Fisher & Paykel : E522BRXU Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (Right Hinge) Review

Fisher & Paykel : E522BRXU Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my house, and found that the previous owners had done their own kitchen remodel which left a really strange size cutout for the fridge. It took me weeks to find this one which (as far as I can tell) is the only counter depth and narrow refrigerator.Anyway, it is a good fridge. No complaints. The fridge is cool looking, but the only reason that I can think someone would buy this one is for size.If you aren't restricted by size, I would look at a wider fridge.

Good things to know... There is an inline water filter (works good, easy to change), ice maker doesn't take up too much room, the fridge is counter depth (they don't advertise it as such but you can tell by the dimensions and the back is flat). The inside is small but the fridge doesn't look freakishly small.Oh, the ice maker is temperamental; it doesn't bother me but if you love ice this could be a problem.

Almost no one carries these; if you need to "see" it I found a Samsungat the big box retailers that is about the same size.If more than two people live in your house, or you like to buy big soda bottles, etc., maybe take a peek at something with similar dimensions before you buy.

Product Description:
With a Fisher & Paykel appliance you gain the benefit of 70 years of appliance innovation. Established in 1934 with an enterprising spirit, Fisher & Paykel has developed an innovative culture that challenges conventional appliance design. Rethinking how to store and preserve food, Fisher & Paykel was on a mission when it created Active Smart, an advanced refrigeration system. Active Smart uses unique electronic intelligence to continuously monitor and adapt its cooling conditions, adjusting the flow of cold air based on daily use and climate conditions. So it's not working overtime or under par, just smarter and more efficiently. Even the produce bins provide maximum care. Humidity controls keep lettuce green, herbs garden-fresh and fruit crisp for up to two weeks. What about the homemade gazpacho in the refrigerator, or the just churned ice cream in the freezer? Independent sensors accurately monitor temperatures in both compartments to maintain the safest most precise temperature. Active Smart technology has been given a new addition, an integrated water dispenser providing you with chilled filtered water and an internal ice maker for clean, crisp ice cubes on demand. With no impact on space in the freezer or refrigerator door, this is the perfect addition to the Active Smart family.

Amana : AFI2538AEB 24.9 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator - Black Review

Amana : AFI2538AEB 24.9 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Our Amana Side-by-Side stopped cooling late in the afternoon the day before Thanksgiving. We bought ice and stuffed the fridge, then rushed to shop before the stores closed. This is not the way I like to shop.I like to do research first. But because we must keep Insulin chilled but not frozen we didn't have the luxury of research time and Internet shopping.

I knew I wanted this style because I love bottom freezers, it is easy to see items in the back, and it is energy efficient.

None of the stores we were able to get to before closing time carried this model.I found that most brands had freezer drawers that were extremely difficult to open. Some I couldn't open at all.

I was worried about buying American because I knew Whirlpool had bought the companies and we once had a Whirlpool that was nothing but trouble. Our son bought a bottom-freezer Amana after the company had been purchased by Whirlpool. He said he was pleased with it, had had no problems, and was told when he bought it that Amana still makes the machine; Whirlpool only makes the visible exterior.

I have recommended Amana to family and friends so the only question was could I open the drawer?Yes!The floor model was tight; the one on my new fridge is easier to open even when fully loaded. The freezer has 2 upper drawers for easy access to the foods you use most frequently. They slide.

The big surprise was inside the refrigerator section. The left side has 6 special holders for soda or beer cans. This saves a lot of shelf space. The right door has a special place for 2 gallons of milk.Shelves are adjustable. There are 2 crisper drawers and a deli drawer. To use the deli drawer you have to open both doors. The lights are bright. The water filter is up front so it's easy to replace. It's large so it should last quite a while. The fridge will tell you when the filter needs to be replaced. There's an alarm to warn you the doors aren't closed. It went off as we were loading the fridge. It's loud enough to hear across the room but it doesn't blast you out of the house.

This model provides ice and water through the door. You can select water only, cubes only, or both together. The temperature control is also on the outside. There is a child lock to prevent children and large dogs from playing with the water dispenser.(Yes, dogs sometimes press their noses to it.We have a friend who has a curious Great Dane.)

This refrigerator is quiet!Amana is not known for quiet refrigerators, only good ones.Insulation is great. It hardly runs but maintains temperature perfectly.

What you will miss are an egg container and a large ice container.I miss the crushed ice my previous Amana had.And I believe a side-by-side freezer holds more than this drawer. Both my Amanas are 25 cubic feet total but I don't know the freezer measurements.

The exterior does not show fingerprints!

