they had this Bubbler for $14.99. I couldn't believe it and snatched one up.

Let me say, this one is not only considerably cheaper, but holds more water than the Drinkwell, is easier to clean than the Drinkwell and is quieter than the Drinkwell. I so regret spending that much money on the Drinkwell now.

The Bubbler air pump is not in the bowl, it connects to it by a hose so the little bit of noise from it is far enough away as to not spook the cats. The noise it does makes reminds me of those water fountains people put in their homes now, it's just the sound of air bubbles in water. There's only two pieces, the bowl and tank, and both go in my dishwasher.

The Drinkwell, has multiple parts, plus you have to clean the pump itself, and buying the cleaning kit is a must to get into the corners and angles that are all over the various pieces. Plus the Drinkwell uses filters which have to be changed. No filters in the Bubbler.

I take in strays and have 14 cats at the moment. I so wish I have found the Bubbler first so that I could have bought one for each feeding station I have rather than have spent so much on one Drinkwell.

(More customer reviews)Replacement filters for Fresh Flow Purifying Pet Fountains can be hard to find, so I recommend buying several here at Amazon.com. They use charcoal filters to keep the water fresh. Replace filter every 60 to 90 days for usage by one animal (sometimes I cheat and clean them off for an extra month). They are required to keep all the dust and small bugs that get into the water bowl.

(More customer reviews)I cannot believe I'm writing a review of the filters for my Pet Fountain...but here goes.The Pet Fountain itself is fabulous...and these filters do work and catch all the guck in the air, hair, dust, etc. to keep it working well and the water clean.My cats (and dog) love the fresh, moving water.The filters themselves?We live in the country, so there are dirt paths to the house and a lot of dust comes in and our pets are indoor/outdoor animals. The filter needs changing every month, so for a year's worth you will need 6 packages of 2 filters, but they are not expensive and do keep the Fountain working optimally.

I began looking to buy a new one, and checked the PetMate website which said "PLEASE READ THE PUMP MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS BY CLICKING HERE.PLEASE FOLLOW THE PUMP CLEANING STEPS BEFORE CONTINUING." I followed the instructions and found that my impeller magnet was coated with minerals. I followed the instructions and it is now working perfectly! (More customer reviews)We got these to use with the petmate drinking fountain we previously bought. We have a relatively high level of chlorination in our water and my fiancee is convinced that the cats don't like it (even though they happily drink from any toilet in the house).
The issue we ran into is that after around a week the carbon starts to clump together. This massively reduces the flow through the filter and causes the water to back up behind it. This then causes the fountain to become very noisy.
I don't know if this is a recurring problem with all users but the lifespan on these things is supposed to be a month so we're not doing so well. I have another 5 to use so we'll get through them then probably switch to using filtered water. (or toilet water if my fiancee isn't looking)

(More customer reviews)To my mind, there is little more annoying than when a company trots out an "upgrade" product that turns out to be much worse than the original.

These filters render the fountains UNUSABLE in my area (yes, 'tis likely different areas are prone to different microorganisms which may be handled more or less effectively by different products).I get algae sliming up the works within one or two days.God knows what kind of bacteria are thriving in commensal or symbiotic relationships with this algal slime...

I am back to running my faucets day-and-night because my cats will not drink out of bowls.They USED to love drinking out of the Pet Fountain, but will not use it for more than a day or two after it has been fully disassembled and cleaned with bleach.

A few quality control tests would have easily allowed the manufacturer to realize what we have all realized... this product is completely ineffective and a wretched down-grade from the previously-supported filter.

Whoever was involved in developing this product has brought ignominious disgrace upon a formerly beloved company...
