Being extremely dry in the dessert, this has the ability to maintain a very very precise level of moisture in your immediate surrounding.I'm very impressed. Just make sure the units has an sufficient fill of water to draw on and you're set. The cooling function is great and so is the heating. Great price and fast shipping.

(More customer reviews)I got it hoping it would keep my apartment cool-ER. I expected it to keep it comfortable, not cold. I also had a bit of a problem with size. The only window that opens in my house is a vertical sliding window, which Air Conditioners I can afford, aren't made for.
Once I received it, I started to assemble and install. Originally I was going to leave the extensions off, since my window was only 18 inches wide, but after I got it and thought about it more, I realized they could still help keep it supported. So I put them on. They are about an inch inside the window, to help it from falling out. Also, I originally hoped to buy some wood and put that above it, but once I saw how sturdy it was with just the extensions, I put cardboard above it and plastic taped around the edges with duct tape. Very red neck, I know. It's sealed with the help of some other bits that came with it to help seal it.
I installed it a little over 12 hours ago and my home is cold. I live in a house above a garage. Just a large living room, average bathroom and small bedroom. It's 621 SQ Feet.(assuming I did the math correctly. 23 x 27 feet.) This is total, but there are 3 separate rooms here. (Also, I have a low ceiling, only 6.5 Feet.) I placed it in my only opening window in the living room and it keeps the bathroom cold which is closest, and my bedroom pretty cold too, which is farthest. A lot larger than advertised for. I didn't care, I needed a little cooler than I had. Before, it was hotter inside than it was outside. I have it on high, but will consider turning it down, which I never thought I would do. I like the cold. It's THAT cold.
For $110, I got an amazing air conditioner that perform WAY better than expected/advertised and it got here exceptionally fast too. It arrived 4 days after I ordered it with standard shipping and handling. I am a very happy costumer.

(More customer reviews)I must respond to the previous reviews before I discuss mine. 1st-The same water does not sit in the base the entire time; it cycles through. 2nd-Any water that sits in any location for too long will grow bacteria. That is why they tell you to rinse the machine on a daily basis (as ALL humidifiers recommend). If you let it sit too long, the water will turn brown, but that is due to mineral deposits in the water. Using filtered or distilled water will minimize this, but so will rinsing out the unit on a daily basis. Regardless of the type of water used, the filter will build up deposits, which means it's doing its job. That is why they recommend cleaning the filter and the entire unit on a weekly basis with vinegar. This is nothing unique to this particular unit; all humidifiers will require regular cleaning. 3rd-To rinse the base all you have to do is remove the filters and the reservoir. Nothing too difficult. This will occur with ALL humidifiers. You cannot expect to have a machine that uses water and expect not to have to clean it. Leave some water in a bucket for a few days and see what happens. Moisture left to be will breed bacteria eventually. If you use this unit on a daily basis, rinse and clean it regularly. If you use it occasionally, then make sure it's dry before it sits there for any amount of time. 4th-I have 3 of these units and not one leaks. You probably got a defective one.

MY REVIEW: I purchased 4 other brands of humidifiers before trying and choosing this one. It is the best I have found in a decent price range. I now own 3 in varying sizes for my home. It is very efficient and puts the moisture out very well. This size will run for quite awhile without needing a refill. It is simple to clean; it comes apart easily and the permafilter is nice because you only have to clean it in water and vinegar and not spend $$ on new filters. The fan is louder on high but it is a soothing, constant noise and really much quieter than others I have tried. It works well when sleeping because it is like white noise. Low and medium are pretty quiet and I am able to keep it on medium in my living room even when I'm watching TV or reading. I measure the humidity in my home and these Hunter's really work quite quickly and efficiently. I highly recommend this unit!