My husband bought this for me for a birthday present. I liked the idea -- press and pour. What I hate is it is difficult to measure how much water you are putting in because you are putting water into a dark black holder/tank. There are no level markers inside the tank. I'm basically guessing how much water I am putting in. So, sometimes I get really strong coffee or weak coffee. Also, the coffee level window doesn't show you how much water you've put in unless you have direct light on the window because the tank/holder is black and the coffee is black. I have to shine light on the window to see how much coffee is in there and as I use it, how much is left.

Another thing I don't like are the big parts. I rather rinse out a carafe then this big black thing. Then you are suppose to use the big black thing to pour into these two small holes behind the holder/tank. Water inevitably gets all over. So I end up using a carafe or a measuring cup w/spout to pour into the holes. My coffee filter holder doesn't fit very well over that tank, so steam/water escapes because the top lid doesn't come down all the way.

I don't know if I have an earlier version of the "BrewStation". I just don't get the great reviews. It is big, clunky and takes up a lot of room. I am purchasing a different one even though mine is rather new. I'm going to give mine away.

Holmes HM4600-U 11-Gallon Humidifier Review

Holmes HM4600-U 11-Gallon Humidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've had this humidifier since the middle of November. It is now the middle of April. We bought it after my daughter was born and had to spend 10 days in the special care nusery. Part of the time she spent in there was because of her tiny nasal passages. What helped get her though was the doctor putting her on a cool mist humidifier dome. The doctor said if we didn't already have one, to ge a COOL MIST humidifer. Cool mist will help open up the nasal passage where as the warm mist will generally help initially feel better, in the long run will close the nasal passages.

We have a very large room and needed a humidifier that would cover our area (the baby is in our room). This humidifer certainly fits that bill.

As for the loud noise it produces. We like having that noise. It is a steady sound at the same level. In fact the other night I had the humidifier turned off and woke up 4 or 5 times during the night because I was able to hear every little tiny sound that would normally have been drowned out by the humidifier.

As for filling it. You can do it in the sink or in the tub. The top for each tank has an attachment for it that screws into it so that you can lay the tank sideways in the sink. Our sink is deep enought that I was able to take the attachment off and fill it normally.

Having the humidifier room gage is great. Typically you want your humity level in a room to be between 40 and 60. During the night I run the humidifier on level 1 and it keeps the humity level around 50-55. During the day I change the setting to keep the humidity level no lower than 40. Every time the level goes below 40, the fan automatically turns on to keep up the humitity level.

The only real complaint I have with this unit is that it goes through filters quickly and they are on the expensive side. I have to change the filters once a month (there are 6 of them), but it has made a huge difference in the baby's breathing at night during the winter months. I have also noticed that I no longer wake up with a dry yukky mouth and my lips do not get dryed out and chapped at all.

No more red, burning eyes, faded clothes, and pool liners!, the pool's water is converted to an effective algaecide - and since salt doesn't evaporate or dissipate as chlorine does, the constant addition of chemicals is a thing of the past. This refrigerator is well designed. We seem to be able to fit everthing, while still looking organized. The added space in the freezer is also great. The two design flaws for us are the lack of an egg holder in the fridge and the butter section is too high and deep to be of optimal usage. Our refrigerator has also had problems with the icemaker. It was initially overproducing the ice (so much so that when we opened the freezer, ice would fall out);then I think the excess ice broke the unit so that no ice was being made.LG provided service, and the technician replaced the ice maker three weeks ago.Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem again.First too much ice, and now none.A technician is supposed to come in two days to try fixing it again!!!I hope it works, because it is becoming a nuisance. I don't know if it's a problem with all the SpacePlus refrigerators, or if we are experiencing bad luck.I would not recommend this fridge though, based on our experience.

Black & Decker DCM7 Cup-at-a-Time Personal 12-Ounce Coffeemaker, White Review

Black & Decker DCM7 Cup-at-a-Time Personal 12-Ounce Coffeemaker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these for my mother for Christmas. Years ago I had gotten her a Black&Decker cup-at-a-time coffeemaker and it finally gave up last year. The only cup-at-a-time coffeemaker at a reasonable price I could find locally was by Toastess. The Toastess paled in comparison to the Black&Decker, not only in build quality but in ease of use. My mother suffers from a neurological disorder which makes it difficult to coordinate the use of her hands; she is okay with general tasks, but nothing which requires fine manipulation. This Black&Decker coffeemaker, like the model before, is easy to use. The power switch is on the front and a little larger than several coffeemakers switches; you just have to push down on it. There is nothing to move out of the way when filling the reservoir; just lift the lid. The reservoir is also a little wider than the Toastess making it easier to fill. Of course, one of the safety features, which the Toastess model also lacks, is the automatic shut-off. When it is finished making a cup of coffee, and it is fast, it just shuts off, which is great for someone who keeps forgetting to turn off their coffeemaker. The only issue I can see that someone may have, and niggling at that, is that this unit cannot hold tall coffee mugs. All of my mother's coffee mugs fit, which is a lesser concern for me, however, than its ease of use and safety, at which this Black&Decker excels.--Bob

