ETH 300 In-Line Heater UL Listed 300 Watt for 16mm & 5/8" HoseExternal thermal heater which includes the PTC system. Suitable for all external canister filtersThe Hydor ETH in-line external heater is designed for vertical use in most aquarium applications involving water hose of the specified diameter. The ETH must be used in a vertical manner for correct operation. The most common application is for use with canister filters, however the ETH is easily adapted for use in almost any situation where heated aquarium water is required, such as with wet/dry sump pumps. The ETH is easily installed by cutting the tubing and connecting the two parts of the tube to each side of the ETH. For reduced maintenance, it is recommended that the ETH be installed within the filter`s output assembly. As most canister filters are not designed to bear weight, it is recommended that the ETH be properly supported by the use of the attached loop to avoid stress on the output assembly. The ETH is completely safe and UL Listed. There is no danger of damage if the ETH is left running dry for short periods as the ETH will switch itself off in that event. The ETH heats with high efficiency by means of an internal heat pump system that avoids temperature variations. For use in freshwater and marine aquariums. Fits most canister filters such as the Hydor Prime, the Rena Filstar, Eheim canisters, and the Fluval canisters with the use of a short section of tubing to complete the connection. (More customer reviews)I LOVE this little heater. I live in St. Pete Florida and needed a space heater for the unseasonably cold weather that we had here. I live in a 650 sq. foot, poorly insulated, garage apartment, and this heater really saved the day when it was in the 20's and 30's outside. We ran only this heater and not our central heater, as the latter costs a fortune and does very little in the way of actual heating. The space heater was used mostly in one large room that comprises about 40% of our apartment, and also in the bedroom which is about 25%. In the bedroom with the door closed this sucker kept it quite warm, even on low (and the bedroom is like 15x13 feet). Granted it takes an hour or so to heat the whole room, but it worked great (so great that we had to shut it off in the middle of the night because we were sweating under our heavy comforter). In the large room, the heater did an admirable job and kept it bearable throughout the cold spell (and that large room has so many drafts it's like all of professional sports combined). Now, with the weather more temperate (40's and 50's) this little heater heats whatever room I'm in without a problem.
I love the high and low settings and the fact that the high setting draws only 1200W (as opposed to 1500W for most space heaters). The unit is quite small and no part of it is too hot to touch at any time. It is a breeze to move from room to room. This heater would be a good choice for anyone with children or pets, as it has a knockover shut-off. It is very quiet (though not silent as some have said). In a room with any ambient noise, you're not likely to hear the heater. In a quiet bedroom it sounds like (surprise) a small fan. There are some days when it sounds a little bit rough on startup, but this noise goes away within a minute or so.
My unit has held up great (I've had it for a few months now and ran it 24 hrs a day for weeks), but I am very careful not to knock it or use it in a humid area (like a bathroom). I could see this heater breaking if it is knocked over or hit against something while moving it between rooms. Also, I take care to hold the heater with one hand whenever I turn the on/off knob with the other hand, because the knob takes a good bit of torque to rotate. If I were to turn the knob without holding the heater I would be twisting the whole heater on its base which could potentially damage the oscillation feature. With proper care this heater seems like it will fare well.
For me, this heater was a great buy. It was relatively inexpensive, it is small and easy to store, and it puts out an admirable amount of heat for its size. I wouldn't rely on it to bring a large room up to a short sleeve and shorts temperature in the dead of winter, but it will definitely take the edge off the cold. In a closed room this heater will bring the temperature up nicely.
Amazon, as always, was a pleasure to deal with. Oddly, the manufacturer's packaging looked like it had been opened and re-taped, but the interior packaging appeared factory fresh. I guess it could have been opened and re-sealed, or the Sunpentown factory just tapes up their boxes sloppily. Either way, the heater is great, and I am quite pleased.

Took about 5 min to warm a 63 degree room to 72!Takes up little space, I put mine in the corner and you don't even know its there. It is also an attractive unit that I don't mind having in any room of the house.The remote controol is a plus also. I Did not think I needed it, but now that I have it, I love that feature also.There is an easy to use timer on the unit also.That is a nice feature so you don't forget to turn it off when you go to work etc.I am thinking about ordering another one as this is such a handy unit.With heating costs this winter it is a money saver to use this electric unit to supplement your heat.

Marineland Eclipse Acrylic Aquarium System Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great starter aquarium.Order a book or two about having fish when you order the aquarium too and wait a week before getting fish.

In years past you'd have all sorts of work with the filters and such.With the bio-wheel that comes with this tank your only work is to occasionally replace the "physical filter" and do a partial water change.That's it!The tank also comes with a beautiful light that'll really make your fish shine.

You will need some gravel too and some plants and maybe a stone or two for the fish to hide behind.The gravel and such are best picked up at your local pet store. Start out with plastic plants rather than live plants; you'll have plenty to do anyway.

In my experience things are easier if you have a heater too.The fish likes the water temperature to be constant.I've been using a 150w heater with good success in this tank.

Let the tank run with the heater for a day or two to get the temperature stable.When you add your first fish, start out with just a few small fish (actually, in a 12 gallon tank you should always only have small fish, little tetras and such -- don't worry, they are beautiful) to get the bio-wheel going. Your books will explain it, but it takes some time for the biological processes to get going in the tank and keep things in balance, so the water can get poisonous quickly for your fish if you add too many.(Get a packet of test strips to test the water quality daily -- it's just when you get started, later the bio-wheel will keep things steady unless you keep too many fish in the tank).

I can also recommend getting another tank, maybe a 3 gallon tank, to keep new fish in before they go in the main tank.(Of course that only works if you keep small fish, with bigger fish the 12 gallon tank would be your quarantine tank...):-)
