Black & Decker CMD3500MBT 8-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe Review

Black & Decker CMD3500MBT 8-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's difficult trying to research coffee makers to purchase, I realized, after looking at various ones throughout Amazon.A few products had agreement in the quality, but for a lot, the reviews seemed to be all over the place. And the ones that seemed to have really decent reviews were a bit out of the range I wanted to spend on an office coffee pot. Then I discovered this Black & Decker one that had absolutely no reviews, was in the price range I was looking for and had all the extra features (like a thermal carafe) and decided, why not? It's been a good purchase so far.

Reviewing appliances like coffeemakers is a bit outside of my normal purview and most of what I'd write about (the features) are listed above, so I'm going to make this short and sweet. The thermal carafe works wonderfully and we typically brew a pot, bring the carafe into our section and it keeps hot for the morning. The last cup feels as warm as the first, which is nice. It's only an 8 cup carafe, which could be problematic for those looking for a big pot, but it's the perfect fit for us.

One feature not listed is that it uses a charcoal filtration system. This is good and bad.The good is the filtration is a nice feature and it comes with one little charcoal patch, but after reading through the manual, it looks like the only way to order more is to go directly to Black & Decker.I noticed that Amazon has the Black & Decker TWF50 Water Filter Basket & Replacement Filter for sale via some other vendors. It's not the same model number, but the picture looks exactly like the one used in this coffeemaker (minus the color) and the replacement filters will probably fit.Unfortunately, it could become a hassle for those who want to keep up with their filter (which needs to be replaced every 60 brews/2 months).

Looking at the other features, there's a digital clock, with a screen that indicates the coffee is fresh and ready, a mechanism to choose your coffee strength that definitely works as advertised, the ability to "sneak a cup," and the carafe (unlike others we've used) pours perfectly without making a mess. All of this comes in a stylish package complete with blue lights along the side where the water level is read.

This makes for an attractive package that works perfectly and has a lot of additional features.I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

after months of dealing with burnt coffee from my trusty krups coffeemaker...i decided that there just HAD to be a better way.i launched an exhaustive search for what would be the best (you know this is always a compromise, anyways) machine for the job.i knew i wanted a thermal carafe...and wasn't as concerned with the price as i was concerned with the quality and durability.
i read many reviews here on amazon...including reviews for this machine.after seeing a bunch of negative reviews (based on how difficult to operate, clean, or lack of really HOT coffee from this machine) i decided to look further, instead of just jumping in.
of course...as i searched the web, i finally realized that i was just going to have to try the machine...worst that could happen was that i could experience all the problems that some others had...and i'd have to return it.
expecting problems (i saw an awful lot of buyer whining about operation difficulty (it isn't a problem) temperature of coffee (although quoted as 170 degrees in the manual it generally stays in the carafe at 160 degrees) and all assortment of complaints about adding water to the reservoir (a no brainer), assembly/cleaning issues (also very simple), pause and serve issues (never had a problem)...
i had NO problems whatsoever with this unit.coffee tasted good from the first cup...and still tastes good (i've had the unit for over two months now)
as a matter of fact...the coffee is still hot and drinkable after 3 hours (although the manual does recommend that you dispose of the coffee after 2 hours)
so all in all?a VERY satisfied customer...i rated it at 4 stars because it IS expensive...and for the anal-retentive types out there...yes the coffee rarely exceeds 165 degrees...
but...if you are sitting on the fence (like i was)jump in!you won't be disappointed!

Product Description:
To achieve a spectacular cup of coffee there are essential steps that need to be taken. The water must be free of chlorine taste (hence the charcoal filter), the machine must be able to brew larger or smaller amounts successfully (this one "knows" to disperse hot water more slowly when the coffee ground amount is less). The coffee must be very hot (right around 192 Degrees F, like the brew from the MT500), and kept fresh, as in a double walled stainless steel carafe with a one way valve that keeps flavor and aroma in the coffee. Now it doesn't hurt if the machine itself is gorgeous either, or that it can output 10 cups of coffee in 8 minutes. Oh and one more thing: this is the only coffee maker in its class that has a stainless steel boiler so your coffee doesn't ever come in contact with aluminum. Normally this type of construction, and a 1200 watt heating element are found only on commercial grade appliances.

