(More customer reviews)I previously owned the older (non-recalled) Senseo model and loved it; I used it daily for over two years. I recently purchased the deluxe, improved, model and the coffee tastes and smells like plastic. I've gone through an entire package of pods to see if the taste disappears; it has not. I don't know if the plasticy flavor and aroma is due to the deluxe model or the 'improvements' made in the overall design; however, I'm very dissatisfied with the system and will probably return it.

Uniquely designed, this coffeemaker brews a single serving of fresh gourmet coffee at the touch of a button, in under a minute. Because the appliance uses pre-measured coffee pods, the system is hassle-free, easy to clean, and guarantees a fresh, flavorful brew each time. The machine's mild 1.2-bar pressure system and special spray head produce an optimally balanced coffee-filtering process, while its patented "frothing chamber" ensures a frothy coffee layer. Simply fill the removable 32-ounce water reservoir with water, insert a pod, and lock the lid into place. The coffeemaker allows for selecting from multiple serving sizes using its interactive LCD display. Choose from a 3-ounce, 4-ounce, or 5-ounce cup, or a 6-ounce, 8-ounce or 10-ounce mug. Depending on the cup size selected and the number of pods used, it's easy to create a stronger or milder cup of coffee. Other highlights include an adjustable spout that can be raised and lowered to accommodate different size mugs, water-level indicator lights, dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup, and a free tea-pod holder. Shaped like a curved cylinder with a round base, the coffeemaker measures approximately 13-1/2 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches.

The Senseo's mild pressure system heats water to 205 degrees Fahrenheit in a boiler consistently every time. Via the mild pressure system, the heated water is forced through the machine and is evenly distributed over the pre-measured coffee pod(s.) Exiting through a pinhole in the pod tray, the newly brewed Senseo coffee is projected into the base of the patented "frothing chamber" where it is lightly aerated to produce the frothy coffee layer. The machine brews at 1.2 bars. Espresso machines typically brew at 9 bars or higher and drip brewers do not use pressure. The machine then distributes either individual or double servings of gourmet Senseo coffee simultaneously--the whole process taking on average only 45 seconds. Easy to Use, Flavorful Results

Senseo SL7810/65 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I received the Senseo coffee maker as a birthday gift 2 years ago and use it almost daily. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and hate to waste a full pot of coffee if all I want is one or two cups. Making coffee with a Melitta one-cup filter is just too much work compared to the simplicity of the Senseo coffee maker.

The Senseo coffee maker has a reservoir that is easy to fill, and the pods are very convenient to just drop into the pod holder. Two tips I picked up from a single-serve review web site:

1: Pre-moisten the coffee pod so that the edges seal better to the holder, and

2: Preheat your milk so that the milk doesn't cool the coffee when it pours into your cup. I preheat my milk for 30 seconds in the microwave, easy to do while the water is warming up.

I like being able to make a quick double for my travel mug when I'm running late--much faster than driving to Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks and not knowing how long the line will be.

I love to show off my machine for company. I can accommodate everyone, whether they want regular or decaf, mild or strong, etc.

My only wish is that there could be more varieties to choose from. Plus a little hot chocolate would be nice--especially with the foam on top that the machine makes with every cup. K-cups seem to own the market on variety.

Yes, my machine was one of the ones that was recalled. While I had no problem with the old machine, Philips made it very simple by shipping the new machine by FedEx and requesting that the old one be shipped back at their expense in the same packaging. And I was surprised with a pretty white one which replaced the old black one. The white one goes better in my kitchen, a silly thing to obsess about, but I like it.

All in all, the Senseo is quick, easy, fun, and convenient. It's also a lot cheaper than buying on the road.

(More customer reviews)I bought my Senseo machine over 2 years ago (when they first came out) as an alternative to splurging on a much pricier machine after my mediocre Krups espresso maker died.While I loved the Senseo concept, I was disapointed with the coffee, even when I used the pods I bought from supposedly Gourmet suppliers, and considered spending the bucks on a true pump espresso machine.THEN I FOUND THE ECOPADS!! While I was a bit skeptical, (at that time they were only available from some obscure website--I think in the Netherlands) I took a chance and paid $13 + shipping for 2 pads.I loved them.So I bought two more for when the first two wore out, but the first pair are still going strong after two years of almost daily use!

TIPS FOR SIMPLE FLAWLESS PEFORMANCE:(1) Use a burr grinder to grind your coffee (whether at home or the store). I already had a "burr" coffee grinder when I got these.Unlike the grinders with spinning blades, burr grinders actually grind the coffee, resulting in a consistent size of grind (unlike the blade models which produce a combination of powder and granules).Mine allows you to adjust that grind.The finest is espresso, the most coarse is for a French Press.I have mine set about halfway between Espresso (finest) and drip (medium) and I get a rich cup of coffee every time. (2) Use good coffee--i.e., coffee you like!I use Pete's Major Dickason's Blend. (3) You do do not need to wet the pads, or to have them dry, either.While they are a tad easier to fill dry, they are simple to fill when wet (i.e. just rinsed out), too.And, if you happen to overfill them, I just mash the top down (which seems to push the coffee out of the way) and brush away any excess grinds (if pad is dry) or rinse the closed pad quickly under the faucet (if pad is wet).In either case, you must insure not to have stray coffee on the outside of the pad or it can block the little hole in the Senseo "pod holder" thereby locking the machine up (you won't be able to open the handle easily and don't try--unless you want a hot grounds explosion--just let it sit for 10+ minutes to lose pressure, then open).(4) If you like your coffee strong, push the single cup button.If you prefer it weaker, the two cup button.I like strong coffee and use two pads to make one cup every morning.(5) I never use soap on them, after my Italian friend's coffee aficianado father convinced me that soap should never touch the part of the maker that accepts coffee--only rinse with water.

I wrote lengthy dissertation as I promised myself I would someday put up a good review of this excellent product and now that I am ordering my sister a Senseo and these pads for her birthday, I am making good on that promise!!!Whew!
