i have had my biocube for about a year and a half now and unfortunatly the lights stopped working.I thought it was the lights so i bought new ones.then i figured it was the ballast but i checked both and they work just fine.so i was about to give up on the system untill i contacted oceanic.I sent an email and they responded the next day.they said that as long as i bought it within the year they would be glad to replace it.I had bpughten it 13 months ago.But I told them my story and expressed that it has been difficult finding parts for the 8 gallon they completely made good and sent me out a complete hood!!!They are the best ever!!! i will only buy oceanic for now on. Not just for a great product but because of the excellent customer service!

Aqua End Table 670 Aquarium Review

Aqua End Table 670 Aquarium
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This table is something that you want to think very long and hard about before buying. I bought this table about a year ago and still enjoy it very much. Some of the positives are that no one i know has ever heard of a fish tank table before, therefore adds class to our home well as a conversation starter. Our was son 6 months old when we bought this table still loves to take naps on the floor by it. The sound of the water movement is pacifying well as he loves to watch the fish and the bubblers in motion. Now some of the negatives. The table being all glass and acrylic glass means everything is very visible. To use a filter and/ or a bubbler in this tank the wires and the filter itself are very noticeable. I strongly dislike that they are noticeable. But the underwater filter supplied with the tank is quiet small. I was thinking of buying a few small mirrors the size of the filter and placing them around the filter to some what make the filter less noticeable. This problem still did not discourage me from loving this table. Another issue is the wires to plug in the under the table light, the filter and the bubblers. If you have hardwood floors you can just buy a throw rug to hide the cords. I, on the other hand have carpeting in my living room. And also rent a half double. My landlord was nice enough to let me cut two little holes in the carpet. One under the tank and one under my couch. There is an outlet behind my couch. I strung the cords under the carpeting. This is very unnoticeable and worked great. The only problem this method posed was that in order to add a new device or get rid of another one i would have to unstring and restring them through the carpet. I do not like the filter that the tank came with because it is very hard to find replacement cartridges for it. I cant get them at a regular pet store, i have to special order them. Another issue is the lighting. The tank comes with a small light that shines one direction. Two are needed for equal lighting. I cannot find this light anywhere online to purchase a second. If i place the light under the middle of the tank, half of the tank is dark while half is perfectly lit. If i place it under the far edge (where i found was best to have it), the tank is all lit but dimmer on the far side. No heater can be used in this tank because it will cause condensation on the lid, the table top itself. that does not look pretty. I have hardy fish like goldfish, guppies, mollies, ect that are doing fine without the heater. Another issue is i am a big fan of bubblers and bubble stones. I love to have many bubblers in my tank. The bubbles pop at the top of the water creating droplets of water on the lid of the tank. After having this water on the inside lid of the tank my lid is now stained. I clean it and clean it and the water mark from where my bubblers are will not go away. To prevent the water droplets on the lid i would not fill the tank as high as it could go. But to me that was less room for my happy fish. In my opinion this tank would be a lovely idea for just water and plants. not a prosperous fish environment. Another issue i cant forget is how easily dirtied the lid gets. Yes i have a baby. And he loves to stick his sticky fingers all over the glass. So if you are an older couple, and the kids are grown up this is a great tank for you. Even will all the negative i have listed, i still enjoy my fish tank table. So think hard about whether or not you want it before spending the huge amount of money. This tank doesnt take a lot to maintain, the only thing is cleaning the glass everyday where my son messes.

Aquavista 500 Wall Mounted Aquarium with Seaweed Background Review

Aquavista 500 Wall Mounted Aquarium with Seaweed Background
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The instructions are pretty skimpy, but not much assembly is required since most accessories (heater, air pump, lamp, background) are built into the unit.

After securing the wall bracket and putting the bio rings on the filter sponge, the book says to fill it with water, then hang it on the wall bracket.I thought, why risk a crippling back injury?Hanging it BEFORE adding the water seemed more sensible, and using a bucket and step stool was easier for me.

It comes with a net, the gravel, a long-handled "grabber", a suction hose for water changes, a scrubber, 3 sponge filters and about 50 bio-rings for the filtering system. The air pump for the bubbler is a little loud, but you can turn it on or off with the electric control. The temperature, lights, and filtering are all controlled with the side panel, either automatically or manually. You always have to reset the clock should you need to turn the tank off, but your other settings are retained and the constant temperature readout is in nice big numbers.

The T-4 lighting tube didn't work from the getgo,so I attempted to unscrew the lamp cover and check the connections. The screws are tiny T-9 torx-head, but the fixture was DOA. Customer service did send me a new one, however.

The top flips up for access, and the unit has a 3/8" thick 6 ft. electrical cord. I wanted to hide it with cord cover, but it's a little big so I'll probably just paint it grey to match my wall.