This is a good value for the price. It's fast, convenient
and makes great coffee/espresso.We particularly like the
built in milk steamer. We also like having the ability to
make coffee and espresso at the same time with one machine.
The only criticism is that it has no automatic shut-off.
We bought an appliance timer to cover that deficiency.
That was the only point that kept us from rating it 5 stars.

Mr. Coffee JHX33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with eLume Touch-Screen Technology Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Mr. Coffee coffeemakers for years, and although they have generally been reliable and customer service has been helpful when needed, I found myself with a new kitchen arrangement and needed a coffeemaker that allows one to put the coffee grounds and the water in from the side, rather than lifting a lid from front to back, as almost all coffeemakers do.This maker has a lid on the left for the coffee and another one on the right for the water.I find it to be a perfect arrangement. There is also a control to change the quality of the coffee from regular to stronger and the like, but for the most part it just makes the same good coffee Mr. Coffee always produces. At the same time, although one can grow weary of the fact that Mr. Coffee seems to invent a new carafe for every maker, this new one, with a plastic top, seems to eliminate the problems of dripping that I've had so often with Mr. Coffee products in the past:it pours cleanly every time. The touchscreen business is nice looking and fancy, but that is secondary to me.If anything, I worry most about the touchscreen holding up over time. But the maker looks good, it brews fine coffee, it has side openings for the coffee grounds and water, and the carafe seems finally to have solved the problems with dripping that also seemed to accompany earlier products. It's a bit more expensive than most Mr. Coffee products, but it's well worth it.

Product Description:
With its sleek, stylish design, this 12-cup coffeemaker not only looks great on the counter, but it also provides an array of convenient features. Enjoy easy reading and programming thanks to its unique, digital eLume touch-screen control panel, which offers "brew now", "delay brew", "brew strength", "clean", and other options for simple operation and maintenance. Even more, the control panel goes dark for a hidden effect when not in use, adding to its sophisticated appearance. To brew, simply add ground coffee to the removable filter insert, which lifts out of the brew basket for easy filling and cleaning; pour a measured amount of water into the water tank, replace the carafe, and make a selection. The included 12-cup carafe provides measuring marks up the side, a generous stay-cool handle, and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. Removing the carafe from the machine midbrew pauses the flow of coffee and allows for pouring a quick cup, and after a two-hour keep-warm mode, the unit shuts off automatically for safety and peace of mind. Housed in durable, black plastic with gleaming chrome accents, the coffeemaker measures 7-1/5 by 11-1/2 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

LG Electronics DH404E Dehumidifier Review

LG Electronics DH404E Dehumidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this when I was living in New Jersey. It is my first dehumidifier and I may have been expecting too much.

It removes plenty of moisture and works great. When the bucket is full it shuts itself off. You have the option of connecting it to a hose and let it run indefinitely with no water collection. Don't set it on max, because a room that is TOO dry is also uncomfortable. You can set it as low as 40% humidity, and can increase this in increments of 10% to Max.

Main problem is that it runs very hot. It will heat the room in which it is placed. On a hot humid day the last thing you want is a hotter dry day. This is not one of those units you would want to put in your bedroom.

It is not really quiet. I don't know if it is quieter than other dehumidifiers, but it produces the same amount of sound as a room air-conditioner.

Pasquini Livia 90 Semi Automatic Espresso Machine Review

Pasquini Livia 90 Semi Automatic Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just one quick note: The photo above (at the time I wrote this review) is of the automatic model and not the semi-automatic model. This review is for the semi-auto model. For those who don't know, the auto model allows you to push a button and the machine will start and stop the flow of water on its own (single or double).Semi-auto means you need to turn the flow of water on and off yourself. There are also super-auto machines that grind and tamp the beans as well.

The Review: This is a serious coffee machine. It's "commercial quality" so it's heavy (almost 50lbs) and very well built. It takes up some counter space (mostly depth) but it looks elegant and is easy to keep clean. The portafilter (handle with basket for coffee) is very sturdy and fits snugly. It has a useful ready gauge and simple buttons (as noted above) for on-off and start-stop.

