AquaQuik 4511 3/4-Horsepower Pool Sand Filter Review

AquaQuik 4511 3/4-Horsepower Pool Sand Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this product form amazon, did not find reviews anywhere so was somewhat skeptical. I am using this on a 10 ft round 3 ft deep intex pool for about a week now and the pool is crystal clear. I plug it in for a short time each day. The skimmer is great, the sand is good for at least 7 years, thats 7 years of not buying filters, the fittings are perfect for intex pools and 1 1/4 and 1 1/2" hose connections, all included or built in. My nly complaint is that the intake from the pump should have a gasket of some sort, but I am going to silicone the hose on since I have no intentions or reason to ever take it off. That is sooo minor, but it really is my only complaint so I thought I'd share. Oh and this thing is super quiet, and the 1/2 hp is more than enough to get the job done! This thing really puts out quiet a force, and the suction is unbelievable. I will NEVER EVER buy or ues an intex pump, EVER. They are junk and not fit to filter my fish tank. This will last for years and when we up grade to a bigger pool will be able to do the job too!July 5th, 2010 UPDATE

Okay guys & gals, still have the filter. Still working great. A few things to note, the hose from the pump to the filter will not last, it will eventually crack and if pluggeg in and unattended, will pump your pool empty. I've tried several pool stores to find a replacement part but nobody has anything close. There is a great solution however, took the pool pump to Lowes and went to the PVC section and matched up fittings and pipes. Then I went to the pool pump section and bought a rubber connector. I piped the pump to the filter and problem solved. I'll put pictures up sometime.

Secondly, people have mentioned the leak that comes from the top of the filter. Last year I called game (number on the filter) and the sent me a new top for free no questions asked. This year the new one began leaking worse than the old one. I took the old one out and inspected it, I found that some of the screws on the underside were not tight. I tightened them up and put it on and guess what? No more leaking. I went ahead and dissassembled the newer on with the bad leak (just remove all the screws on the underside) and I found that there is a little rubber gasket that was torn. Thats basically it. They have a piece of plastic that seperates the spring from the gasket, when the plastic cracks the rubber gasket basically gets eaten and you start leaking water. Solution, throw plastic away (recycle) and put a metal washer in its place with a new rubber gasket. Should be able to get both at the hardware store for less than $3.00.

I stand by this being worth the money. Some people may not be happy because they expected to get a great deal on a sand filter and never have to do maintenance ever again. Welcome to pool ownership. Any filter on any pool will eventually need something. After having gotten two seasons of crystal clear swimming out of this, I can deal with replacing things like hoses and gaskets just fine. I hope this helps someone. I will put up pics when I get around to it.

Hayward S166TPAKS Pro Series Top-Mount Sand Filter 16-Inch with Top-Mount Valve and Base Review

Hayward S166TPAKS Pro Series Top-Mount Sand Filter 16 inch with Top-Mount Valve and Base
Average Reviews:

I ordered the above Hayward S166TPAKS filter system.Although the web site shows pump included and Hayward site identifies S155TPAKS as having 1 HP Matrix pump, no pump was supplied. Box was mislabeled by Amazon and contained filter only.Cost of $279 would be very good price for filter/pump assembly but Amazon sells the filter separately for about $160, so no one wouldpay $279 for just filter. They provided return label so could be returned at no cost to me.

Intex Hose Conversion Adapters Kit Review

Intex Hose Conversion Adapters Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I don't know why anyone would order these adapters from any place other than Intex directly - the manufacturer. They sell them for about $2.50ea and you can get two, delivered anywhere for about $10.

Second, while they do attach nicely, they do cause the rest of the hose and attachments to stick out and pull down on the protruding 1 1/4" black nozzle as another poster indicated.

Finally, there is a design flaw in that the black gasket, on the end of the adapter that attaches to the plunger valve, is mated to a rim rim that is hollow. You can see this by just pulling the gasket back on that edge.Once assembled everything will work fine for a while. But after a few minutes, the gasket gets sucked into the hollow rim and causes air to enter the system resulting in a "buzzing" around the adapter and significantly reduced water flow - probably not good for the pump either. The rim really should be a solid flat surface for the gasket to mate to.This is probably caused by the a pump that is designed for 1 1/2" openings moving water through the a 1 1/4" adapter.

