(More customer reviews)I purchased this product for my son who needed water testing equipment for his science project.Unfortunately, several of the test strips did not work and I was glad that I had ordered more tests than he required.As well, interpretation of the results requires visual observation to match the color of the strips to a chart.We called the help line number shown in the package for assistance with these two issues and did not get a call back.With shipping and duty to Canada adding another $100 to the cost of the 20 water tests we ordered, I told him that he'd better design a different type of project next year.

pH, total alkalinity, total chlorine, total hardness, iron, copper, nitrates, and nitrites. Includes 2 of each test, and bonus tests for hydrogen sulfide and iron bacteria. With the exception of the hydrogen sulfide and iron bacteria, many kits offered this same list of tests. The reason I bought this specific kit was that it did advertise the hydrogen sulfide and iron bacteris "bonus tests", and I needed to know levels of those specifically in determining the type of filters and/or oxidation system to purchase. Well, much to my disappointment, the two "bonus tests" were simply instructions to smell your water, and look in your toilet tank. This didn't help me quantify the levels of contaminants, and I now need to go spend more money on tests to determine those levels.

First, I need to point out the not-so-obvious fact that this is the stainless steel version of the "Water Distiller, Countertop, White Enamel" product sold by MegaHome/NutriTeam.

To make a long story short, I got this product last night and this morning I woke up to perfectly tasting distilled water.

For the long story...I read all the reviews for the white color version and decided this was worth a try. I placed my order by noon Friday and received the distiller just last night (Tuesday). I was anxious to test this distiller for myself because it might save me quite a bit of money if I could stop buying bottled water. The only negative reviews I'd read seemed to focus on the plastic or metallic flavor of the distilled water. The manufacturer suggests it can happen when new bottles smell like plastic. As soon as I opened the box, I searched for the plastic bottle to smell it. There was no distinct plastic smell that I could detect. One of the reviewers pointed out that your geographical location affects the mineral content in the water and thus can strongly affect its flavor. Living north of Philadelphia, water has a fairly neutral flavor and there's no high mineral content that I know about. Still, I filled the bottle with water filtered through a regular Brita filter I have connected to my faucet. Filling the bottle to the very top is exactly the amount of water required to fill the distiller container right to the fill line. Followed the simple instructions and started the distiller. It wasn't as noisy as I expected, however it's loud enough that you might not want to run it during a dinner party. (Makes good white noise if you need it.) It's supposed to take 4-6 hrs to distil one gallon of water. Warm water may shorten the process. Since I ran it overnight, with cold water, I have no idea of how long it took. That will be an experiment for the weekend. Come morning, the distiller was done and the water was surprisingly fresh and good tasting.

For those concerned about whether distilled water draws minerals from your body, therefore raising acidity levels, read about the benefits of adding pH Drops before drinking. Cheers!

I use this distiller almost daily and I'm still very happy with my purchase and very glad I got it. Water tastes perfect, whether I pre-filtered it or not. I was surprised another reviewer had problems with leaks, since I've none whatsoever. The unit makes a very useful white noise, which is better for reading than for conversation though it doesn't bother me (I usually run the unit at night). I have not noticed much difference in distilling time, whether I use hot or cold water. I do get a lot of mineral deposits left over. However, I can remove them easily with a sponge or with the solvent that was provided.

(More customer reviews)I drink about a gallon of NYC tap water per day.I'm very water savvy as I keep water sensitive fish and plants.I found this test kit to be a good all in one solution.This is by no means an accurate test to give exact measurements - think of it more as a pass/fail test kit. so if something fails, you may need to test it further with a more accurate test specific kit, or at least know to buy a filter for that issue, but for most people the wider milestones of this kit should be fine.I found the Lead and Pesticide kit instructions to be confusing, but after rereading it a few more times I figured it out.it's good to have an 8oz glass handy to carry out most of these tests accurately.in the end, this kit paid for itself, as I now see my only water concern remain with the city added chlorine, chloride and chloramines(not tested here).this means I can now focus on only those media feature issues when choosing a water filtration system.I was impressed this kit has "good till use date" stamped on every one of the 15 different tests - you rarely see that.This is a good value since sending your water sample out to be more accurately tested by a Lab can be a $100-$300 expense.

(More customer reviews)I purchased a Crystal Quest single counter top filter direct from the company. It arrived promptly but the diverter valve was defective. I called and they said they would send me a new valve. The second one didn't work right. Leaked all over the place. Not only that I was charged for the replacement valve on my credit card, without authorizing it. At that point I decided I didn't want anything more to do with the company so I called them and told them I wanted to return the unit. They refunded my money, but they refused to pay the shipping $13.00 Why I should pay shipping for a defective item I really don't get. In addition, upon further research I found that water containing fluoride has to stayin contact with the filter media much longer than it does in this unit in order to do a really good job eliminating the fluoride. The three stage filter product may be better, but the best solution I could find was actuallya combination of a reverse osmosis and carbon block filter system. Much more expensive of course.
