(More customer reviews)Had this for about a month now, and it's performing just fine.This model is good for about three good-sized mugs of tea.The frame protecting the glass body is a tough plastic that should blend well with most tea accessories that have a smooth, low-gloss black finish.The glass is fairly thin but stands up to hand cleaning and clinking against teacups.

I've used two types of loose tea in it so far--a black and a white.The loosely rolled, flexible white tea leaves create a pretty good barrier to water passing through, so you need to take more time pouring over the infuser.The dryer, more tightly rolled black tea leaves infuse quickly but the tips have a tendency to get caught in the holes of the infuser, meaning that they require more time (a scrub brush with bristles helps) to remove when cleaning.This hasn't been a big issue so far, however.

All in all, this is a good teapot for those who like tea in a social context but don't want to get too twee with floral motifs or humorous cows.Would recommend.

Eight Cranes "Perfect Steeper" is a portable tea brewer and 8 ounce tea cup all in one attractive unit. Double-walled chambers with high tempered glass inside and Polycarbonate outside with stainless accents. It provides an easy way to brew high quality loose leaf tea without the mess of a traditional teapot and cups. Simply remove the top (steeping chamber) from the cup and add hot water to the cup. Replace the steeping chamber and secure snugly to the cup. Next remove the lid from the steeping chamber and add loose leaf tea. Replace the lid and slowly invert the steeper so the steeping chamber fills with water, and allow the tea to steep for 1-3 minutes. Slowly return to the steeper to its upright position allowing the water to drain back into the cup. Remove the steeping chamber and drink from the cup. The Polycarbonate outer wall makes this great for portablity, traveling, use at home, office or wherever you travel.

Bodum Assam 34-Ounce Glass Teapot with Stainless-Steel Filter Review

(More customer reviews)Bodum design and quality has always intrigued me in both positive and negative ways.I have in the past easily broken a bodum glass item and yet I am still drawn into purchasing another product.

I've wanted the Bodum Assam 34-ounce cast-iron version for longevity, but the weight of it alone is too much to handle to brew tea.So I opted for this 34-ounce glass version which is very light and, like other Bodum borosilicate glass items, delicate.I have yet to break porcelain items by simple bumps while washing, but with a Bodum I am sure to crack them in time.

However, after much searching for a tea brewing device which affords functionality and simplicity, I fall for a Bodum yet again.

WHY?It is only this brand that features a tea press that stops the brewing process when the desired strength has been reached.

HOW?The loose leaves are placed on the center inside the stainless steel filter.When you want the brewing process to stop, the plunger pushes the leaves down the bottom of the filter away from the liquid and sealed by a silicon rubber ring surrounding the plunger.It's a simple ingenious design carried and modified from their coffee press.

PROS:

- Effective and ingenious plunger to create a tailored brewing strength depending on user, water volume and type of tea leaves
- Despite a thin glass container, surprisingly keeps the liquid hot for a relatively long time.
- Simple design makes an elegant product that matchces any interior as well as hand washing very easy.
- No spill in pouring.I was afraid the small lip may cause spilling while pouring, but I experienced none.No spills travelling down the wall after pouring as well.
- Glass version allows you to view the brewing the process and cater to your needs.

CONS:

- Thin borosilicate glass makes the tea press more fragile than you think.
- Plunger design is simple, but clumsy as well.Plunger stalk has to be aligned completely vertical or pushing straight down will be met with great resistance especially as the silicon rubs against the stainless steel wall.
- Loose leaves are not all contained on the bottom as some may escape thru the silicon seal and shred against the stainless steel filter wall.If this happens, the brewing process is not effectively and completely stopped.The leaves especially escape if you don't align the plunger completely vertically.(You will know what I am talking about when you own it and experience the same).VERDICT:

You have a choice between an extremely heavy cast-iron version or the extremely light glass version.I wish Bodum created a thicker-walled version in glass so I can still view the brewing process and have it less fragile than most Bodum products these days.

For the price, I really can't complain so I find myself purchasing yet another functional and patented Bodum product.Until another company has come up with an ingenious plunger system that is better built, I guess Bodum it will be for now.

(More customer reviews)Pay heed to the one-star review. I was just rinsing the lid off with lukewarm water and it cracked and broke. The lid had sat and cooled to room temperature before I rinsed it. It was never dropped or mishandled in any way. Very strange. Grosche offers a replacement lid and infuser set but Amazon doesn't offer it for sale!!!! It really kinda sucks too because this is a great tea pot otherwise.

Sept 17 2010 UPDATE!!!!

When this originally happened I emailed the company and they said the infuser/lid replacements were out of stock and they would be available in a few weeks on Amazon (which they now are). However, last week I received an email from thier customer service saying that for being so patient they were going to send me a new infuser/lid at NO CHARGE!!! I got it in the mail today. Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Awesome!!! Thanks Grosche! This product is now FIVE STARS all the way!!!

Adagio Teas Ingenuitea Teapot Review

(More customer reviews)My wife bought one of these when we were vacationing in Eureka Springs a year ago, and I thought it was another gizmo to add to the cupboard. Was I wrong. I started using it more and more, mostly for green tea, and thought it would be good to have one for work as well. So I ordered one from Cooking.com and use it all the time. I just put the tea leaves in the container, add hot water, let it sit for 5 minutes, then set it on top of my cup. The valve on the bottom opens up and the tea pours into the cup, with out the leaves (with the green tea I buy from China, the leaves are full leaves, and I can get another 2 cups out of it, so refilling is easy). The nice thing is, I can use it for coffee as well as black tea. The coffee, especially if you grind your own, tastes so much better. To clean, I just invert in a trash can, and rinse out what's left.