I considered fixing this by filling the hollow edge with liquid resin available from a craft store.I ultimately just cut out the 1 1/4" inflow and outflow black tube and installed the strainer/nozzle assemblies that came with the pump, ditching the adapters altogether.Everything works fine and I have an 1 1/2" path through the whole system. An added benefit is that the assemblies now don't pull down on the pool liner as they are closer and have much more surface area in contact with the liner.

Product Description:
These hose conversion adapters is the minimum required parts when you upgrades your existing Intex pool filter pump system 1000gph or smaller to any of the more powerful 1500gph, 2500gph or larger pool filter pump. If your pool is 16' in diameter of smaller, you would need this set(2 converters) to adapte to the larger 1.5" ID hose with threaded connection to your 1.25" ID hose connection. Please verified the compatibility of these hose adapters to your pool set, if you do not have an Intex pool set. ***** Not recommended for Intex 4000gph pool filter pump(this is was never designed for pool set w/ less than 52" height sidewall), due to the much higher flow-rate. ****

Intex Deluxe Saltwater System Review

Intex Deluxe Saltwater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I normally don't write product reviews but I wanted to help what I suspect was an unfair one by a prior reviewer.
We've been using this system for 3 years with a 6000 gallon pool and it has changed the way we look at pool care. The procedure is simple-- add the recommended amount of salt, program the unit, and it takes care of the rest.
No more algae, no more adding chemicals, no more burning eyes and dry skin. The pool water is like physiological saline and opening your eyes under water is like bathing them in Visene. Very pleasant. Everybody who uses our salt water pool loves it, particulary people with chlorine sensitivity and dry, sensitive skin as it is therapeutic for the latter.
When adding this much salt (160 pounds in our case), don't be discouraged by the unit giving a low salt warning at first. It takes up to 24 hours for the salt to fully dissolve and register. I personally appreciate the unit having the capability to tell you whether your salt level is too low or too high (in addition to otehr warnings like insufficinet flow from the main filter system).
For the price especially, I find this unit highly sophisticated. Try it, you'll like it.

Product Description:
This applied energy current changes the salt dissolved in the water into liquid chlorine - hypochlorite. The liquid chlorine immediately mixes with the water leaving the chlorinator cell and flows into the swimming pool as clean, chlorinated water. The continuous introduction of liquid chlorine will ensure the continuous sanitization of the pool's water and will not allow the growth of algae. When the liquid chlorine has destroyed the bacteria in the pool, it reverts to salt. This means that the salt is continually regenerated in the process and the only loss of salt is due to backwashing, splash-out and overflow. It may be necessary to add salt to the pool water to bring the concentration back to the desired level of 3,000 parts per million. This form of chlorination will not damage your pool. Chlorine "tablets" or "powder" can damage the pool liner while saline conversion will not. Also, the mildly salted water will not affect the PVC plumbing, filters or pump. Saline chlorination is easier and safer. You will not need to buy or store any dangerous chemicals as you would for a pool.

Intex 2000 gph Water Filtration Pool Pump with Built-in Chlorine Generator Review

Intex 2000 gph Water Filtration Pool Pump with Built-in Chlorine Generator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I admittedly was a little hesitant to order the saltwater generator/filter pump because I was worried that it would be difficult to figure out. Also, there were absolutely no ratings anywhere on this product which didn't help matters.I have been using it for 3 days so my review is only based on the little time I've had it so I don't know how the long term will be but so far so good. You can run the pump only if needed but once you set the generator for however many hours you need it to run (don't worry the table of how long depending on pool size is in the booklet) the pump will also turn on and shut off automatically and start again in 24 hours. It wasn't that difficult to set up and once on it seems to be doing a good job of keeping the chlorine levels perfect.Remember you still will need to buy other chemicals for ph balance and akalinity balance.

