(More customer reviews)I bought my house, and found that the previous owners had done their own kitchen remodel which left a really strange size cutout for the fridge.It took me weeks to find this one which (as far as I can tell) is the only counter depth and narrow refrigerator.Anyway, it is a good fridge.No complaints.The fridge is cool looking, but the only reason that I can think someone would buy this one is for size.If you aren't restricted by size, I would look at a wider fridge.

Good things to know... There is an inline water filter (works good, easy to change), ice maker doesn't take up too much room, the fridge is counter depth (they don't advertise it as such but you can tell by the dimensions and the back is flat).The inside is small but the fridge doesn't look freakishly small.Oh, the ice maker is temperamental; it doesn't bother me but if you love ice this could be a problem.

Almost no one carries these; if you need to "see" it I found a Samsungat the big box retailers that is about the same size.If more than two people live in your house, or you like to buy big soda bottles, etc., maybe take a peek at something with similar dimensions before you buy.

(More customer reviews)The fridge is nice over all lots of shelves to adjust etc.After about 8 months in I started to hear a knocking noise sometimes late at night coming from the fridge.Diagnosed the ice maker in the top left gets jammed up and tried to keep making ice it will not shut off so the gears that turn the ice into the bin just grind away.This is going on for about 5 months now and sometimes its once a week and lately its every day sometimes twice a day.I am in contact with GE to fix but other reviews many people were told it was normal and there was no fix.Just a fair warning if you are going to drop over $2k on a fridge I would make sure they have this issue fixed.If you look around on the Net its a very common problem with this fridge with a lot of very frustrated users and customer service techs trying to tell me its normal for my fridge to sound like someone is knocking on the door for 1 hour straight at all hours of the day and night which is unacceptable.

(More customer reviews)I upgraded from the standard freezer on top and no water dispenser or ice maker and this review is coming from that perspective.

We bought this fridge because of the dimensions that fit our space.We couldn't get the standard 35 3/4 in width fridge.We looked at LG and the thing I like about this fridge is the internal water dispenser.It means that you do not need to lose any interior space.I'm glad I didn't get the LG because the loss of door space would have been a problem.The ice maker is in the freezer (no crushed ice) and works fast.It makes 100 cubes a day.

The interior space seems to be the same actual space as the old fridge but there are many configuration options making better use of the space, possibly.Not sure if it really makes a difference.

The thing I like the most is the fact that I do not need to bend down to see what's in the fridge.

A few other things that I'd like to mention because I have seen them in other reviews:
Noise: More than a fridge without an ice maker not really noticeable.
Energy efficiency: Seems OK.
Stainless steel: Get the stainless steel spray cleaner (not the wipes).Does a great job keeping the prints off.
Ice maker: Cranks out the ice.Once I think the there-is-enough-ice sensor didn't detect that the ice was full.You can turn off the ice maker so no biggie.
Water dispenser: It has an easy to change filter accessible inside the fridge.Water tastes excellent.The first gallon or so had a plastic taste (I also used a plastic water line) but it went away.I hear this is common.
Freezer drawers: There are three.It seems ok.Very different from the old top freezer.I like it but it makes you pack more efficiently so you can slide the drawers.This tends to force you to pay attention to what you have in the freezer rather than just tightly packing it in like in the old days.

Overall I am very happy with the fridge and would recommend it to anyone.I realized that after I bought the fridge that there was a model with an external water dispenser that doesn't take any space away from the interior (ice maker is still in the freezer). Had this been available when I bought it, I may have opted for it.Still I have no regrets.

GE offers about 4 different filters in this format.Each has different construction and purpose.
FXUSC (Polyspun)Reduces sand, soil, silt, sediment and rust
FXWPC (Pleated) Not Available?
FXWSC (String Wound) Not Available?
FXWTC (Carbon Paper Sediment)Reduces chlorine, sand, soil, silt, sediment and rust

Also note the descriptions were ambiguous, was this a 2 Pack?Fortunately they have clarified the description.

Update:The cartridge began to plug after less than two months.It is being used for a cistern.It is likely that this will have to be replaced monthly.Much more frequent than I expected.

Update 2:I am now on about an 8 week replacement cycle, which represents about 4 to 6 weeks of actual usage based on home occupancy.

GE FXHTC SmartWater Whole House Filter Replacement Cartridge Review

(More customer reviews)I upgraded my earlier whole house filter to this larger filter/element. My house is piped with a separate water system serving my kitchen area only, and I wanted an element that would easily last a year between replacements, which this does. It is a quality element that has low pressure drop and removes chlorine taste and not just sediment, which is what I wanted. Sediment only filters can be purchased for a lot less than this type filter element. On my first replacement I found that the O-ring that seals the element housing to the pipe manifold had swollen and was far too large in circumference to be re-used. It would not fit back in the groove in order to tighten the housing back to the manifold. Fortunately I had plumbed my new filter with by-pass valves that allow water to continue flowing downstream while replacing the element. So I was able to continue supplying water to my kitchen until I found the replacement O-ring. To my surprise, the big box store that sells the filter does NOT stock the replacement O-rings. I had to go online to find a source and order [I ordered 3 so I would have one on hand while ordering future replacements]. Needless to say, this replacement of the element took several days to conclude. One other caution: do not open the plastic sealed element until you are ready to install it. The cartridge element can absorb odors and fumes from its surroundings and transfer this taste to your water. ALWAYS get a new O-ring when you get ready to replace this element.

GE FXHSC Sediment Water Filter Review

(More customer reviews)The FXHSC is a great filter, with a very low pressure drop compared to the FXHTC filter. Our system filters lake water (Lake Champlain) & uses the FXHSC filter in combination with 2 other filters & a UV light. It picks up a fair amount of sediment but the water pressure stays fairly constant over the life of the filter, which is great. No complaints & the price is right.
