Black & Decker CMD3500MBT 8-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe Review

Black & Decker CMD3500MBT 8-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's difficult trying to research coffee makers to purchase, I realized, after looking at various ones throughout Amazon.A few products had agreement in the quality, but for a lot, the reviews seemed to be all over the place. And the ones that seemed to have really decent reviews were a bit out of the range I wanted to spend on an office coffee pot. Then I discovered this Black & Decker one that had absolutely no reviews, was in the price range I was looking for and had all the extra features (like a thermal carafe) and decided, why not? It's been a good purchase so far.

Reviewing appliances like coffeemakers is a bit outside of my normal purview and most of what I'd write about (the features) are listed above, so I'm going to make this short and sweet. The thermal carafe works wonderfully and we typically brew a pot, bring the carafe into our section and it keeps hot for the morning. The last cup feels as warm as the first, which is nice. It's only an 8 cup carafe, which could be problematic for those looking for a big pot, but it's the perfect fit for us.

One feature not listed is that it uses a charcoal filtration system. This is good and bad.The good is the filtration is a nice feature and it comes with one little charcoal patch, but after reading through the manual, it looks like the only way to order more is to go directly to Black & Decker.I noticed that Amazon has the Black & Decker TWF50 Water Filter Basket & Replacement Filter for sale via some other vendors. It's not the same model number, but the picture looks exactly like the one used in this coffeemaker (minus the color) and the replacement filters will probably fit.Unfortunately, it could become a hassle for those who want to keep up with their filter (which needs to be replaced every 60 brews/2 months).

Looking at the other features, there's a digital clock, with a screen that indicates the coffee is fresh and ready, a mechanism to choose your coffee strength that definitely works as advertised, the ability to "sneak a cup," and the carafe (unlike others we've used) pours perfectly without making a mess. All of this comes in a stylish package complete with blue lights along the side where the water level is read.

This makes for an attractive package that works perfectly and has a lot of additional features.I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

The coffee maker itself works great but the carafe is absolutely the worst I have ever had.You need to have a kitchen towel under it or you had better pour your coffee over the sink.I have resorted to using a pitcher to fill the water reservoir instead of the carafe to avoid water all over the place but what do you do once the coffee is made?Anyway--I would not recommend this coffee maker.Definitely a waste of $50.00!!!!

Technivorm Moccamaster KBTS Coffee Brewer with Thermo Carafe Review

Technivorm Moccamaster KBTS Coffee Brewer with Thermo Carafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this unit for four years and it is still going strong. The water temperature and shutoff on the filter housing make this the Ferarri of coffee makers. There is no timer, so you actually have to make the coffee.I like to let the filter fill with hot water with the flow restrictor shut. This allows me to stir the coffee and wet the entire contents, allowing it to absorb the water fully.I then allow the coffee to flow on the first setting (slow). If you don't mind a little labor and you like stick shifts, this is an amazing machine.

Update:Still use this machine daily, but there are cones now available (Clever Coffee Dripper) with the flow restrictor that do similar work (cheaper) if you don't need the carafe, don't mind heating your own water, or like to brew one or two cups at a time. Still best machine IMO.

Maxi-Matic Elite Cuisine Coffee Maker Review

Maxi-Matic Elite Cuisine Coffee Maker

I've had this for about a month. I love everything about it except that the coffee is not hot enough. Mr Coffee machines are hot enough (just to give an idea of what I think is hot enough). I love the size and I love how the part where you put the water in drains completely and no leftover steam water, so it's always clean and dry -- unlike all other machines I've tried which all scummed up after time and it was hard to clean in there. For some reason, the pot doesn't get hard water spots like all my other pots did. Sure wish it was hotter. . .