The system comes with hoses and fittings for the intake and outlet for both large and small pools. They wouldn't work on my pool (Little Tikes zip tight) but the others (Aqua Leisure etc) should be no problem.

After the system runs through a cycle it has a display that shows what action you may have to take by using numbers (91-low salt, 92-high salt and 93-system completed/no problems).

So far it seems to be doing what it supposed to but if something comes up and I have trouble I'll be sure to update my review.

Salt Water Above Ground Chlorine Pump Review

Salt Water Above Ground Chlorine Pump

If any of you out there have one of those Intex, above-ground, metal framed pools...then this is a must have!!I have had my pool now for 3 years. Each year I have gone the chlorine route and had to buy expensive chemicals, add them all the time, check the water all the time, etc.But this year I purchased one of these, hooked it to my existing pump; followed the directions....And you just set it and forget it!!It sounded too good to be true...but it is true!! All you have to do is to push a button every once in a while to run the Boost cycle (after hard rains and about once a week-same as what you would call a Shock treatment with chemicals) and change the filter when in need. The new 2010 model even will give you a code if your salt level gets too low...or too high...or even if your water flow is low. You cannot taste the salt..no burning eyes, bathing suits dont change their colors..and the water is just as clear....I LOVE IT...and would highly recommend it.I can actually enjoy my pool!!It will pay for itself in the first season!!

***** Brand New 2010 Model, w/ 2nd stage Copper Ionizations to Control Algae Growth, for Intex Brand Pool & Intex Filter Pump System ***** This Chlorinator/Chlorine Generator/Saltwater system is designed for Intrex pool set 15' or larger with a properly matched/sized intex filter pump. It might also be compatible with other above ground pool system, however, we do not guaranteed the compatibility of the products. No more red, burning eyes, faded clothes, and pool liners! Simply hook the Intex saltwater generator into the pool's water flow as directed, add the specified amount of salt, and the Chlorine Generator will do the rest. The pool's water is converted to an effective algaecide - and since salt doesn't evaporate or dissipate as chlorine does, the constant addition of chemicals is a thing of the past. Keep your pool incredibly clean, crystal clear and fresh at all times.

The difference between this filter and the "other" filter would be the paper of this filter is a little flimsy. When you rinse off this filter, it takes a little longer to clean because the paper bends a little. But on the other hand, I do not see any difference on the performance side, which is what I am really looking for.I would recommend this product.

Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System Review

Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have used our Intex Krystal Clear Saltwater System for 2 years now (during summer months only) and it's awesome. Only once per summer we have had to put in the table-salt (once the pool is full of it's first fresh water of the season), that's always at the beginning, when getting the pool ready for summer. Before we bought this system and when we first got our pool, we didn't know a thing about chemicals. In the beginning, we had to go out and buy chlorine, alkaline booster, PH balance increaser and PH balance decrease, plus test strips. Not only are these chemicals dangerous and expensive, but they are such a hassle to clean the pool every 3-5 days and constantly test the water levels to make sure water is safe to swim in. Now, with this salt-water system, you can scratch all those chemicals (it is very important, not to use any of those chemicals with the salt water system, because it will mess up the PH levels and you'll need to start all over with fresh water). The system does the testing and cleaning for you. Depending on the size of your above ground pool, you only need a few 25 pound bags of "Morton Brand" table-salt (can buy at any Costco for $5 a bag), and then you run your system for about 24-48 hours (when first setting up the pool) to get the salt to turn into chlorine. It may take days for the salt cloudiness to clear up. Your system does the testing and if there is not enough chlorine, or too much, in the pool, then an alarm will go off. The system when on, will test the water and chlorine levels for you. You no longer have to test or clean the pool. This sytem will do if for you (along with your filter system). Also, you'll still need a skimmer to clean the leaves and dirt off bottom of pool.

The system comes with a manual, so any time an alarm goes off, you'll get instructions on how to fix it. Let me tell you though, we rarely have any kind of problems with this system and it's the best summer money I have ever spent. You'll only need table-salt, a filter and saltwater system to make the chlorine. Within the summer months our pool is up, we never needed to add more salt. We have an above ground Intex pool and at first we had to call customer service to find out exactly how much salt we needed. They gave us acurate information. We have a 15x15 foot pool and only need to use about 4 or 5 bags of 25 lbs. salt (I forget exactly, since my husband does all the setting up).