BUNN BTX-B ThermoFresh 10-Cup Thermal-Carafe Home Coffee Brewer, Black Review

I bought this brewer in October. At first I was very happy with it. Then the carafe started leaking so bad it was ridiculous. I called Bunn a couple of days ago and the lady told me to wash the spout and the seal around the rim with Dawn dishwashing soap (she specifically said Dawn which I happened to have on hand) and the carafe would perform much better. She said that after a number of uses the oil from the coffee keeps the seal from sealing well. I hung up fully expecting to call her back in a few minutes. I washed the carafe as she suggested and it works like new again... no leaks!! If you have this pot, try it, you'll be amazed at the difference. Now I love this brewer again!

BUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black Review

BUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I will not bore you with all of the exact specifics of this coffee brewer. There are plenty of other reviews here on AmazonBUNN BX-B Classic 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black or check the Bunn website for additional info here:http://www.bunnomatic.com/retail/products/b.html

This Bunn BX-B 10-cup coffe brewer is a pricey but fantastic coffee maker for your home or small office.I bought one for my office, so that I can make myself a quick pot of coffee when I get to work or whenever someone stops by to visit my office during the day. This machine makes coffe FAST and the flavor of the coffee is always consistent.Although I have never found many of the Bunn coffee makers to be much of a fashion statement, this unit is fairly high-tech looking, with its black and stainless color combination.Since the water flows out of this unit so quickly, using a showerhead type spray pattern, I highly suggest that you always use genuine Bunn coffee filters as the store brand filters are usually not tall enough, causing the ground coffee to splash up and over the edge of the shorter filters.

One noteable difference between this and most previous pour-over Bunn models is that this unit does not require the use of a seperate water pitcher. You simply fill your coffee pot with water, lift the little door on the top/front of the unit and pour your water in.The most important step is to place the coffee pot on the warmer plate, being sure to center it properly, before lowering the door on the top of the coffee maker. As soon as you lower the door the water will start to flow quickly. If you lower the door before you place the pot underneath, you will likely end up with a bit of a mess. Also, I recommend that you insert your filter and pour in your measured amount of ground coffee before pouring water into the Bunn, because even with the door up I find that some water tends to drip from the output nozzle, causing water to drip down onto the warmer plate.I fill my pot with water, set it aside while installing my filter and ground coffee, then pour in my water, center the pot on the warmer plate and then lower the door. This has produced proper function every time, without any mess to clean up.

My likes and dislikes are as follows:

Pros:
*****
-Makes a pot of coffee in only 3 minutes or less!
-Consistent coffee flavor with every pot
-No need to use a seperate water pitcher as with previous Bunn models
-Simplistic operation that anyone can handle
-Easy to clean and maintain
-Pleasing black and stainless steel design
-Build quality seems to be much higher than many other coffee makers

Cons:
*****
-No automatic shutoff (could pose hazzard if warmer plate is left on over the weekend)
-No timer feature for brewing coffee at a set time
-No temperature control for the warmer plate (it gets VERY hot!)
-If you don't use it for several days some of the water evaporates from the hot water tank
-Must use genuine Bunn coffee filters, which are not always easy to find
-Pricey for a basic coffee maker

The cons are somewhat minor but the lack of an automatic shutoff really bothers me.I ended up purchasing a seperate digital appliance timer, which I plug the Bunn coffee maker into, so that I can set power on and off times. This way I don't have to worry about leaving the warmer plate turned on over night or over the weekend.Overall I am extremely happy with my Bunn BX-B coffee brewer. It is easy to use and makes a great tasting pot of coffee in just under 3 minutes. It is also a great device for producing plain hot water. If you exclude the filter and coffee this unit produces a pot of very hot water in less time than it takes to make the normal pot of coffee. This is great for making instant coffee, hot chocolate, tea, instant oatmeal, etc.The BX-B carries a pretty hefty price tag (as all Bunn models do), but it is built well and makes excellent coffee in a flash. If you believe that time is money (as I do), then the Bunn BX-B is worth every penny for all of the time you'll save.=o)

Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, I have owned thermal coffee makers before, so I am used to how they work. If you have any issues with the lid, read the manual and do not complain about it. These reviews about how the lid is not easy to work and that the coffee spills all over is purely based on people who are lazy, and/or do not follow directions. If you simply close the lid all the way before you brew, NOTHING will spill and all of the coffee will go into the carafe. Also, if you need extremely hot coffee when you drink it, then preheat the carafe with hot water before you brew the coffee. If not, your coffee will still be pretty hot, but not scalding like normal warming plate coffee makers. By the way, warming plate coffee makers always overcook the coffee and make it stale 99% of the time. I prefer a bit less hot coffee where the taste is still in tact. The coffee tastes wonderful in this coffee maker, and is just as good as most of the $100 to $199 coffee makers. This thing is very compact, and not as tall as other thermal coffee makers. The brew process is slower than other coffee makers, but this is how it should be. You want the full flavor of the coffee, not just a hint of it with boiling water added. Not all things need to be so expedient. Waiting for a nice cup of brewed coffee in this machine is worth it. But if you cannot wait and need it right away, set the timer and wake up to hot coffee waiting for your drinking enjoyment.

So in a nutshell, if you have never owned a thermal coffee maker, read the directions. If you have problems with the lid or the temperature not being 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, don't buy it. However, if you are not a lazy person, am able to wait 5 minutes instead of 2, and know how to line up arrows on a lid......this coffee maker is for you!

I love this coffee maker, and it does an excellent job. The coffee is very robust and flavorful. The machine is very quiet, and works exactly as it is supposed to. The temperature of the coffee is very hot, and is still quite hot after adding a refrigerated creamer to it. I have no qualms with this machine, and the price is perfect for what you get. Please take this review for what it is worth, for I am a very educated coffee consumer. I have owned numerous coffee machines, and this is right up there with the best of them. No, I do not work for Mr. Coffee is case you were wondering :-)

Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Cuisinart DCC-2000 Coffee-on-Demand 12-cup Programmable Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a perfectly good Cuisinart DCC-1200, but after spotting the 2000 at a local store I couldn't stop fiddling with the floor model. Well, my wife was lurking as I was fiddling and with my birthday coming up - and my affinity for coffee - she thought she'd found the perfect gift. Boy was she was right!

Now let's be honest, carafe-less designs have been around forever - Farberware's stainless steel coffee pots are staples in offices and at parties - they just haven't been this much fun. I'm not going to repeat everything that's already been written, but suffice to say the 2000 is a unique coffee maker. Does it make coffee better than my 1200 did? No, not really. But it does keep it hot longer, without the bitter, burnt taste that would often accompany the coffee from my 1200 when left on the warming plate for over 30 minutes. I normally have two cups every morning (not the puny 5-ounce "cups" that every coffee maker seems to think is the norm for whatever reason), but I've found myself having about three (maybe not a good thing?) since getting the 2000 because that third cup, about 1-1/2 hours later still tastes great. That wasn't happening with the 1200. Sometimes I'd try the third cup, but the burnt carafe taste made it unfortunate.

One of the complaints I'm reading here is that you need a separate container to fill the 2000. I can't be the only owner that owns a Pyrex 2-cup (or more) measuring cup can I? I just fill it up once, twice - gasp! - three times and pour it in while watching the water level on the side. Honestly, it's not that hard. Cleaning is no different from any model with a carafe. But instead of washing the outer carafe you remove the inner "carafe" to rinse it out or give it a thorough cleaning. That's the only difference. The coffee gauge is kind of silly and inaccurate and I rarely ever look at it, but it adds to the allure of the 2000.

I'll be keeping my 1200 at the ready for my sister to use when she comes over to make her dreadful flavored coffees so they don't contaminate my new toy. But until the next great design advance comes along to which I can't say "no," I'll be enjoying the 2000 to the fullest. It's neat, it's fun and it makes great coffee.

