Since you will also have to buy filter replacement cartridges from Crystal Quest for the life of the product, consider my review before buying.

Given the choice, I would not buy a Crystal Quest product again. This is due to the fact their Customer Service is terrible! (So is their Shipping Dep't and Quality control in my case - kind of scary!) I bought a similar product from them and it was missing parts. I called them and what followed is my worst customer service experience ever. They continuously reneged on promises made to me (several times), giving excuses when I called in (and I had to follow up myself EVERY time) such as "I asked so and so to call you" or "I was overruled by another dep't".

I am not alone - read other reviews for Crystal Quest products.

UPDATE: I ordered a water testing kit online to test the floride, chlorine, etc content of the undersink water filtering kit and cartridge I had received. Multiple tests (even at super low flow rates) revealed it DID NOT FILTER CHLORINE! (It left .25-.50 ppm of chlorine - the same as our tap water results.) Tests on my Brita filter DID filter all chlorine. So, I called customer service to explain and they kindly mailed me another filter - same result! I have sent back everything for a refund, since it does not work as intended. Who monitors these water filtering companies? I will be ordering now from a (hopefully) real water filtering company. I hope I have saved someone else the trouble of having to installing this product only to have to return it.

Drinkwell Big-Dog Pet Fountain Review

Drinkwell Big-Dog Pet Fountain
Average Reviews:

I have been using the fountain for a few weeks now.
It holds 2.5 gallons of water, I use bottled water to fill it because that's what we drink, so I'm not worried about the filter replacement. In fact.. I don't think the filter is all that useful or purposeful. (A regular charcoal filter that the water flows around) honestly.. I don't think I'll every buy a replacement.. using bottled water as I said I feel it's not really necessary!

Once a week I clean it out.. I did not buy the cleaning kit, again doesn't seem necessary.I use the hose sprayer on my small kitchen sink to turn it upside down in and spray every crack & crevice with our hottest tap water setting for a few minutes.Works great, no scrubbing necessary.

The flow rate adjustment is great too.. fast flow or slow.. .the slow setting makes the least water trickling sound, we don't even hear it, and the fast is like any soothing home water fountain.

2.5 gallons lasts our pack of 2 medium 1 large dogs, and 2 housecats about 1 week.. I may add a little to the bowl before the week is over now that its summer but not much.I let it run down a bit low and then clean it.

I would recommend buying it, and may buy another for our covered outside area as well.

Instapark 5 Head Solar Pump Garden Fountain Pond Water Feature Review

Instapark 5 Head Solar Pump Garden Fountain Pond Water Feature

We use this pump to fill a large vase that then overflows with water and trickles down onto rocks below. Although our first pump did not work properly (a problem with the solar panel), a replacement was quickly shipped out to us. The replacement works great.

The force of water is not dramatic, so if you're looking for something large and awe-inspiring, this is not the pump you want. However, if you just need something simple, this is your best bet. Note that this is solar and direct sunlight runs it--simply having it in a lit area or outside on a cloudy day will not produce power to the pump. That said, having the solar panel directly facing the sun produces the most power... as the sun moves across the sky, the pump will continue to work, but at a visibly reduced level... to maintain a 28" height, you will likely need to adjust the solar panel throughout the day.

Water Wise Distiller Model 8800 Review

Water Wise Distiller Model 8800
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this distiller for a couple of years now and make 2-3 gallons of water PER DAY for my family. It is EXCELLENT.(Make sure and read my tip below if you do buy one).

To comment on the previous reviewer's statement that there's no point in distilling water and then keeping it in a plastic container -- the water doesn't stay in the container for any significant length of time to contaminate it.If there is a concern, the water can be easily poured into a glass jug and stored that way. With water this pure, I've found we drink more than ever and feel great about the health advantages and cost savings. The pitcher holds a gallon and that amount is easily used by most people within a day, given the amount we drink and cook with (i.e. water added in cooking to make oatmeal, rice, etc.).

The main reason we purchased this unit to begin with was that we moved into a home that has a water softener unit which automatically deposits salt and chemicals into the main water system.I watered houseplants with that water and within a week the plants died!!We simply didn't want to drink that water, but we like our water softener for other reasons (no hard water deposits) and didn't want to remove it.

The cost to produce the water in this distiller has not made any significant difference in our electricity bill, and we've found it to be cheaper and much more convenient than purchasing bottled water (who even knows what impurities bottled water contains!).

