(More customer reviews)The 1043 filter by Essick Air used with bacteria treatment and a freshener product produces a comfortable atmoshpere. The 1043 filter that fits BEMIS humidifiers is produced by and available from other suppliers as well. I have had bad experience using other makes with excessive odors that were admitedly from the paper and glue used.I was directed to commercial liquid treatments to help remedy it.After they did not work I tried Borax.Nothing worked.I spent hours fooling around trying to reduce or eliminate the odors.Really, you are breathing this stuff. I was afraid it would permimate drapes, rugs and clothes and create a huge problem. I also find the Essick Air filter lasts longer.I change it twice a season in the Northeast winter season.

Calling it a filter is a little misleading, as it really doesn't filter the air or the water.It really works as a tall supported sponge, to hold water within it and draw air through it.The air that is forced through the filter (which is essentially sitting in a tray of water) becomes saturated with the water, thus adding humidity to the air in your house.

This is an aftermarket filter, since Kenmore is the manufacturer of the humidifier.

There are a few minor distinctions between the "Sears" filter and this aftermarket filter, but nothing that would keep me from buying it.For example, the "Kenmore" brand filterhas clips or tape strips to keep the filter in a circle shape, when it is in the humidifier. The presumption being that the soggy filter might slump over or something.No worries.The filter is reinforced with suitable materials to keep it from losing its shape.

Bottom line here, this filter does the job, is more readily available and is cheaper than the "name brand" that one might consider otherwise.

Do you know what "Legionnaires Disease" is?If you did everything wrong in the use of a humidifier, this could be the result.Ever leave a wet sponge in a sink for too long?It gets nasty.It can hold lots of bacteria and odor. Use a anti-bacterial additive to the water tank reservoir once a week.Also throw out (or replace if you live in Alaska) the filter at the end of the winter season.Clean your humidifier (with the filter removed) before storing it for the summer.Otherwise you will have a much bigger and nastier job come next winter!

(More customer reviews)I have been trying to use this filter for the past week. It will not WICK water. The top 3/4 of the filter stays dry all time. I have to take the humidifier apart every 15 to 20 minutes and turn the filter upside down to get any use from it at all.
