Mr. Coffee JHX33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with eLume Touch-Screen Technology Review

Mr. Coffee JHX33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with eLume Touch-Screen Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using Mr. Coffee coffeemakers for years, and although they have generally been reliable and customer service has been helpful when needed, I found myself with a new kitchen arrangement and needed a coffeemaker that allows one to put the coffee grounds and the water in from the side, rather than lifting a lid from front to back, as almost all coffeemakers do.This maker has a lid on the left for the coffee and another one on the right for the water.I find it to be a perfect arrangement.There is also a control to change the quality of the coffee from regular to stronger and the like, but for the most part it just makes the same good coffee Mr. Coffee always produces.At the same time, although one can grow weary of the fact that Mr. Coffee seems to invent a new carafe for every maker, this new one, with a plastic top, seems to eliminate the problems of dripping that I've had so often with Mr. Coffee products in the past:it pours cleanly every time.The touchscreen business is nice looking and fancy, but that is secondary to me.If anything, I worry most about the touchscreen holding up over time.But the maker looks good, it brews fine coffee, it has side openings for the coffee grounds and water, and the carafe seems finally to have solved the problems with dripping that also seemed to accompany earlier products.It's a bit more expensive than most Mr. Coffee products, but it's well worth it.

Product Description:
With its sleek, stylish design, this 12-cup coffeemaker not only looks great on the counter, but it also provides an array of convenient features. Enjoy easy reading and programming thanks to its unique, digital eLume touch-screen control panel, which offers "brew now", "delay brew", "brew strength", "clean", and other options for simple operation and maintenance. Even more, the control panel goes dark for a hidden effect when not in use, adding to its sophisticated appearance. To brew, simply add ground coffee to the removable filter insert, which lifts out of the brew basket for easy filling and cleaning; pour a measured amount of water into the water tank, replace the carafe, and make a selection. The included 12-cup carafe provides measuring marks up the side, a generous stay-cool handle, and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. Removing the carafe from the machine midbrew pauses the flow of coffee and allows for pouring a quick cup, and after a two-hour keep-warm mode, the unit shuts off automatically for safety and peace of mind. Housed in durable, black plastic with gleaming chrome accents, the coffeemaker measures 7-1/5 by 11-1/2 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker Review

Bodum Santos Stovetop Glass Vacuum 34-Ounce Coffee Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Bodum Santos Vacuum Coffeemaker makes excellent coffee.Smooth, full flavored, hot.This model requires more interaction than a percolator or drip coffeemaker.If you're not willing to participate in the coffee making process, don't purchase this coffeemaker.However, the end result is well worth the few extra minutes required.Some tips that may be useful:

1.)Use coarse grinds to avoid clogging the filter;

2.)When placing the upper chamber on the lower carafe, make sure there is a good seal between the two globes, as this will help in the vacuum process;

3.)Always make sure there is at least a centimeter or two of water remaining in the lower carafe, otherwise the carafe will crack;

4.)Allow the water and grinds to mix together in the upper chamber for a minute or two before removing from heat source (coarse grinds produce a weaker flavor compared to finer grinds, so allow a bit more time for the water to extract the flavor of the beans while in the upper chamber);

5.)Remove the entire coffeemaker from the heat source and carefully place on a cool surface, keeping in mind that the coffeemaker will be top heavy and hot;

6.)If the coffee remains in the upper chamber and doesn't completely drain to the bottom carafe, return the entire coffeemaker to the heat source again for a minute, then remove again to a cool surface;

7.)Purchase a good thermos or insulated carafe to transfer your remaining coffee to (Nissan Thermos is a good brand, check out reviews on Amazon.com).

8.)Coffeegeek.com and Coffeekid.com have additional information on vacuum brewing.

Pros:Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter.The process is fun.Clean up is easy, if done soon after brewing.Affordable from Amazon.com when on sale.Reusable filter.Coffee is hot, full-flavored, and not bitter.(It's worth mentioning twice.)

Cons:Capacity is only 8 cups (32 oz.).Filter can sometimes be unreliable.Uses more grinds than average peculator or drip models.Extra caution needed when using, as most of the coffeemaker is made of glass.Instructions are scant.

Five stars for a wonderful product.

Product Description:
There is a good reason you can find a SANTOS coffeemaker in nearly every Scandinavian home, this vacuum brewing system has been fascinating coffee lovers for over sixty years.In the fifties, Peter Bodum, the father of today's owner, Jorgen Bodum, imported an French vacuum coffee maker and sold it on the Danish Market.Although he found it both unsatisfactory and expensive, he was convinced that the vacuum brewing system was an excellent way to brew an exquisite cup of coffee. Thus, the first Bodum Santos vacuum coffee maker was born.In collaboration with Danish designer Kaas Klaeson, Peter Bodum developed what we know today as the SANTOS, establishing the credo:‘good design doesn't have to be expensive'.The magic of the Santos holds both adults and children spellbound as they watch the boiling water rush from the bottom glass jug to the upper one where it gets mixed with freshly ground coffee. After a few minutes off the stovetop, a vacuum forms in the base which pulls rich black coffee through a filter and back into the bottom jug. This captivating process combines the ideal water temperature with just the right brewing time and makes for superb results. Whatever your preferred coffee and roast, the Santos vacuum system brings out the very best aromas in your cup.