Don't expect crystal clear water, unless your filter pump is running all day long (not your salt water system, since that only needs to run 3-5 hours). For the really clear water, your filter has to be running very often. We only run our filter during the time our salt water system is running and maybe overnight, for extra time, but we dont run the filter all day. Our water is only super duper clear when we are always running our filter. Often, we may run the filter over night, while we are asleep.

You'll have to run the salt-water system for about 3-5 hours in the early morning or late at night, when no-one is swimming. This is when your system will be making the salt into chlorine. If your pool doesn't have enough clorine, an alarm will go off and you'll just need to add a little more salt. Our size of pool only requires 3 or 4 hours and there is an automatic timer to set. Depending on where you live, will determine how long you need to run the system. If you live in really hot weather, you may need to run the system longer. We live in a cooler climate so don't need to usually run the system more then 3 hours (4 hours on really hot days). Because you cannot run this sytem while people are in the pool, you may split the time and do 1 or 2 hours in the morning and the rest at night (or just run it all night, while sleeping, with your filter). We won't be using this item this summer, because we have a toddler, that loves to climb, so no pool this summer. I'm sure we will get this system and pool out in the next few years and even if the motor eventually goes out, we'll for sure buy another one.

The best thing about this system, is no more messy chemicals and your skin, hair and eyes will thank your for that too.

Clean and clear. No more stinging eyes or fried hair. Dump all the chemicals for good.

Remember, if you have any troubles with the system, just call up Intex, you can see their 1-800 number on the salt water system site. I probably called them 2 or 3 times in the beginning. We finally got it down. Again, don't expect crystal clear water, unless you are running a cleaning filter all day long (not the salt water system, but a filter).

Here's a good money saving tip, that Intex probably doesn't want you to know...but we have figured out, that the filters can be hosed down, instead of replaced. This way, you are not always buying filter replacements. Just take out the filter, every other day, hose it down good and it works great.

We have purchased two of these pumps and we lucky if they worked for a month or two being used at the most 2 to 3 hours a day. Last summer we stored our brand new pump carefully knowing how sensitive these pumps are. We set up our pool this spring and plugged in our carefully-stored pump- nothing. There is no reason why this should not work other than shoddy workmanship. Don't waste your money.

Intex 2,100-Gallon Sand Filter Pump Review

Intex 2,100-Gallon Sand Filter Pump
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this pump about a week ago to replace the 1500gph pump that came with my intex easy set 18'x48" round pool. This was very convenient due to the fact that it was made by intex and was very simple to hook up to the existing setup. I have been really impressed so far with the design and function of intex components, particularly relating to the hose connections. Nothing beats the threaded hose connections and the convenient shut-off valves in the pool walls.

This pump comes with the pump motor and sand filter. The only thing I had to supply was two 50lb bags of silica filter sand. The connections and assembly were typical intex easy for a do it yourselfer no tools needed, which seems to be a theme with intex products. The motor is quite powerful and the sand filter is second to none. It is also quite convenient because you don't have to replace a paper filter every two weeks. Water has been crystal clear. Once I bought the sand I had this thing up and running in about 25 minutes. It works with all of the existing connections on the 18' diameter and larger pools. If you have a smaller pool you have to use some adapters that come with the pump kit. A new set of hoses is included as well with the very convenient threaded connections.

Overall I love this pump so far!

CON: My only small gripe is the O-ring seal in the leaf catcher lid. You really have to tighten it just right to get a good seal (if not it will drip all day). If it's too loose it leaks, if it's too tight it leaks. You really have to mess with it so it won't leak. This did not become apparent until the first time I had to remove the lid to pull out the strainer for cleaning. Going to have to deduct a star for that. Minor inconvenience, but the pump is still a lot of bang for the buck and I don't regret my purchase one bit.
