(More customer reviews)I purchased this pump as a package deal with the 16 watt bio/uv fish mate filter. It's a great little pump and you can't beat the price. Pump does not come with a filter pad but you can pick one up at places like Lowes or Home Depot. The inlet reciever on the Fishmate filter is a little bit small if you're running a length(5 to 6 feet or more) on a pitch. You might encounter a flow problem.

I stepped the size of the inlet up by gluing a coupling onto it and chose a hose size that fit over the coupling. This fixed the flow problem I was having. I didn't have a problem with too much flow after I did this, it was perfect. If you're running a length that's less then 5 feet(pump to filter) on a pitch, I'd recommend using the standard inlet that's given.

There'a also a "flow valve" that's included with the pump for a waterfall flow adjustment you can modify to use if needed.

(More customer reviews)This pump is awsome only 130 watts for 2900 gphvs my old sunterra that sucked 550 watts 2000 gph for not much of a waterfall effect. I did upgrade the output hose to do 1 1/2 inch ID vs my old one of only 1 inch. This pump is definatly a waterfall pump, you can hear the water from quite a distance.This is delivering two to three times the output my old pump for about 1/4 the electric cost.I have a waterfall and a stream running into my pond and this pump delivers pleanty of waterto run both very effectivly.My only concern is I may have to install a valve to tame it down a touch if need be if the neighbors start complaining.

(More customer reviews)I bought one of these pumps and it workded perfectly...so much so that I recommended it to my friends and also bought 2 new pumps for my new pond. HOWEVER, there seems to be a manufacturing defect in the newer pumps because on both of my new pumps...the hose connecting the pump to the filter does not fit tightly...I connected one of the pumps in the morning and went to work and when I came home in the evening I noticed that the pump was very low...I decided to clean the filters...then I realised that the filter was no longer even connected to the pump...so I reconnected it and turned back on the pump but it still did not work any better...I then proceeded to take a better look and thats when I realised that because the hose had disconnected from the pump it was jus sucking water from the bottom of the pond and had sucked in one of my baby Kois and killed it.

I am not discouraging anyone from buying this pump but if you do make sure you put on a hose clamp or something to prevent it from killing your baby fishes.

(More customer reviews)I have purchased four of these pumps over the past 5 years.Luckily they have two year warranties with them, because you will need it. The first two ran for about 4 months, then would randomly turn off and on until they quit altogether.I was promptly sent two replacements, which lasted the rest of the summer, then quit for no reason in early December.Sunterra sent me two more, and they lasted until about July of the next summer, then they broke.The impellers will just disintegrate after a while.I inquired about replacements, and they told me my warranty was expired.So I bought two more, hoping to not have the same issues.These were the same model number, but a different, newer style.Guess what?They worked for a short time, then the impellers broke on them too.Keep in mind, my pond is crystal clear and has no debris to impede the flow of water.These just break for no reason.I wrote Sunterra an email, and they sent me two replacements.I just opened them and they were both broken before I even got a chance to use them.I have since contacted them for replacements for my replacements, but after this warranty is over, I will never buy another Sunterra pump again.

(More customer reviews)I have been using this pump for about a month, and it has been working well.It pumps a pond at the bottom of a waterfall, through a filter, and into the upper pond.The lift is about 3 ft, so I get about 500 gph for the system.

The pump seems sturdy and well built.No problems so far.

The only issue with the order is that the description said the filter was a foam block, when in fact it was a plastic cage.I don't have an issue with this because the cage works better in my application (pumping some silt is not an issue).

(More customer reviews)First, the seller, OK Sales did a fine job.They packaged and shipped as you would wish.The pump, however has issues.This came with a nice filter box and generous filter pads.This is ideal for my pond, under the live oak tree.The pump, while listed as 210 gallons, was very small in size and was not a very strong push.It went at one speed then drastically dropped pressure to a dribble.I contacted the Beckett company.They were VERY nice and agreed to ship another pump for a $5 fee.OK, I'll go along with that.I haven't received the new one yet as I just completed the transaction with Beckett.If I had it to do over, I'd go with another Pondmaster brand.

I just bought my third one yesterday and had a note to myself to buy another one next month so that I'd have it when the current one failed. Unfortunately I was one month under in my prediction. I predicted one year 10 months and it failed at one year nine months.

I run mine 24 hours a day every day in a pond that holds around 400-500 gallons.

A filter tip that works for me after years of experimentation and does not require a lot of maintenance: put about an inch of aquarium gravel in the bottom of a medium square pond plant basket. Place the pump inside the basket and then cover it with more gravel so the gravel is to the top of the basket. Every few weeks or as needed vacuum the upper layer of gravel with a large Python aquarium siphon Python No Spill Clean and Fill. Vacuuming the gravel will restore the water flow.

Has a nice space in the bottom of the filter to put the bio balls for that added biological filter. So easy to remove, replace the pads and be up and running again. A real cost saver because the pads can be rinsed and used again. You should get an extra set, it makes it easy for when you change the pads.

(More customer reviews)We have two of these. One is 250 gph and one is 500 gph. They've both been running 24/7 for over a year and we haven't had any trouble with either one of them. The filters are easy to get out and clean and replacement filter media is readily available and inexpensive. Just make sure everything is properly and securely reconnected if you take them apart so baby fish won't get sucked in. We've never had a problem getting the hose reconnected or putting the thing back together.

We haven't noticed that our electric bill in any worse because of these.

Our pond is approximately 300 gals with goldfish and plants. We loosely cover the pond in the winter with greenhouse plastic (using a dome-shaped frame made of PVC sprinkler pipe) so the pumps can continue to run and provide aeration for the fish all year long.

UPDATE: June 18, 2009 - both pumps are still going strong. I am currently buying new sets of filter media as the original filters have finally started to fall apart -- although they are still usable, they are just getting shaggy looking and I'm not sure how much longer they will really be effective. We have continued to run both pumps 24/7/365.

(More customer reviews)I bought a 20W bulb for ~2000 gallon pond. It has been running a couple of weeks and the water is clearer, but not clear. Perhaps the bulb included was not up to par. My biggest beef is that the enclosed set up diagram was completely wrong. You will need to attach a 3/4" fitting on the light housing to the 1" inside diameter of the 1 1/4" hose from a typical pond pump. You will need two sets of 3/4" to 1" nalgene fittings and two-3/4" and two-1" hose clamps.