Honeywell HCM-300T QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier Review

Honeywell HCM-300T QuietCare 3-Gallon UV Tower Humidifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought two of these in fall 06. After two months use, one of the units had a fan failure. It ran noisily for a few days prior to the failure, then ground to a halt. I called Kaz's customer service (the Honeywell name is licensed), and they agreed to send me a new one free. After five months use, the second unit failed in exactly the same way. This time, customer service required me to pay $20 for a new one to be shipped, and they required in each case the return of the defective one at my cost for shipping. They are simply NOT durable! We now have one in service, with the other as a backup since we anticipate a product failure this winter. One other thing: they are awkward to fill. The water chamber has a curved bottom so it will not sit flat in your sink. You have to balance it with one hand, and operate the faucet and put on the lid with the other. This design defect is SO obvious it makes you wonder how function followed form in product design. You also need a fairly deep sink or a tall spigot to fill it without tipping it and spilling. The filling problem is aggravating since you need to fill it at least twice daily. As far as ability to humidify, it works reasonably well, and is fairly quiet. But I wouldn't recommend this unit at all after living with it.

Bissell Steam Mop Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner, 31N1 Review

Bissell Steam Mop Deluxe Hard Floor Cleaner, 31N1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After hearing wonderful things about steam mops from my friends, I starting doing research on them.I was anxious to retire my Swiffer which, as a mop, was better than nothing, but it left my dark hardwood floors streaky and I felt like I was just pushing the dirt around on the ceramic tile in my kitchen.I borrowed my neighbor's Shark and after using it one time knew that I wanted a different mop.I was excited to see this new model from Bissell as I had narrowed it down to a Bissellor the Eureka Enviro-Steam.[...] so I decided on the Bissell.The Bissell 31N1 was easy to put together, and includes a hanger so that you can hang your steam mop for storage.I used distilled water since it is supposed to prolong the life of the filter it comes with.The pads are substantial and easy to attach and stay in place while mopping.The unit took a little while to warm up but has an indicator light to tell you when it is ready.In use I saw hot steam pouring out which was great.The floors stayed wet for a while after use, but just like what happens when you mop a floor.I think I was trigger happy so I probably won't hit the steam button as much next time and try to spread the steam around a little bit better.I did dry the hardwoods after I used it as a precaution and that was fine.I was disappointed to see my hardwood floors were still streaking but a neighbor told me that once all of the other floor cleaners come off the floor (after I continue to use my steam mop), the streaks will go away.I hope so.A cleaning person I used sprayed furniture polish on the hardwoods (argh!) so it might be a while.I still think the floors are wonderfully clean and the mop is easy to swivel around and use with the cord being a nice length.I didn't have water leak on the floor like the other reviewer but perhaps that is because I removed the water tank immediately after use - not sure.I think you would be happy with this mop.I clean up after a 2 and 4 year old so life is good now.

Product Description:
Ideal for the chemically sensitive or those with small children, the Bissell Steam Mop Deluxe deep-cleans hard-surface floors using the power of pure water alone. This Deluxe version of the popular Steam Mop also comes with Bissell's Carpet Glide attachment, which can be used to refresh your carpet and give it a deep cleaning.
Heated and ready to use in 30 seconds, the remarkably quiet mechanism works something like an iron: steam is dispensed on demand, rather than continuously, by pressing the trigger while passing the mop over the floor. Hot steam easily removes hardened and sticky gunk, especially if the mop sits over the mess for a few seconds. (Leave it in place 15 seconds to actually sanitize the cleaning surface.) The machine steams for approximately 15 minutes before the tank needs to be refilled, but there's no lag once you refill it.
The Steam Mop's low-profile 360-degree swiveling head accesses hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, like under kitchen cabinets, while its compact profile stores easily in small spaces. The removable water tank can be refilled with water any time during use and the Steam Mop's water purification system removes minerals and other impurities from tap water, preventing water deposits from damaging the unit (distilled or demineralized water can also used in place of tap water). Durable, reusable microfiber pads are safe on all sealed hard surfaces and clean up nicely in the washing machine, making them more environmentally friendly than disposable options. Other features include a 20-inch cord length, 9-inch cleaning path, and storage hook on the handle. The unit weighs 9 pounds and is backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Assembly required.