Now the important stuff: It makes great coffee consistently.I moved up to this machine from a Braun pump espresso machine. This one has better pressure and temperature.I used to brag about my Braun machine because it was inexpensive and made consistently good esperesso. The first shots I pulled from this machine made me realize that I didn't realize what I was missing. If you know how to make espresso, this machine lets you pull easy, consistent, and quality shots.

Another great feature of this machine is the continuous steam and hot (very hot!) water outlet. If you've ever had trouble steaming milk on machine you'll be impressed and maybe even surprised at how well this works. The machine also recovers well and quickly after you pull shots or use the steam wand.

The tanks is removable and holds a lot of water. It's easy to fill in place as well. You can leave this machine on all day if you like (it's designed to work that way) and you might want to if you're like me and drink too much coffee. The reason is that it can take a little while to warm up if it's been off for a while. That's probably the only thing I'm not fond of with this machine.First thing in the morning it can take a while to warm up (5-10 mins). This makes sense given the size and build of the machine. It simply takes time to warm up to the proper brewing temperature. However, I had gotten used to a machine that only takes a couple of minutes. So, my new morning routine includes going down to turn on the machine and coming down after my shower for my great coffee!

If you've never had a pump machine before, you may need some practice, but I think this is a good machine to learn on (due to its consistency).Just remember to follow the instructions (especially not to overfill the filter) and adjust either the grind of your coffee or the pressure of your tamping to get the desired results.

I hope this is helpful to you if you're considering this machine.I'd say it does well or better to other machines in this price range. It's a definite step up in quality and build from the machine's you'll find in the $500-1000 price range. It's a complete improvement in machine and coffee from pretty much any machine under $500.

One last comment, Pasquini has been excellent and very responsive to questions.I'm very pleased to see them here on Amazon.

Good luck with your quest for great coffee...I found it with this machine!

The pool won't connect to anything without it, so you need it. that said, I buy new plungers each year. they crack and are hard to lift up by the end of the summer. But heh, they are cheap and pools come with maintenance responsibilities. buy yourself a spare set so that if yours cracks, or becomes too difficult to lift up, you can simply change it out. You'll be glad you did. Search online for best price. Some vendors overcharge. You are in a rock and a hard place. You have to have these. So, they do work, and are just part of maintenance.

DeLonghi EC140B Espresso and Cappuccino Maker Review

DeLonghi EC140B Espresso and Cappuccino Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned the maker for a while. It's far better than many of the Krups and other models typically for sale at department stores. If you want an espresso, you'll need a pump machine. Many cheap machines will say "steam driven" or otherwise have "steam" in the title:what this means is that they lack a pump and merely use steam pressure to get now overly superheated water to flow through the fine espresso grinds.(By the way, "espresso" is, for all intents and purposes, a grind, not a roast. It is a very fine powdery grind, just shy of Turkish grind.)This results in charred burnt espresso, with little or no crema.

This DeLonghi, by contrast, does a fine little job of pumping. In addition, it uses a small stainless steel boiler -- not a superheated "thermoblock" [which means the water is run over a heating coil, not heated within a boiler].

That said, the only way to get an espresso, meaning a coffee drink in which properly heated water is compressed through a powdery grind of freshly roasted beans, and thus producing a chemical reaction which releases a frothy caramel colored liquid (called "crema"), is by using a very good grinder to produce a very fine, even grind. This machine, when coupled with a Gaggia MDF or Rancilio Rocky, or at the most economical, an Innova Lux or Solis Maestro Plus, and beans roasted within two weeks prior, can produce good espresso.

As to cappuccino, the machine does a fine job for the price in steaming milk.In order to do this, though, you must "temperature surf" the thermostat. What this means is that you steam while the boiler is heating. It's simple:start steaming your milk and you'll find that the steam power will run out in about 15 seconds. At that time the light for the boiler will come on, indicating the boiler is engaged.Instead of closing the steam valve and waiting for the light to go off, just close the steam valve for a few seconds, and then open it again, as you continue steaming the milk with the light still on (and hence the boiler still heating). This will give adequate steaming power.

I don't believe you can really get a better espresso or cappuccino maker for under $150.If you want to go for a huge step up, consider buying a Gaggia Carreza. It's worth the extra money.