Product Description:
Brew up to 12 cups of great-tasting coffee with this easy-to-use coffeemaker. Just add a measured amount of ground coffee, pour water into the water tank using the water-level indicator on the side of the carafe and on the water reservoir for accuracy, turn the unit on, and it takes care of the rest. The included carafe also provides a generous stay-cool handle for a comfortable grip and a drip-free pouring spout for graceful serving. Best of all, the coffeemaker allows for sneaking a quick cup before the end of the brewing cycle--simply remove the carafe from the machine to pause the flow of coffee, then return it to continue the brewing process. Dishwasher-safe parts make cleanup a snap, and a reusable and removable water filter and a handy coffee scoop come included. The coffeemaker measures approximately 11-1/5 by 7-1/2 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Black Review

Black & Decker DLX1050B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked out this coffee maker because of a reasonable price and was a recommended best buy in Consumers Report magazine. I have only had a week or so and can't address long term reliability. What it does do is NOT DRIP! It does not drip when pouring from the glass pot to the water reservoir or when pouring coffee into a cup. I do NOT have to be extra careful when pouring. It also stops the coffee flow from the filter as soon as I pull the pot out and does NOT drip on the warmer. Again, do NOT have to be extra careful here. It also does NOT leak condensation out of the water reservoir top when lifting the lid. The condensation on the reservoir lid drips back into the reservoir when the lid is lifted. The time and delay brew functions ARE easy to set and work fine. The coffee brewed fairly quickly and did not overflow the filter to allow grounds into the pot. So far, I am very happy with a product that someone spent some time making user friendly and practical. This is a well engineered inexpensive product.

Krups Precision 12 Cup Coffee Maker Review

I believe that Krupps Coffeemakers make the best coffee.Mine was over ten year old and needed replacement.I didn't like the all metal look of the Coffeemakers on Amazon and was glad when they came out with this black one.It truly makes good coffee and it looks nice too.My main complaint is the water fill tank in the back is small and hard to hit the right spot without spilling (see photo). This is why I didn't give it five stars. The level indicator is also rather hard to see, and I have to guess as to how full it is.It seems like all Krupps Carafe's dribble a bit, but I am used to that by now.I still really like it, even with it's faults.

Black & Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black Review

Black & Decker SDC740B SpaceMaker 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a few different black and decker under cabinet coffee pots over the years and they were overdue for an update on the overall look of the product.I give the basic design 5 stars in that, the look is more current and if you have had the older version, you do get more noticable increase of counter usability space with this model. On the other hand, there are some annoyances with this new version.(I'm keeping the coffee maker)

For the overall rating that I provided of 3 stars, here is why.

Installation Template... JOKE
Missing measurement legends so was not usable.I held the coffer maker up to the cabinet to determine where I wanted it to be installed, measured from a few places on the coffee pot and cabinet and used the hanging bracket of the coffee maker as the template (pencil through screw holes).

Installation Hardware... screws wrong size
This is a design problem in concept, while having a bag of a bunch of different sizes solves the problem, or in my case, a hacksaw solved the problem. The ultimate reason is that there is no gap between the end of the screw when installed and the coffee pot to slide on.In older models if the screw went into the nut and came out the otherside by a 1/4 of an inch it was fine.In this model the screw must not go much past being flush to the end of the nut.... which is nuts!

Water Reservior... nice idea, but has challenges
a) Since the reservoir has such a large surface area, providing an exact amount of water is not easy. When you set it on the counter and fill it, it doesn't sit flat, etc, etc.
b) The top of the reservior is removable in order to clean it out. When you have the water around 10 cups, or more likely 12 cups, this lid doesn't seal the water in very good for a short walk from the sink to the coffee maker. Not a big deal, not a lot of dripping, but you have to pay attention to it.

Sneak a cup...Twice now we have had coffee overflow out of the filter area. This was due to the sneak a cup braket not designed very well. When you put the coffee pot into the unit, it pushes on a little handle/arm... barely. This braket opens/closes a door on the bottom of the filter. If the coffee pot is slightly off being place in properly, plan on a nice clean up of coffee on the counter.I added a little bit of bulk to the face of the bracket and I think it will solve the problem.

Removing top bracket... Geez, one of the first steps in the installation is to remove the top mounting bracket/piece from the top of the coffee maker... OMG, my wife and I were playing tug-a-war to get that dumb thing off. This should NOT come pre-connected to the coffee maker.