One TIP that I would recommend which allows the water to distill a lot faster:FILL THE KETTLE WITH THE HOTTEST POSSIBLE TAP WATER INSTEAD OF COLD WATER.It will cut down on the time it takes to make a gallon, as the unit won't have to work as long to bring the kettle to the boiling temperature required. This unit is easy to us -just fill the kettle with hot water and press a button.

I've found the Waterwise company to be very helpful with my questions, etc. over the phone.I would highly recommend this product.I can't imagine a glass of any other kind of water now!

BW1000A Flojet Bottled Water Dispensing System Review

BW1000A Flojet Bottled Water Dispensing System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is a great way to connect a refrigerator to a bottled water system.A few suggestions if you are considering the purchase of this unit or a similar solution where you need to connect bottled water to your fridge:

1. ITT (Flojet) also makes a "dual" bottled water system which allows you to connect two five gallon water bottles at the same time. They call this the "Dual Inlet Bottled Water Dispensing System" and the model number is BW1020A.If you intend to run both the refrigerator's icemaker and water dispenser and you use a lot of water, consider the dual system.I bought the dual inlet model instead and I'm glad I did, we go through a lot of bottled water since we can't really drink the well water here...

2. In our house, the kitchen shares a wall with the garage, and we were able to easily drill a hole and run the 1/4" line through the wall - this keeps the Flojet pump in a different room and makes changing the bottled water easier since we store it in the garage anyway. If you have the opportunity to setup your system this way, I highly recommend it.Having the pump in a different room is important because the pump is loud when running, and since the icemaker will kick in and out at various times it is nice to have the pump located elsewhere.I don't think I would be happy with this solution if the pump had to be inside the kitchen since the noise would be a real problem.

3. Since virtually every refrigerator with a water connection uses the 1/4" tubing line, and since this unit includes 20' of 1/4" tubing, you don't really need anything to connect this to a refrigerator except for a 1/4" tubing union, which is not included. You could get one at your local hardware store, but Amazon has them and they are Prime eligible, here is the link: Celcon Acetal Copolymer "Push to Connect" Tubing Connector - Union Connector , 1/4".These are the easiest possible connectors to use, just push the tubing in on both sides and you're done. Here is another example of a 1/4" union:JACO Bulkhead Union - 1/4 inch Tube O.D. Female x 1/4 inch Tube O.D. Female just in case that one is gone...

InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration System Review

InSinkErator SST-FLTR 2/3-Gallon Stainless Tank and Filtration System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Insinkerator product suffers from a couple of inexcusable design flaws.Like many here I found a puddle of water under my unit about two years after installing it.Checked into buying a new unit, but at $200 I wasn't going to give in easily. After reading other folks' experience with the unit I opened mine up and found the obvious source of the leak. There is a 1/4" plastic vent hose than helps handle the return hot water after you release the faucet handle.Since it'sa non-pressurized unit, all water in the line up to faucet gets returned to the tank after you release the faucet handle. This hose, combined with a plastic overflow tank handles the water return. The root cause of the leaking problem is that Insinkerator uses standard clear vinyl plastic tubing for this one part -- the same kind you would use for supplying air in a home aquarium. At the hardware store they warn you not to use it even for ice maker supply lines, but some genius at Insinkerator specified it for use in an enclosed water heater. It's speced at a max temp of 175F, but in the hot water heater it sits at near 200F, 24/7/365, and it can't handle it.Mine had turned a dark brown to nearly black color and had completely failedwhere the hose was routed right along the stainless steel tank.Every time we used the heater the return water ended up in our cabinet. For lack of another 25 cents worth of the correct material, customers everywhere are replacing their tanks prematurely. And the fix is so simple there's no excuse for Insinkerator not doing it.

HOW TO REPAIR:Basically you have to replace the hose with the right kind, and fortunately it's pretty easy.I recommend silicone tubing (rated to 500F), and you'll need some with 1/8" inside diameter.I bought some from an Amazon seller, 1/8" ID and 3/8" OD with thick 1/8" walls.Search on Amazon and you'll find what I'm talking about.(Edit: The original tubing is 3/16" ID but I went with 1/8 for a good snug fit.3/16" ID tubing will also work quite well, and is what I would recommend at this point if you can find it.)Unfortunately it's only sold in 10' lengths, and you need less than a foot.I have extra left over if anyone's interested (email me at pbj1959 at gmail dot com).If you can find it locally, all the better. For good measure get a couple of small plastic zip ties (cable ties) or the proper sized spring clamp to secure the new tubing.