This refrigerator replaced one of those double door refrigerators that had 5 freezer shelves which were too narrow to accomodate frozen pizzas or a 22 lb turkey. I hated the old fridge. It looked nice, but was pretty useless and impractical.
My new Kitchenaid refrigerator/freezer is great. Food items are clearly visible and there is plenty of storage space on both doors that allow for varied heigths depending on your needs. Electronic controls allows for consistent temp. Vegetable and fruit storage is accomodated with large bins and coldcuts and cheeses have their own storage drawers. There is an alarm that alerts you if the doors are not properly closed and a constant readout indicating temperature. A water dispenser is mounted on an exterior door which I don't use much.
The lower mounted freezer has two deep baskets that hold pretty much everything with an adjustable slide for more efficient storage.
The stainless steel exterior glistens and offers a lot of flexibility re: home decor. The exterior does require a weekly cleaning with stainless cleaner.
I like the quality, performance, and appearance and bought as second similar unit without the water dispenser.

Reddy Heater 60,000 BTU Kerosene Forced-Air Heater #R60A Review

Reddy Heater 60,000 BTU Kerosene Forced-Air Heater #R60A

Unit works right out of the box.Just add fuel and plug it in.I doesn't get simpler than this. With the optional thermostat you just set it and forget it.It'll outlast you on most jobs with a full tank of fuel.Safe and economical performance.(just don't point the end at anything that'll burn).A safe distance is around 4 or more feet in front where heat comes out.I don't know what the maker recommends but that distance works quite well for me.Now I wouldn't leave the building with one of these running for any period of time.Outside there's no problem heating in the general direction where you're working. This thing throws quite a bit of heat for it's size.It is noisy and you won't be able to talk on the phone when using it in the same room, but for utility heat nothing compares.I've seen places that used those hanging heaters replace them with one of these things.

Product Description:
The Reddy Heater R60A kerosene heater packs some punch--at 60,000 Btu, it can heat up to 1,400 square feet. Its three-gallon tank makes hoses and fuel cylinders unnecessary, and the included fuel gauge lets you know when it's time to refill. The unit accepts a variety of fuels, including kerosene, #1/#2 diesel/fuel oil, JET A or JP-8 fuels. For extra efficiency, you can order the optional thermostat (HA1210). The R60A is portable, and comes with a handle, but you may want to order the heavy duty wheels and handle kit (HA1202) for extra mobility. CSA certified. One-year warranty.--Josh Dettweiler

Choosing a space heater is a matter of sifting through a bewildering array of types, power ratings, and fuel sources. Let's break it down a little to make the process easier. What are the different types of space heaters?

Radiant heaters emit infrared radiation that directly warms the objects in front of the heaters (rather than the surrounding air). If you only need heat by a desk or in a small section of a room, a radiant heater is quiet and will use very little power.
Forced-air heaters use a fan to blow air that has been warmed by metal or ceramic heating elements. A forced-air heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but can be noisy.
Convection heaters draw cold air from the floor; the air is warmed by heating coils and emitted from the top of the heater. A convection heater is appropriate for quickly heating up a small- to medium-sized room, but also can be noisy.
Radiators work by heating oil enclosed in a reservoir, gradually heating the surrounding air. If heating speed isn't an issue, you might want to opt for a radiator. These are extremely quiet and effective--perfect for bedrooms.
Should I buy an electric or a combustion model?
If you want a heater that will be available in emergencies, or that can heat areas larger than a single room, choose a "combustion" model--one that is powered by a gas or fuel like propane, kerosene, natural gas, or diesel. Which fuel type you choose depends largely on convenience and local availability. For example, diesel would be appropriate for a heater you take with you on long car trips. How powerful a heater do I need?
Heaters are rated by BTU, which stands for British Thermal Unit (the amount of heat needed to heat one pound of water by 1 degree F). To find out how many BTU you need:

Calculate the volume of the space to be heated by multiplying square footage by height.
Multiply that number by 4 if your insulation is poor, 3 if it's average, or 2 if it's good.
The resulting number is a ballpark figure for how many BTU you'll need.
Do space heaters cost a lot to operate?
As a general rule, electric space heaters are more expensive to use than combustion models. To ensure energy efficiency, a thermostat is a must-have feature for any heater. For radiant heaters, models with a 360 degree heating surface can heat larger spaces. If you need a forced-air heater, models with ceramic elements tend to be more efficient. Are space heaters a fire hazard?
Space heaters are implicated in about 25,000 residential fires every year. To ensure proper safety, always follow the manufacturer's usage instructions and fill out the warranty card to receive informational updates from the manufacturer. Also, look for extra safety features such as an automatic shutoff switch that can shut down the unit if, for example, it gets upended. In addition, choose a model where the heating element is adequately enclosed within the unit.