Handling of Water reservior and Filter.Neither have a nice handle or way to grip them. The filter part is more awkward to hold than the resourvoir, but it should be looked at.

I know I listed several things, but from the things listed, I don't think they are show-stoppers, I'll be keeping the coffee maker.

KRUPS KM8105, 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable Coffeemaker Review

KRUPS KM8105, 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Had I read these reviews before buying this coffee maker, I would have stayed away ..... far away. But it looked good in the store, so I went for it. The dripping carafe is the biggest problem. It's really bad. So I called Customer Support (1-800-526-5377) and I must say they were accommodating (must be getting a lot ofcalls on this one, or they're simply blowing me off!). They took my name and address and said they would ship a redesigned replacement carafe when they become available at the end of December (apparently the carafe's are in the process of being manufactured). I'll wait and see. I like the look and feel of the machine and the coffee is fine, it just makes a mess when you pour.

They did ask if I had the receipt and if I had the machine in front of me (yes on the receipt, no on the machine as I'm at work). However, they did not ask that I fax anything, unlike other reports I've read. So for now, I'll pour over the sink and hope they keep their word.

My one concern is in regards to a company that would actually manufacture and market a product that is obviously poorly designed to the point of being defective. Makes you wonder about the quality control for the rest of the unit. But if you own one of these, and can't or don't want to return it, call Customer Support, ask for a new and improved carafe, and keep your fingers crossed.

Update Dec 18, 2009:
True to their word, my new carafe arrived yesterday. Basically, they widened the spout and removed the baffle. Works perfectly. I'm pleased with the quick response, as I really want to like this machine. No other complaints, although the 2 stage timer advertised on the box would have been a nice addition, especially at this price. So I'm revising my rating from 1 star to 4. If you own one with the old style carafe, call customer service at the number above. The concern someone else mentioned about the removable tank eventually leaking is a possibility, I guess. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm OK with it.

I bought one of these a few months back as I need all the counter space I can get.It is perfect for my kitchen and I love the space I got.It makes a quick pot of coffee and the temp is just right.
I think the only couple downsides I see are that the place where you pour the water is a small hole, easy to miss. Also, for some reason, the clock is screwy. It is slow and it looses about an hour every day. Finally, the pot on mine broke after only a month and I cannot find a replacement for it.

I purchased a capresso coffemaker in the 1990's and loved it.However it was used so much that it wore out.It lasted about 10 years. However I could never find one to replace it that I liked.Well now Capresso has finally come up with a model that is better than the one I used to own.It makes a wonderful HOT cup of coffee and it tastes so great! It's very easy to use, especially filling the tank and I just love it.Thank you Capresso.

Brew up to 10 cups of delicious, full-flavored coffee in under eight minutes with this programmable coffeemaker. The machine provides an illuminated, 24-hour, LCD digital clock and timer with soft-touch controls for easy operation. Set the timer so that fresh, hot coffee awaits dinner guests when it's time to serve dessert or so that the aroma of a freshly brewed pot fills the house a few minutes before the alarm goes off in the morning. Removing the carafe from the coffeemaker stops the flow of coffee and allows for sneaking a quick cup before the end of the brewing process. Simply replace the carafe to restart the flow of coffee. Krups KM4065 12-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker

This review is for the Krups KM 4065 coffeemaker. I believe this is the first of a new line of coffeemakers designed Bjorn Dahlstrom. At the moment, this coffeemaker is not on the Krups website and there is little information available on the web. I've only had it for a couple of days so here are my initial thoughts.