Krups FMF5 Coffee Maker Review

Krups FMF5 Coffee Maker
Average Reviews:

Krups FMF5-14 10-cup programmable coffee machine, black.
I just don't understand all the negative reviews about this Krups Coffee Maker. Was there a plastic smell while brewing? Yes, but only the first time running only water through the machine & not at all since. Were there air bubbles in the gauge that tells you how many cups you are brewing? Again yes the first time I used it with water only. All I had to do is remove the plastic indicator, blow through it and presto no more bubbles. It really isn't rocket science.

I am not a a light coffee drinker & I have about 3-4 mugs a day, my coffee is very important to me, so when I read all the negative reviews about this coffee maker I panicked. I went out and bought a Cussinart Thermal Coffee Maker instead, that was a mistake.

I used to belong to the Gevalia Coffee Club & when I joined I got a free 12 cup non-thermal coffee maker. It made/makes great coffee. It is the one I have been using for over 8 years. I had learned years ago that even though it had the Gevalia name on it, it was actually made by Krups. I should of ignored the bad reviews of the Krup FMF5 Thermal Coffee Maker & go with a brand I know works great.

I returned my Cussinart, got this coffee maker & couldn't be happier. This Krups makes great coffee, keeps it hot for hours & is hassle free. It also has some nice features like a water filter in the reservoir & an empty reservoir warning just to name a few. There is no plastic taste in the coffee.

So just follow the simple instructions & recommendations, sit back & enjoy a great cup of coffee. Come back in a few hours & you can do the same.

Cuisinart DTC-975 Programable Auto Brew 12-Cup Coffeemakers Review

Cuisinart DTC-975 Programable Auto Brew 12-Cup Coffeemakers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I use it to make 2 cups or full pots.I have used many different machines over 15 years of drinking coffee (and therefore making coffee) daily and have absolutely no complaints about this machine.I would like to address the complaints here for people shopping for a coffeemaker.

RE: The reported leakage problem. This is due to OVERFILLING.The water reservoir is larger than the carafe for a reason people: Steam builds up as water is heated, if the reservoir were the exact size of the carafe...YOU finish this sentence. If you can- a) figure out in your head what happens to heated plastic without room built in to displace heat and b) either fill the machine with the actual carafe being used or something you measured out beforehand that is equal to the volume of said carafe- than you're smart enough to own this excellent machine.

RE: The BEEP.Yes it beeps (3 times) and yes it's not a whisper, but it's not the trumpet people are making it out to be.These people must have it set up in their bedrooms two feet from their head.If the machine is in your kitchen and you are nearby it's not loud enough to wake you, it's just loud enough to hear if you're in the other room and can't WAIT to get that first cup of java. It's morning and it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready."It's evening and I'm chatting with friends and forget and then it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready."People who complain about the beep would complain about getting wet in the rain or cold in the winter.

RE: The screw cap.Yes it takes 3 revolutions to get this SCREW cap SCREWED on.And like any nut and bolt system you have to start screwing evenly in order to form a tight bond. This tight bond is what keeps your coffee hot.The carafe pours using a built-in ball-bearing that uses that wonderful thing we like to call gravity to move the ball ever so slightly away from the opening so that your HOT coffee can pour into your waiting favorite coffee cup.The stream is thin yes, again for a reason: large openings equal larger exposure to air, air that is most probably colder than you like your coffee.

I've tried many others and this is my favorite. This is the coffeemaker I would give as a gift to someone who really loves their coffee.

Now I will retire to my DTC-975BK and celebrate its excellence with an afternoon cup of French Roast.

The coffee maker is fine.Cone filter basket, thermal carafe. All good items.BUT the lid on the carafe is very difficult to open. The design is such that you are supposed to insert your fingers into the groove on the top of the lid and turn.If you are a woman with FINGERNAILS, this can't happen. If you have arthritis or just weak hands, you are going to have to call for help to get this coffee out.

The main flaw in the design of this pot is the lid on the carafe. If Mr. Coffee can come up with a lid that's easy to open, they'll have a great system here.

Black & Decker TCM830 10-Cup Thermal Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker Review

Black & Decker TCM830 10-Cup Thermal Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We had this coffee maker for about 9 months, then it just stopped working halfway through a brew cycle. I could not find any other reviews for it online, so I'm not sure if this is typical or not.