There's not much floor space for decor and plants, but adding a few is good for the fish and adds depth and beauty to the background. On top, the small surface area of water-to-air restricts the amount of water oxygenation, so use the air pump a lot to compensate.

Being only about 4 inches wide limits the choice of occupants who can actually turn around in it.The booklet suggests several species that would be too large within a couple of months, so please disregard unless you plan on buying a larger aquarium soon. After cycling the tank through its deadly ammonia spike, I finally decided on 4 fancy guppies. They're a small but hardy and active species, and come in beautiful colors. It might also make a good Betta tank, since the filtering system is gentle, but they don't like rapid water movement or air bubblers.

Keep in mind that the small water volume is less forgiving and can quickly turn poisonous from fish waste, so plan on doing more frequent water changes and maintenance than the book suggests.I siphon out 1/3, or two gallons, every week and replace it with fresh, dechlorinated tap water of the same temperature.

For the price I wish I had bought a bigger tank, but there's a premium for convenience and "living art", and it does look pretty cool on my wall, I have to admit. As long as you're aware of its limitations, it should bring you lots of enjoyment.

This tank looks great. We purchased one of the 1.77 gal tanks for our son along with a male Beta. The only problem with it is that the filter is too strong for the size of the tank. When we placed the fish in the tank he freaked out and couldn't stop swimming around because the current was too strong. We had to pull the filter out and now we have to change out the water once a week. It's more work than we wanted for ourselves and our 6 1/2 year old son.

I got this little kit for my crown-tail betta Zurich. I think it's a fantastic little tank if you stock it correctly and know how to work with nano systems.

Granted for most if not all suitable fish you will need a heater, as the tank design causes anything on the rear wall to be magnified I opted for a small 7.5 watt under gravel heater, it works like a charm and my fish stays nice and happy.
Hydor MINI HEATER Aquarium Heater 7.5 Watts for Tanks 2-5 gal

I use this tank for a planted set up and could only be happier if it came with a small internal filter rather then the UGF, but whatcha gonna do? It's not a big deal to me since I'm familiar with them from previous years of fish keeping. I've posted a picture with more information on my setup in the photo section as well.

It's been running for 3 weeks and so far I have not had any issues with bacterial blooms (cloudy water) or regular cleaning and water changes. If you have any questions feel free to comment, I'll be happy to answer =)

I have two units plumbed in sequence.Very reliable, appears to be safe. There have been some power outages and the units seem unaffected.

Product Description:
ETH 300 In-Line Heater UL Listed 300 Watt for 16mm & 5/8" HoseExternal thermal heater which includes the PTC system. Suitable for all external canister filtersThe Hydor ETH in-line external heater is designed for vertical use in most aquarium applications involving water hose of the specified diameter. The ETH must be used in a vertical manner for correct operation. The most common application is for use with canister filters, however the ETH is easily adapted for use in almost any situation where heated aquarium water is required, such as with wet/dry sump pumps. The ETH is easily installed by cutting the tubing and connecting the two parts of the tube to each side of the ETH. For reduced maintenance, it is recommended that the ETH be installed within the filter`s output assembly. As most canister filters are not designed to bear weight, it is recommended that the ETH be properly supported by the use of the attached loop to avoid stress on the output assembly. The ETH is completely safe and UL Listed. There is no danger of damage if the ETH is left running dry for short periods as the ETH will switch itself off in that event. The ETH heats with high efficiency by means of an internal heat pump system that avoids temperature variations. For use in freshwater and marine aquariums. Fits most canister filters such as the Hydor Prime, the Rena Filstar, Eheim canisters, and the Fluval canisters with the use of a short section of tubing to complete the connection. Use of the ETH cleaning brush is recommended.Features: Completely safe. No danger of damage if the equipment is left running without water for a short period of time. Patented heating element made with the exclusive PTC system. The traditional metal resistor coils have been replaced by a special polymer sheet, silk-screened with heating ink. Setting of temperature controlled by an electronic circuit with indicator light. Connectors suitable for any flexible pipe of all external filters. Two year