Pros:
1. Looks fantastic
2. Seems reasonably well built and the top door opens and closes smoothly
3. This has a different water gauge from the FM series and it works well and is easy to read (no bubbles).
4. I've filled the reservoir from both a Brita pitcher and from the included carafe without spillage. (That said the fill area is at the back near the door hinge)
5. Uses #4 Filters
6. Makes a great cup of coffee
7. The included carafe pours well

Cons:
1. Pricey for a unit without a thermal carafe
2. Programming is non-intuitive and a little frustrating
3. Manual could be a lot better
4. Like most stainless steel appliances, fingerprints may be an issue if you are not careful
5. Durability of main button to open top lid remains to be determined
6. Carafe seems a little light and the cover flimsy

Overall, I am very pleased with this beautiful coffeemaker. It looks like the design changes have addressed the water gauge issue with the FM series and so far I've had no leaks. The carafe works well so coffee spillage is not a problem and most importantly my initial experience is that this machine makes good coffee.

I have deducted one star due to the fact I've only had it 2 days and can't attest to the long-term durability of the unit and it is a little pricey compared to competing units.

BUNN VPR Commercial 12-Cup Pour-Over Coffee Brewer, with 2 Warmers Review

BUNN VPR Commercial 12-Cup Pour-Over Coffee Brewer, with 2 Warmers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
About 15 years ago, I purchased a Bunn home duty coffee maker and found it to be excellent. After about 5 years of nearly daily use, it started to get a little finicky so I took it apart in an attempt to clean the hot water chamber.Turned out the sealing parts are not really made to be taken apart after 5 years of use and then go back together.

In a quest for a new Bunn, I found that the VPR cost about double what the home version cost so....10 years later, the Bunn VPR is still going strong and has helped out at family events serving large groups of people (just what the machine is designed for!).Despite having water poured into the bottom heat plate (don't try to pour water in without a carafe in place), it still works perfectly!

A hint to those who make coffee only on the weekends:the design of the Bunn is that it is a small hot water tank and keeps a couple gallons of water hot and ready to go at all times. This will use some electricity and I've taken to putting a towel over the top of mine to help insulate and lower energy usage.Additionally, being hot all the time, water will evaporate. If going more than a couple days without making coffee, it's best to pour a pitcher of water in (with the filter basket empty and a carafe ready to catch the hot water) to top off the tank and then make a pot with coffee after it has reheated the reservoir.

If by some Act of God, my Bunn stops working, I will not hesitate to purchase another Commercial Bunn for what is essentially personal, home use.If you love coffee and can tolerate the price, this is a great choice for a coffee brewer!

I love the turn on and off switch without the bells and whistles.I also have hard water, but we use distilled/purified or spring bottled water in the maker - so their is not the build up of lime in the structure.Easy to clean with vinegar.Simple model, we keep it unplugged after it's done to prevent it from overheating (if in case it ever did) - then it lasts a bit longer.Of course we find the 12 cup only equates to about 4 of our mug sizes - but then, it's good for it's size.

Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder Review

Capresso 464.05 CoffeeTeam GS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder

I'm a Top 1000 Reviewer here at Amazon, but haven't reviewed anything in years -- until now. The Capresso 464 compelled me.
First things first. This is not my first grind and brew. My old Melitta Mill & Brew, with its faulty plastic latch long since broken had become a drag. For years I had to put a box of chicken stock on top of the grind chamber to keep it shut so it would work! And while it made pretty good coffee, it seemed to waste grounds by spraying them inside the grinder basket. And the daily cleanup ritual had started to make the whole idea of grinding and brewing in one device seem only of marginal value. And yet, the alternatives, including a best-selling Cuisinart model, have notorious bad reviews here at Amazon for being a total chore to clean.

Enter the Capresso CoffeeTeam GS, which solves all of my problems with its ingenious design. No longer do you have to measure the coffee. The CoffeeTeam GS will brew from 2 to 10 cups automatically, grinding just the right amount of beans with no guesswork. Cleanup is a breeze. The filter basket swings out and is easily washed. And because the grinding occurs in a separate chamber from the filter basket, there is no wasted coffee.

The quality of the coffee is also exactly what I want -- hot, and with the full flavor of the bean preserved by the conical burr grinders. If you want stronger or weaker coffee, it's very easy to do. You can also choose finer or coarser grinds depending on the type of coffee you are using (oily coffee should be coarser, light coffee finer).