1) Unplug, drain, and remove the tank. After unplugging the power cord, run water thru the unit till cold water flows out the faucet. Then place a large bowl (1-gallon capacity minimum) under the tank, unscrew the drain screw, and let the tank drain into the bowl.If you can easily shut off the water supply do it now, but it is not necessary as long as no one uses the faucet when you are working on the tank. While draining, remove the three tubes from the top of the tank. One has a spring loaded clip you need to depress to remove the tube and the other two are silicone and plastic tubes that just pull off (might vary a bit based on the age of your unit).Loosen the mounting screws, and when the tank has drained, remove it from your cabinet and find a water resistant place to work on it.

2) Disassemble the tank.Really easy -- there is a small screw on the top that holds the two sides of the plastic shell together ... remove it.The two sides of the shell pull apart fairly easily but you might need to muscle it a bit.Once you get them apart, remove them from the unit and place aside. Then remove the temperature dial and put it aside. At this point you will have the guts of the unit with the steel tank encased in a dense styrofoam shell.Take a minute to examine the way it's put together (pictures wouldn't hurt either). You'll most probably easily pick out the problem part -- it will probably be very dark and brittle, and one end will be attached to the side of the water inlet port.Cut the hose somewhere before the metal (maybe plastic on yours) water inlet port it attaches to, and you will then be able to remove the upper styrofoam shell. After that you will see where the other end of the defective hose goes -- the bottom of the plastic overflow tank. You will need to cut the old zip ties (or maybe spring clamps) at each end of the hose to fully remove the old hose.See what a piece of crap it is?Why they would use that kind of plastic is beyond me.

3) Inspect and dry the full unit. You may want at this point to remove the other styro shell piece and completely dry everything. At this point I discovered that the leaking water has badly rusted several of the screws holding the two pieces of the stainless tank together.Really Insinkerator??A stainless tank but regular steel screws??That's the second design flaw I mentioned earlier.I wasn't sure whether or not the rust has led to any leak in the tank itself, so I disassembled the stainless tank (fun to do with rusted screws I'll tell you).Mine took a T-10 Torx driver for the screws, and I eventually got them all out.A trip to the hardware store got me some #6 x 3/4" stainless machine screws and lock nuts.If you see anything else besides the hose that could be a problem, you'll need to deal with it for a complete repair.

4)Reassemble the unit, installing the new hose as you go.Put the tank back in the bottom styro shell.Attach one end of the silicone hose to the plastic overflow tank and secure with a zip tie cutting off the excess tie.Put the plastic tank back in the upper styro shell and slide the two back onto the top of the stainless tank. The plastic tank lines up with the silicone hose to the front of the unit. You'll route the hose along the tank flange to the right of the unit just like the old hose was.Once the shell is as far down as it goes, route the hose along the side of the styro shell following the groove for the old hose (not a perfect fit, but that's OK) and then over the top to the water inlet port.Hold it in place and see where you need to cut the silicone hose to fit the port without excess slack in the hose. Then cut the hose, attach it to the port and secure with a zip tie.Replace the thin upper piece of styro over the top of it all and reassemble it all into the plastic shell.Take your time and work the two halves together, making sure to get the power cord grommet correctly into the cutout in the shell.Get the bottom together first then work your way up.Pay attention to the new hose, keeping it tucked in behind the side of the front half of the shell (don't let it end up stuffed behind the back half of the shell. When done properly the shell will snap together nicely, and you may note a slight bulge where the new hose is if you used the thicker silicone tubing like me -- that's OK.Put the small screw back into the top the shell, and reinsert the drain screw.

5) Reinstall and test tank.Just reverse the removal steps.Open the faucet until water flows before plugging the tank in.Then use the faucet normally, checking regularly for any leaks.Mine has been leak free for two weeks, and should last for years now.

That's it, and it's probably easier than it sounds. For a grand total of less than $25 (with nine feet of hose left over) I have a fully functional tank again. The rest of the unit is very well made, so I expect it to last years.Good luck with your home repair efforts. It's only a matter of time before it will be necessary with this product.

UPDATE 9/13/2010:A couple months now and still no leaks.I've been corresponding with another unhappy owner who ended up getting a replacement from Insinkerator. He sent me pics (thanks Jay!) that show they have changed the design of this particular tube that has been causing so many problems. The new design uses a different type of plastic for the tubing and avoids routing it along the steel hot water tank. They also seemed to have added a different type of gasket between the two tank halves. From what I saw, new units with this design won't suffer the same problem I described above, but how to tell whether any one new unit purchased at retail will have this fix incorporated??