What I liked about it: the thermal carafe kept the coffee hot for quite awhile as long as you take it off of the machine right after brewing so that the brew-through holes close up. It is easy to fill since the water resevoir is removable. I also like the look of it. It seems fairly sturdy, and it was very easy to pour (no spilling issues as I have read about other machines).

What I didn't like: The brew-through lid has small holes that the coffee, soap, and water get into and it is very hard to get out. You have to shake it very hard to get the liquid out, and I felt like I needed to rinse it repeatedly to be sure to get any residual soap out. The pot itself has a very small opening so you have to use a bottle brush. It also has a lip that makes it hard to fully empty.

I'm not sure if we will get another of the same or try something else. It seems like alot of the thermal pots have similar cleaning issues.

I was one of the first customers of this STX brewer. Full disclosure: Bunn awarded me this Bunn as a result of me winning their video contest earlier this summer. I have used Bunn brewers for about 10 years. This particular thermal model is solidly built compared to their last model which was all plastic, and would kind of bend at the slightest pressure if any were given on the top of the machine. Not so with this one. The quality can even be seen in the grounds basket - not your usual thin plastic basket. This one is very sturdy thick plastic, surrounded by stainless steel. The coffee produced is the usual Bunn quality - great. I've used this brewer every day and it consistently gives me the same quality pot of coffee. An even better value when purchased via stores like Amazon where the price is better than what can be had in your regular retail stores.

Ok, I nearly was pushed away by the bad reviews on this appliance but decided to give it a try.I bought it about a month ago & I really like it.

I have to start by saying that I am religious about my coffee.I only drink it if it is good coffee & prepared well.I grind my beans & I only use fresh coffee.I am very picky about every aspect of coffee drinking, it isn't a habit for me but rather an experience.

With that said, I have 'tested' each of the problems mentioned in the reviews & here is what I found:

Leaking & overflowing - I have never had that problem after weeks of use, I am not sure why one of the posters had this problem, maybe they overfilled it.

Coffee grains in coffee - Nope, no problem here, the coffee is perfectly filtered with a paper filter.I haven't seen a grain of coffee yet!

Coffee not staying warm - I find that if I keep the lid shut that the coffee stays nice & warm for over 2 hours.

Hard to fill - Yes, this coffeemaker is a bit difficult to fill but as someone else suggested, I just use my sink sprayer to fill it & it is a breeze (thanks for the suggestion!).

Doesn't pour quickly - Yes this is a bit of a slow pourer but I LOVE the caraffe so much that I won't complain about that at all.Patience is a virtue!

Someone else complained that they couldn't clean the caraffe. It does have a small opening but I have found no reason to scrub it (coffee doesn't burn on the bottom like a burner coffeemaker).I rinse it out with some soap & warm water each day & it is fine.It would be easy enough to use a bottle brush as needed.

At first I was disappointed with the strength of the coffee (I am a filter-press & espresso girl & I love it strong). So, I started adding quite a bit more coffee than what was suggested. Then one day, I forgot to put the carbon filter in.As a result, the coffee was very STRONG.So, from that point on, I used the 'regular' strength level and tossed my carbon filter into the garbage. It absolutely isn't needed, I didn't notice any change in flavor. So, bypass that silly expense!

The main reason why I was intrigued by this coffeemaker is the caraffe.I love the portability.I can take it outside or into the living room to read a book or to the computer, etc.The coffee tastes just as good an hour later & there isn't the burnt taste you get from the burner-type coffeemakers.

The clock & timers are self-explanitory & work well for me.

The coffeemaker is very nice looking & looks great on my counter.

I would recommend this coffeemaker to anyone who would enjoy the benefits & portability of the caraffe. It makes great coffee & has nice styling.

this was a gift for my husband, we've had it for about 2 weeks. he tends to nurse a pot of coffee over several hours, so we thought this would be better than the conventional coffee makers. it doesn't have a warming plate, so we don't have to worry about leaving it "on" accidentally. the coffee doesn't burn after sitting there for a couple of hours. it also has a water filter insert. my husband is overjoyed, he has his hot coffee when he wants it and says it tastes better than our old coffee maker coffee. he loves the programmable coffee brewing feature as well.