There are two items that are drawbacks, but I don't mind them so am still giving this five stars. First, the grinder is wake-up-your-wife loud. And it can go for 40 seconds if you are making a full pot. It's not so loud that it hurts your ears, but it is not pleasant, and Capresso would have done well to add some amount of noise insulation. Second, because of the design, a small amount of ground coffee is left in the machine every time. This is an issue in two respects. First, switching from one type of coffee to another is not instantaneous, because invariably there is this overlap. Second, if you leave the machine unused for more than about a week, Capresso recommends cleaning out the coffee chamber and using new coffee. That's because the coffee will get a little more stale with each passing day. But like I said, in my mind these are very minor complaints to a really great product!

KRUPS KT4065, 10-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel Review

KRUPS KT4065, 10-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have used Krups thermal carafe coffee makers for years, needing to replace them every few years because of hard water problems. We bought a Zojirushi BD-15 and it leaked water from the reservoir like a sieve, from the base of the unit.We then bought this Krups and were disappointed as soon as we started to use it.First, the lid of the coffee maker pops open to expose the basket and the fill chamber, which is a small opening in the back right corner. This isn't so bad by itself, except that you can't fill the reservoir with the carafe because the lid sufficiently obstructs the fill opening, particularly if you use the carafe which needs to be almost fully inverted because of its design. We had to use a separate container for this step. The opening of the carafe is so narrow (2.5") you can't put a hand through it to clean it.

The clincher was that the coffee maker overflowed onto the counter as it was brewing (not from the top of the basket, but from the top of the carafe).Even with careful positioning of the carafe, the coffee would not enter the carafe without some cajoling. This was a hit or miss proposition and required us to watch carefully. We are going to send this model back. They should bring back the Model 229, which was a much better design.

Mr. Coffee ISTX95 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Stainless Review

Ok, I nearly was pushed away by the bad reviews on this appliance but decided to give it a try.I bought it about a month ago & I really like it.

I have to start by saying that I am religious about my coffee.I only drink it if it is good coffee & prepared well.I grind my beans & I only use fresh coffee.I am very picky about every aspect of coffee drinking, it isn't a habit for me but rather an experience.

With that said, I have 'tested' each of the problems mentioned in the reviews & here is what I found:

Leaking & overflowing - I have never had that problem after weeks of use, I am not sure why one of the posters had this problem, maybe they overfilled it.

Coffee grains in coffee - Nope, no problem here, the coffee is perfectly filtered with a paper filter.I haven't seen a grain of coffee yet!

Coffee not staying warm - I find that if I keep the lid shut that the coffee stays nice & warm for over 2 hours.

Hard to fill - Yes, this coffeemaker is a bit difficult to fill but as someone else suggested, I just use my sink sprayer to fill it & it is a breeze (thanks for the suggestion!).

Doesn't pour quickly - Yes this is a bit of a slow pourer but I LOVE the caraffe so much that I won't complain about that at all.Patience is a virtue!

Someone else complained that they couldn't clean the caraffe. It does have a small opening but I have found no reason to scrub it (coffee doesn't burn on the bottom like a burner coffeemaker).I rinse it out with some soap & warm water each day & it is fine.It would be easy enough to use a bottle brush as needed.

At first I was disappointed with the strength of the coffee (I am a filter-press & espresso girl & I love it strong). So, I started adding quite a bit more coffee than what was suggested. Then one day, I forgot to put the carbon filter in.As a result, the coffee was very STRONG.So, from that point on, I used the 'regular' strength level and tossed my carbon filter into the garbage. It absolutely isn't needed, I didn't notice any change in flavor. So, bypass that silly expense!

The main reason why I was intrigued by this coffeemaker is the caraffe.I love the portability.I can take it outside or into the living room to read a book or to the computer, etc.The coffee tastes just as good an hour later & there isn't the burnt taste you get from the burner-type coffeemakers.

The clock & timers are self-explanitory & work well for me.

The coffeemaker is very nice looking & looks great on my counter.

I would recommend this coffeemaker to anyone who would enjoy the benefits & portability of the caraffe. It makes great coffee & has nice styling.