I use this for final biodiesel filtering.
Does what it's meant to do. But isn't fine enough on its own.
I use in conjunction with a 5 micron filter.
Will not stop water which in solution but stops droplets in the diesel.
Does what it's meant to do. Doesn't leak and seems reasonably well made.

Product Description:
PF-2 reduction elements are designed for use in conjunction with Black Berkey? waterpurification elements to adsorb the following unwanted elements found in drinking water.? Fluoride? Arsenic V and pre oxidized Arsenic III? Other residual heavy metal ionsTECHNICAL INFORMATION:FLUORIDE: Testing for fluoride was based on 20-30ppm of the ion in the influent aqueous solution at a flow rate of nomore than 3 gpm per cubic foot of media. Results of < 1ppm of the fluoride ion in the effluent were typical for the media(>95% reduction). Under optimum conditions, effluent concentrations of less than 50 ppb were readily achieved(>99.75% reduction).ARSENIC: This product uniquely targets the entire family of arsenic oxide anions as well as the arsenic cations.REPLACEMENT:Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2 elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons (The BerkeyLightTM system is about 2.75 gallons therefore the PF-2 filters should be replaced after 363 refills. If the system is refilledabout one time per day, the PF-2's should be replaced annually, if the system is refilled about twice per day, the PF-2'sshould be replaced about every six months).

Avanti Hot and Cold Water Dispenser - White Review

Avanti Hot and Cold Water Dispenser - White

I purchased this water dispenser for my office after the old one quit working. Having read quite a few reviews, I felt comfortable that I was getting a good product.

Once set up and filled with water, we discovered that the water it dispensed had a horrible chemical taste and smell. I immediately called Avanti, who told me they do not warranty the taste of the water dispensed, only the unit itself, and was given a lengthy process to try to flush the unit out and get rid of the bad taste. It involved dumping in bleach and much rinsing - and took quite a while. At the end, the water still tasted just as bad. Since Avanti customer service had these rinsing directions at hand to give when I called, I must assume they are aware of the problem with the dispensers and probably field these type of complaints frequently.

Since we were unable to return the unit, I continued flushing water through it hoping to lessen the bad taste. Finally I poured in white vinegar and some water and let it sit all day, and then drained it out and rinsed several times. Success - water finally tastes good to drink. The unit seems to be working properly now, but I am disappointed that a product purchased brand new should have required that much work in order to use it for its intended purpose.

Washing Machine Water Filter System 85470 Review

Washing Machine Water Filter System 85470
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm on a well and we have a lot of sediment in our water. So much sediment that we have to remove the factory installed screen on our clothes washer twice each time we wash a load of clothes. This is essentially a larger screen (trap), but more accessible and with a fibrous material included (filter). It might be a bit too restrictive for my needs.I like the product, and it's built well (solid and simple, PVC, easily disassembled/reassembled), but I'm not convinced it's any better than a pressure washer inline filter (green cap), and those have a more accessible filter if, like me, you need to remove it often.

I'll update as I use it if I'm able to edit this review.

Product Description:
A problem area on all washing machines is the need to clean the inlet valve screen of sediment buildup. As this screen gets contaminated, the water flow slows, adding extended time to the wash cycle and distorting the water temperature. In extreme cases, the sediment gets trapped between the solenoid, allowing the water to continue to flow, creating flooding. The manufacturer survey indicates this screen should be cleaned every 3-12 months for homeowners on well water. This screen is located behind the machine at the base of the water line and requires the machine to be pulled out, hoses disconnected, the screen carefully removed and cleaned. After extensive research to evaluate the problem of clogged inlet valve screens, Inline Water Filters has taken the initiative to design a Washing Machine Sediment Filter for the sole intent of removing solid sediment prior to reaching the screen destination. With the average household washing 10 loads of laundry weekly, using 15,000 gallons of water yearly, this problem is especially troublesome for the 17,000,000 homeowners on well water. Our tests indicate that the use of a whole house filter lessens the problems, however doesn't prevent it as the smaller particles get through and coat the screen over time. The item on this page is the 85470 Washing Machine Inline Water Filter System. Replace the washing machine water filter with the washing machine replacement filter 84470. For new wells, replace the washing machine filter cartridge every 2-3 months. For existing wells without a whole house water filter, replace the washing machine filter cartridge every 3-6 months.