(Price/1)Size 14 Biocube Aquarium System Review

(Price/1)Size 14 Biocube Aquarium System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own the 14 gallon tank w/ stand model and I couldn't be happier. This was my first attempt at keeping saltwater fish. Although, the tank isn't very big, it is enough to put quite enough of live rock, cleaning crew, and a fish or two. In my tank, I have live rock, an anemone, 1 clownfish, 5 hermit crabs, 3 snails, a yellow watchman goby, the goby's buddy the Pistol Shrimp, sand-sifter starfish, and a fighting conch. The filter that is built in the back of the tank, is more than capable in handling the amount of life in the tank. The current is nice and strong as well. The end of the pipe on the left side of the tank that gives the tank a nice current can be moved. The middle compartment of the filter is filled with biocubes. I replaced them with small crushed rock and a sand substrate in a bag. Also, the carbon filter in the right compartment was replaced with filter pads. When the tank was first set up, I added the biological agent. When your tank is initially set up, it has to be kept going for at least a month. In the aquarium store that I go to, they have ready made water. I find it so much easier to keep my tank in an equilibrium. It also reduces any stress that might be caused if you are adding salt or other chemicals to match what your tank was when you replace some water. I find this tank also, very easy to take care of. I replace about 2 gallons of water every 2 months. I test the water monthly (sometimes every 2-3 random weeks) to make sure everything is ok. If you keep enough of the "clean team" in this tank, the tank pretty much cleans itself. The clean team can include; snails, hermit crabs, and starfish. My goby also gobbles up sand but it exits through his gills. It keeps the sand from clumping up. If you have a pistol shrimp; even better. But I caution you with a pistol shrimp. If you like your sand flat and equal, HE WILL DESTROY THAT! Think of a small bulldozer. This tank and its inhabitants keep it so clean, my anemone has grown from the size of a oreo cookie to about the size of putting your right and left hands side by side. Again, this tank is very easy to maintain. For beginners, it's perfect. For experts, they will find this tank too small but if you like reef set ups, it's the perfect size.

The stand, is nice. It blends in with the tank and is pretty sturdy. The inside has enough room to keep your fish supplies in it with some extra room. I have my fish supplies and my hamster supplies in the cabinet.

The lights; one white and one violet are nice. This tank also has 2 LED lights but after 5 months, they died. They did leave a nice little "hue" when they were on mimicking sun rays that penetrate the ocean. The tank light also can be left on for several hours and the water won't heat up. This tank is equipped with fans when the white light is on. This makes sure the temperature in the tank is constant and doesn't skyrocket. Replacement lights are available on the company website and some can be replaced at your local aquarium.

All and all, this is a great starter tank and for those who love saltwater fish but don't want a huge tank. It's easy to setup and maintain. It's also very quiet. If you have an idea about what you want to put in the tank, Oceanic Systems has several models. I saw a 32 gallon tank and if I'm not mistaken, a 64 gallon tank is available.

Finally, I've never had any problem with fish, crabs, or snails from going into the filter compartments.

biOrb Aquarium Kit with Light Fixture Review

biOrb Aquarium Kit with Light Fixture
Average Reviews:

I totally recommend this aquarium kit for anyone just starting out in the fish-keeping hobby.Vitually everything you'll need comes in the box. However, when I bought my BiOrb a year ago, there was no heater included. If you want to keep tropical fish, you will likely need to purchase BiOrb's heater kit if they haven't yet decided to include a heater in the package. You can purchase a small heater at any good pet store, but it's likely to be a bit of an eyesore in the BiOrb.

I keep 3 dwarf African frogs and one dwarf puffer in the BiOrb and there is ample room.Cleaning day is about every 8 weeks and is generally only a matter of changing a few gallons of water and taking out the old filter cartridge and putting a new one in.The tank is well-aerated and you never see fish gasping for air at the top.Plus, it's a gorgeous tank.

My only complaint is that when I bought the BiOrb, I had no idea that they would soon come out with a 16-gallon version.I definitely would have gotten the larger tank, since with the smaller one, you have to severely limit the number of fish or aquatic creatures you keep in it.With the 16 gallon tank, you can have double the number of pets.Still, I'm very happy with my BiOrb.

Product Description:
The Baby biOrb is a sophisticated aquarium that bestows the soothing sensation of swimming fish at home or at the office. It requires very little maintenance, and all supplies, including a halogen light and a comprehensive instruction guide, are provided. The unique, built-in 5-stage filtration system combines biological, chemical, and mechanical filtration to keep the water healthy and crystal-clear for months between simple filter changes. The filter cartridge conveniently lasts up to 8 weeks, so cleaning the BiOrb is quite easy. Since the filter is barely visible at the bottom of the globe, it causes no obstruction of the underwater view when the biOrb is filled. The durable, bowl-shaped Plexiglass allows a perfect 360-degree viewing angle, and the built-in halogen light provides full observation of the swimming fish any time of day. The compact size and silver trim allow it to blend into any desk, counter, table, shelf, or mantel. The Baby biOrb measures 13 x 13 x 13 inches and is covered by a manufacturer's warranty.

OC BIOCUBE SYSTEM - SIZE 14 Review

OC BIOCUBE SYSTEM - SIZE 14
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For my first try at having a salt water tank, I figure to buy a small tank. This tank is perfect for a apartment/co-op or for homes with not an abundance of space (for a tank). Ultimatly, it's a great tank for beginners. I created a reef tank complete with live rock, an anemone, clownfish, 3 snails, 5 hermit crabs, a yellow watchman goby, pistol shrimp (has a symbiotic relationship with the goby), fighting conch, and a sand sifter starfish. On the top of the tank, it comes with a white light and a violet light. When the violet light is on, there is a fan that circulates to prevent the light from heating the tank water. I haven;t had any issue with fish jumping into the filter or pump area. Make sure the wires/plugs are not sitting on the tank hood. There are openings on the side that allow the plugs/wires to go through.

This tank has the filter built in on the back. I replaced the carbon that the tank came with, with filter pads. In the middle compartment, I took out the bio-balls and replaced it with crushed rock and sand. This keeps the tank filtered and allows the bacteria (good) to flourish. The current is very strong and you can adjust it. The filter/current/air pump is very quiet. There is no need for a separate air pump.

The tank is easy to maintain. This is great for beginners as well as experts who don't have the time to maintain a rather large tank. The downside is that if you plan on buying large fish; this tank is too small. When I bought this tank, the stand came with it at a much lower price. The stand is nice. The cabinet opens to reveal nice space inside to hide all your fish supplies. There is enough room, I keep my parakeet food in their too. No, I haven't accidently fed my fish parakeet food :)

*One small note*

If you have a Pistol Shrimp in this tank, keep an eye on the amount of sand it bulldozes. On the bottom right side of the tank, there is a vent for the filter. If the pistol shrimp covers it up, the filter might spit out the sand and hurt the anemones in the tank. I caught it in time! My clownfish was giving me the look of," save him, save him, save him!!!!"

*Less than a year after I bought this tank. the blue light died. Then the fans near the white light began to make noise (not loud, but you can hear it). Getting a hold of the company is not recommend, they don't respond; however, your local fish store/aquarium center probably has both lights in stock as well as replacement fans. Mine did! <----Update on the fans 10/4/10 The fan noise stopped. No replacing was needed. It just might be this model. I've checked the fans and they were working properly. I still say that this is a great tank for beginners or for those who don't want a huge tank to take care of. You can have enough rocks and living things in it to make you happy. In my tank, I have: 1 Yellow Watchman Goby, 1 Ocellaris Clownfish (tank raised), 1 Sebae Anemone (the clownfish snuggles and lives in it), 5 Hermit crabs, 1 snail, 1 under gravel snail ( I forget it's name), 1 Japanese pistol shrimp, and 1 Sand Sifter Starfish. If you buy hermit crabs, make sure they are of the same size (or slightly smaller) or else you'll have a crab war. If you have a pistol shrimp, you cannot put other shrimp in the tank (for example: cleaning, peppermint or fire shrimp). I also have a 10 gallon (regular, not biocube) tank which has my 2 Sea Horses (have them since February '10), 1 sand snail, and a peppermint shrimp. They are in the tank with the Sea Horses to keep the tank clean :) It's good to have a clean team in your tank but don't get a lot of them or they will turn on each other.

It is an ideal tank size for a betta. The filter works just fine and not too strong for the betta. I like the two convenient open holes for easy feeding. The light seems to generate too much heat if it is turned on for a long period of time which can cause the top cover melting out. Marineland Eclipse Acrylic Aquarium System Review

Marineland Eclipse Acrylic Aquarium System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great starter aquarium.Order a book or two about having fish when you order the aquarium too and wait a week before getting fish.

In years past you'd have all sorts of work with the filters and such. With the bio-wheel that comes with this tank your only work is to occasionally replace the "physical filter" and do a partial water change. That's it!The tank also comes with a beautiful light that'll really make your fish shine.

You will need some gravel too and some plants and maybe a stone or two for the fish to hide behind. The gravel and such are best picked up at your local pet store. Start out with plastic plants rather than live plants; you'll have plenty to do anyway.

In my experience things are easier if you have a heater too.The fish likes the water temperature to be constant.I've been using a 150w heater with good success in this tank.

Let the tank run with the heater for a day or two to get the temperature stable. When you add your first fish, start out with just a few small fish (actually, in a 12 gallon tank you should always only have small fish, little tetras and such -- don't worry, they are beautiful) to get the bio-wheel going. Your books will explain it, but it takes some time for the biological processes to get going in the tank and keep things in balance, so the water can get poisonous quickly for your fish if you add too many.(Get a packet of test strips to test the water quality daily -- it's just when you get started, later the bio-wheel will keep things steady unless you keep too many fish in the tank).

I can also recommend getting another tank, maybe a 3 gallon tank, to keep new fish in before they go in the main tank.(Of course that only works if you keep small fish, with bigger fish the 12 gallon tank would be your quarantine tank...):-)

Good luck!
